Operation 'Typhoon'

One of the most dramatic events of the Great Patriotic War is the battle for Moscow. Operation Typhoon - the so-called operation to capture Moscow in Hitler's documents. Moscow was supposed to be seized before the onset of frost. Moscow wanted to turn into ruins, it was planned to capture the Soviet government. Operation Typhoon 1941 was to be the end of the war, but Hitler's plans, fortunately, did not come true. The day of the capture of Moscow was appointed on November 7. This date was not chosen by chance - November 7 in the USSR was a state holiday, the day of the Great October Revolution.

Operation Typhoon was built as follows. First, powerful strikes with the use of military equipment should be carried out, which would lead to gaps in the defense of our troops. After that, Hitler's tanks and infantry had to go ahead and surround the main forces of our troops in the Vyazma and Bryansk regions. After these forces were destroyed, German tanks and infantry were to take Moscow into a ring. The 2nd Panzer Group was to surround Moscow from the south, the 3rd and 4th groups from the north. The infantry was to enter from the west.

On September 30, the 2nd Panzer Group under the command of General Guderian launched an offensive in the field of the Bryansk Front. Operation Typhoon began. German troops greatly outnumbered the Soviet both in the number of people and in armaments. On October 2, two other tank groupings launched their offensive. Soviet troops began to retreat to Moscow. Operation "Typhoon" for some time passed successfully - on October, 7 near to Vyazma in an environment the part of the Soviet armies has been taken. On October 13, Rzhev was captured. On October 14 tank groups occupied Kalinin. Surrounded by Vyazma Soviet units pinned around a considerable number of German troops. October 18 fell Mozhaisk. November 18 Operation Typhoon goes to the second stage.

The defense of the capital was commanded by GK Zhukov. Under his leadership, the three fronts were united in one front - the Western. On November 7, the day that was a holiday for Soviet people, a parade of troops was held on Red Square, from which soldiers and officers went directly to the front. The forces from Transbaikalia, Central Asia, and the Far East came to their aid. Formed divisions of the people's militia, which immediately went to the front. Also from the volunteers were formed fighter battalions, which were engaged in catching enemy spies in the city. A huge number of Moscow women and teenagers were engaged in the construction of defensive structures. The Germans managed to advance so much that to Moscow there were 30 kilometers. Stalin in those fateful days decided to stay in Moscow.

On December 4 - 5, the advance of the Germans was stopped. Operation Typhoon failed. On December 5, General Konev's forces launched a counter-offensive, and on December 6 Zhukov's troops crossed the counter-offensive. German troops began to retreat. Skiers and paratroopers were sent to the areas of retreat to the fascist troops. The Fascist army suffered heavy losses. Only people, the German army lost about half a million. The losses of the Soviet troops were also enormous.
Operation Typhoon of the Second World War was a fiasco, and it was of great importance. The plan for a lightning victory was defeated.

For the first time the Hitlerite army was unable to achieve its desired goal. It turned out that the German military machine is not invincible at all. Having seized vast territories, it was now retreating before the onslaught of the Soviet people. As a result, the war dragged on, it was not possible to win before the onset of frost, and now Hitler will have to fight in winter in Russia. The Soviet people showed their courage, the readiness of every soldier to fight to his last gasp for his homeland. His courage became known throughout the world.
