Originality is ... Definition, features and description

The victorious procession of stamping and mass production of goods made the original things more valuable. But in fact, originality is not only a sign of the high cost of some material things. Where did this word come from, what does it mean and how to use it correctly?

The meaning and origin of the word

Many concepts and definitions in the Russian language are of Latin origin. First of all, we are talking about the so-called international concepts, which almost equally sound in different languages. Originalis means "original", literally - a reference, primary, and not a copy from anything. It turns out that originality is a characteristic of some phenomenon or thing, meaning that before this no one did, or at least did it not with such different methods and with such a result.

The concept of originality

Now the original name is everything that in one direction or another is knocked out of the general series. Everyone walks in white shirts, and only someone, for some reason, put on a blue pea-dye? He is a great original. In the colloquial sense, originality is everything that causes the feeling "I have not seen this one yet."

The notion of originality is well traced on a simple example of cinematography. The original voice acting is exactly what the filmmakers did. The viewer has the opportunity to observe not only the visual picture, but also hear the voices of the actors, and this is very important for the correct perception of the picture. If you do not know the original language, you can only rely on the conscientiousness of the team working on dubbing.

Another example is fashion. If the designer creates an outfit, relying solely on his own imagination and taste, then this is the original product. If the dress appears under the influence of inspiration from the work of a more eminent and talented colleague and something remotely resembles his creations, it is unlikely that someone will throw a stone in the couturier. But the replica, made from cheaper materials and replicated by hardworking Chinese, is already a copy, and of rather low quality.

How to improve originality

We have to admit that this is a relatively relative concept. You can be original in your environment, but completely ordinary in a more global sense. If a teenager enters a company where everyone skates, and only he wears roller skates, then in his circle he is clearly knocked out of the template.

Nowadays originality is often a synonym for extravagance, "otherness", and if you want you can leave the circle of people copying each other and become "not like everyone else". Another thing is that this desire and aspiration is replicated to such an extent that jokes already sound on this topic: to be not like everyone else - mainstream, be ordinary, stand out from the crowd of originals!

If we are talking about clothes and accessories, then under the conditions of dictates of fashion and mass tailoring, a person finds himself in a situation where huge, sometimes completely indecent money is required to be paid for the author's thing. Fancy and enterprising wins - fashionables combine unexpected things, put on a skirt over jeans, transform the purchased model models into something new with appliqués, beads, pieces of lace, artistically carved holes and so on. Manual work, now called the fashionable word "handmade," is becoming more and more respected.

Works of art

Music, painting and literature are similarly suited to external influences, as a result, there are many similar works. If at least somewhere there is an opportunity to obtain material profit, then art is translated into the commercial plane, and the originality is forgotten as a completely unnecessary characteristic. There are many secondary works, continuations of history, a franchise is created, on which one can make a huge profit.

In fact, to check the originality of the work of art is not so simple, so if there is such a need, an expert commission is created. In this case, it is worth remembering that art in general is a flexible phenomenon and largely based on the ephemerality of the impression. In the literature all kinds of directions flourish, inspired by a certain source, which can be called an original. At the same time, creating works can not be called a copy. Even the fanfics that refer to the "literature" do not copy the original source, but only rely on the same world or the same characters, although sometimes the original message of the author is at the same time shamelessly misinterpreted.

It's worth acknowledging that copies are not always bad. Thanks to Roman copies of famous Greek sculptures, we can now form an opinion on the art of Hellas, because the originals are either lost, or seriously damaged.

The World Wide Web has a rapid dissemination of information - now you can make a repost of a text, a photo or video can be literally a couple of clicks. It is not surprising that it is somewhat difficult to determine the source material. In textual content, the percentage of originality is determined with the help of special services for finding copies and repeating phrases. As a control segment, a shingle of a certain number of words is taken, which is specified in the program settings. By default, a four-word shingle is used, that is, if these four words that go in succession are found in some other text on the Internet, then the originality of the text being checked falls by a certain percentage.

Working with the originality of content

To enhance the originality of the text, different methods are used. The simplest thing is to replace the words in the disputed shingle with synonyms. This is a primitive method, which can also be calculated by software methods when checking text for rewriting. It is better to rephrase random repeat or expand it by breaking the shingle in other words.

Most often the uniqueness of the text is reduced due to the use of stable expressions, cliches or citations. But if nothing can be done with quotations, then the rest of the verbal turns can in most cases be removed without significant damage to the semantic content of the article. On the contrary, when checking and proofreading an article, it is recommended to ruthlessly delete unnecessary introductory words and phrases, common expressions. In this way, one can achieve 100% technical uniqueness of the text, although this sometimes seriously damages the readability of the article.
