OJSC Gedeon Richter: preparations, history of the company

JSC "Gedeon Richter" refers to the largest East European pharmaceutical manufacturers. The company has mastered the production of 200 types of medicines, the fifth of which is its own unique developments.

Way to success

The first pharmacy "Gedeon Richter" earned in 1901 in Hungarian Budapest. At that time, pharmacists themselves were preparing medicinal drugs. At the pharmacy, a laboratory was equipped, where the release of organotherapeutic drugs produced from extracts of the glands of cattle was organized.

After 6 years, the first plant was started, lecithins, vitamins and other components were set up. Later they mastered the processing of vegetable raw materials: there appeared preparations of digitalis, derivatives of salicylic acid. By the way, the preparation "Kalmopirin", mastered in 1912, is used today. By 1914, "Gedeon Richter" patented 24 drugs, becoming a strategic pharmaceutical company of Austria-Hungary.

Tablet that changed the world

With the onset of the "contraceptive era" in the 1960s, many associate such a phenomenon as a significant change in the social status of women in society. Contraceptive medications allowed 100% to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

It was the outstanding pharmacist from Budapest, Gideon Richter, who stood at the sources of hormonal synthesis and worked on the first contraceptive pill. The production of gynecological drugs was started from the very foundation of the company in 1901 together with the development of the first organotherapeutic preparations. In 1939, the company developed a technology for the isolation of estrone, and the industrial production of crystalline estrone was set up. Established the success of the creation of synthetic testosterone and progesterone.

Gedeon Richter: preparations

In the 1950s, a key compound for hormone synthesis was used to produce sex hormones (progesterone, estrone and testosterone), non-steroidal anabolic agents and oral contraceptives.

Since the early 1960s, Gedeon Richter began using the most advanced production technologies, including sterile fermentation. In the future, thanks to new technologies, it became possible to produce new active substances such as norgestrel, levonorgestrel and their derivatives, which resulted in the creation of a combined hormonal contraceptive, released in 1966. The company also brought hormonal contraception to the USSR for the first time.

Now there are preparations of the fourth generation, which, for example, contain drospirenone as an active ingredient. Being a synthetic hormone, it is similar to the progesterone produced by the body.

The most important in the production of hormonal drugs have control in the production and compliance with all advanced standards. Simply put, it is important to understand exactly how and in what technological conditions hormonal preparations are synthesized in order to safely talk about the quality of the product and minimize undesirable effects. It is noteworthy that Gedeon Richter is the only Eastern European company that entered the TOP-200 in the category of innovation costs with a 12% annual turnover.

In 2010, the joint-stock company purchased the Swiss biopharmaceutical company "Preglem". It offers molecules for the treatment of such complex gynecological diseases as uterine myoma, endometriosis and others.

Gedeon Richter-Rus

The company produces about two hundred names of medicines in more than 400 forms of release. As part of the strategy for the future, it was decided in 1996 to create a separate production facility in Central Russia. Hungarian pharmacists built one of the five subsidiaries in the Yegoryevsky district near Moscow. It produces:

• Finished medications;
• Intermediate connections;
• Active substances.

Thus, Gedeon Richter-Rus became the first foreign pharmaceutical company in Russia. Today the plant provides not only the domestic market, but also exports medicines to the CIS countries (Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Azerbaijan).

The current situation presupposes the joint work of scientists - pharmacists and physicians for the benefit of the society. "Gedeon Richter" initiates and supports events in Russia at various levels:
