OSB-plate: dimensions and properties will be of interest to all

There is nothing surprising in the fact that in the areas of science, technology or production that have long been habitual for us, innovations are emerging. Here is the simplest example - the processing of wood by humans has been carried out for more than one millennium, it would seem, what else can one come up with in this area. Nevertheless, even here some new materials in which wood is used are not uncommon. An example of one of these inventions is an OSB-plate, the dimensions of which are stable, and the product itself - uniform composition and environmental safety. So what is this mysterious material that is hidden behind this abbreviation? Oriented Strand Board is translated as "oriented particle board" or abbreviated OSB. Its analogue can be, to some extent, considered for all of us a long ago customary chipboard. But the similarity here is very weak, except that the raw material, which is the chip. If we want to see what the OSB-plate represents, the sizes and prices of which are mainly determined by the production conditions, then we must pay attention to the manufacturing technology.

It implies at least two features - the use of special chips and its orientation in the production process. Here, at once it is necessary to clarify that the chips are used specially prepared, up to seven tenths of a millimeter in thickness and up to fourteen centimeters in length. The raw material for it is thin wood. It undergoes special treatment, and after that chips are obtained from it. Thanks to this approach to raw materials, the finished OSB-plate dimensions are quite stable at all stages of production.

Another feature of the manufacturing technology is the orientation of the chips themselves. It fits in three layers - two of them are parallel to the length of the slab, and the middle, located between them, is perpendicular. The chips are dried, impregnated with special compounds (wax, salts of boric acid). As a binder, a synthetic resin is used. It under the influence of pressure and high temperature glues all the layers together, after which the OSB plate is cut into sheets, the dimensions of the pieces can be either standard or according to the customer's request.

There are four types of plates, differing among themselves in certain characteristics. So, OSB-3 is a plate, the dimensions of which are standard, it has high strength and moisture resistance. Although, as already mentioned, on the customer's request, the dimensions can be changed. To date, the mentioned OSB-3 is most in demand on the market due to better properties than the previous brands, and lower price than the subsequent ones.

The use of such an oriented particle board is extremely diverse. It can be used for the production of furniture, for the construction of frame-panel houses as walls, with internal and external finishes, as a formwork element, etc. Even a simple enumeration of possible applications can make a list of many points.

OSB-plate, whose dimensions and technical characteristics are highly stable, is considered one of the promising materials, especially from the point of view of frame-panel construction of houses. Convenience, affordable prices and the ability to use in a variety of industries, construction, as well as in domestic conditions provide increased demand.
