How to tie a long waistcoat with knitting needles from warm yarn

The end of the summer is the most suitable time to study your wardrobe and make up for the lack of warm clothes. The cold season becomes a real gift for lovers to tie thick yarn. Now you can put aside thin cotton, a hook and openwork cloths, because it's time for wool, angora and mohair.

Practicality of warm jackets

Knitted sweaters and pullovers, no doubt, can be considered the most comfortable and warm clothes. However, the long waistcoat is also in the top of the most popular products.

A cape without sleeves is suitable for use in place of a jacket or cardigan, and is also indispensable for women who work in cool rooms. A knitted long vest is often left in the workplace and used as needed. In addition to practical benefits, such a maneuver helps to demonstrate to colleagues their taste and ability to handle knitting needles.

Waistcoat without fastening

Thinking about what kind of waistcoat to tie, it is necessary to determine its purpose and its capabilities. Despite the fact that the work is not very difficult, a long waistcoat made of fine thread can take quite a long time.

Faster than all the others, you can make a product from thick yarn. In this case, you can significantly simplify the task for yourself, if you do not do the buckle. That is, the detail of the transfer will not be divided by the bar, so you do not have to tie off buttonholes, calculate their location and make complex loop cuts.

Preparation for work

First of all, it is worth to choose the yarn. Since the main purpose of the model proposed above is to preserve heat, the material must necessarily contain wool.

The optimal proportion is 50% wool, 50% acrylic or cotton. Then the long waistcoat will not be heavy, but it will be able to keep heat well.

To make the picture look the same way, you need to apply yarn, in which a 100 gram skein contains no more than 250-300 meters. The spokesperson chooses knitting needles on her own, based on her own knitting density. The standard recommendation for such a thread is No. 4,5 or 5. However, if the knitter usually works with a loose cloth, you can use tool No. 3.5.

A pattern will not be required here, since a long waistcoat without sleeves is simply two rectangles with recesses for the neck.

Sample Value

Many publications on the subject of knitting recommend that you perform a control sample before starting work, but rarely argue this step. Its essence lies in the fact that, having tied a small fragment with the chosen thread and according to the found scheme, the skilled worker can see how much the material and ornament is combined, and also obtain information about the density of a particular pattern.

Owning such information, you can correct errors in time (choose a new scheme or buy another yarn), as well as correctly calculate the number of loops for knitting the product.

So, measuring the finished sample, you need to write down how many loops enter into 10 cm of canvas in width and how many rows it occupies 10 cm in height.

For example, these figures are equal to 15 loops and 13 rows. Now we should study the scheme and see how many loops form one rapport. In this case, this number is 18.

How to start a knit vest

To start work on a product with a width of 65 cm, you need to collect 98 loops. Of these, 54 will leave for the formation of three rapports, the remaining 44 should be distributed on the sides (22 on each side). For example, 10 loops should be taken to the bar (including the edge), and the remaining 12 should be done with the front or the reverse side.

You can also plan the location and number of rapports yourself: to enter not three but four or five stripes of the pattern. This technique is good if you want to tie a long, large female waistcoat.

The first few rows (no more than five) are done with garter stitching, then proceed to pattern formation. Here you need to carefully monitor the fact that both slats along the edges of the canvas have the same number of loops.

They are knit with garter stitching, which prevents the folding of the finished fabric.

Following the example above, the knitting pattern for knitting patterns will be as follows:

1 P edge, 9 P garter stitch, 12 P front face (hosiery), 54 P according to the pattern (ornament), 12 P front face, 10 N garter stitch.

Neck

In the manufacture of this product, the most difficult stage can be the formation of a smooth neck. For the formation of bevels, you need to close the loops not immediately, but with observance of a certain order:

  1. Initially, the hinges from the central part of the web are closed or transferred to the auxiliary spoke.
  2. Then two shoulders are knitted separately.
  3. In each facial row, cut one loop from the side of the neck, continuing to form a flat edge from the armhole.
  4. Then the rest of the shoulder is knitted smoothly.

The depth of the throat on the part is 5-7 cm, and on the back - 3 cm. For the bevels, about 3-5 loops are usually allocated.

Assembling the product

The long vest depicted in the photo has no side seams. If desired, this can easily be changed by simply sewing the necessary sections (from below to the armhole). Then sew the shoulder seams. It is best to do this with a knitted suture, since the thread is quite thick.

If you decide to leave the product in this form, you should crochet the cords and attach them symmetrically to the canvases.

Having connected a long waistcoat with knitting needles, it is necessary to type loops round a mouth on circular spokes. To form a high collar, you need to tie at least 18 cm with any elastic band. Given the ornament and the thickness of the yarn, it is best to consider the choice of rubber band 2x2.

Ready-made vest should be washed in warm water and dried in the unfolded form. This is the usual care for knitted things, so it should be washed in the future.
