Openwork motive crochet: scheme, manufacturing and application options

One of the important stages on the way to the heights of knitting art can be called mastering the skills of knitting motives. This is the name of individual fragments made by the crochet and intended for collection in a single canvas. Sometimes the hook motif (the scheme can be developed personally by the master) is used as an independent product. In general, this concerns the manufacture of children's applications, decorative elements, jewelry or accessories.

Types of motifs crocheted

Classification of motifs is carried out taking into account their shape, method of manufacture and appearance. The main varieties include:

  • Square motif;
  • round;
  • triangular;
  • Five- and six-cornered;
  • In the form of a star or flower;
  • Fantasy.

Many garments or elements of interior decor include crocheted crochet motifs. Schemes, materials and tools for work can be applied quite different. Their choice depends on the preferences of the master, as well as the purpose and specificity of the product.

Square Crochet Motion: Schematic and Features

The square is the most popular form for motives. Its distribution is due to the ease of manufacturing and the convenience of joining the parts in the canvas. Also, square fragments are very convenient to place on a pattern. The photo below shows examples of such motives and their schemes.

The exception is those models that provide for a complex cut, because the formation of details of fitted clothes, necks, armholes and hoses of sleeves is almost impossible. Attempts to tie some motives, the shape of which will correspond to the desired silhouette of the pattern, leads to the obtaining of unequal, "trimmed" details. They look very ugly in the finished canvas. The situation can be saved by an improved crochet motif. The outline of this element is half or quarter of the square motif. With the help of such details it is possible to lay out a completely satisfactory neck, armhole or pellet.

The principle of expanding square motifs is very simple: in each of the four corners, additions are consistently performed. The main condition is to observe the parameters of the right angle, that is, each angle is 90 degrees. The pattern is formed on the faces of the square between the corners or along the diagonal lines of addition.

The motif of the round crochet: diagram, photos, description

Distant ancestor of all modern motifs of round shape are napkins and tablecloths. Today round fragments are used for knitting very many garments. The diagram below suggests a variant of round motifs, as well as the ways of their joining into a single canvas.

A feature of any circular motif is that the expansion of the canvas is due to the addition of a number of loops along the entire length of each row. Depending on the height of the rows (usually equal to the height of one column with a crochet), the addition is done at six or twelve points. The higher the row (the greater the number of nakids in the columns), the more loops will be added, and the closer they will be to each other. Quite often, the addition occurs with a uniform increase in each rapport of the fragment (with the addition of air loops in the chain between the columns or an increase in the number of columns).

Fragments of round shape are very convenient to use as a base for hats, supports for cups, potholders, bags, earrings and other knitted products.

Flower shape

Consider flower motifs crocheted, the schemes and scope of which are significantly different. They won general recognition and popularity among knitters for their decorative appearance and a wide variety of variations. Their appearance resembles a flower with characteristic petals and a middle.

There are so many different ways with which you can produce flat or voluminous flower motifs crocheted. Schemes knitters often find a ready-made version or develop independently. The next picture suggests a scheme of large and small flowers. Using piping, including a picot of air loops, they were turned into New Year's snowflakes.

Volumetric floral motifs consist of several rows of petals, not connected in series, as in other types of canvases, but under each other. The joining of such fragments occurs when the last series of loops are stitched together, and the volumetric lobes of the previous rows remain free.

Motives of other forms

The triangular shape of the motifs is indispensable for knitting small items. They are convenient to arrange and spread on a pattern. Self-development of the fragment is not a difficult task. The triangle is easy to calculate on the basis of the scheme of a square motive.

Five and hexagons are used infrequently. They can consist of a round or square motif, the last rows of which form a polygon. The picture below shows a hexagonal hook motif, a diagram and a variant of its connection.

The use of such fragments for making clothes is not very convenient, since you have to carefully calculate the number of necessary motives and their location. In addition, as can be seen on the diagram, the edge of such products will not be even. For its alignment, additional triangular motifs are needed.

The top of mastery among knitters is the ability to knit asymmetric or fantasy patterns. Of these, openwork or continuous canvases are collected in the technique of Irish lace and freform.

Mixing the motifs in the canvas

Often, when combining individual motifs, one can observe the formation of a new pattern. This is due to the fact that most fragments have the correct geometric shape, and the end of one element of the pattern simultaneously serves as the beginning of the other.

There are two options for connecting fragments:

  • In the process of knitting the last row.
  • By sewing ready-made motifs.

The latter method is preferable for many reasons. Basically because it's easier to fix errors. After all, in order to exchange the motives associated with the last row, they will have to be disbanded and bandaged.

An exceptional possibility of making beautiful openwork elements provides crocheting to the skilled craftsmen. Schemes, motifs, descriptions and features of each species listed above will be useful if you want to create a knitted product from fragments. Do not be afraid to learn new techniques, and you will succeed!
