Nubian goat breed: description and general description

Goats - perhaps the most unpretentious domestic animals. Breeder farmers, villagers, as well as the owners of household homesteads. All that is necessary for their successful cultivation is a small shed and a meadow near the house. There are many goat breeds. One of the most interesting and productive is Nubian. In Europe, these goats are bred everywhere. Unfortunately, our domestic owners of household plots and farms are not too good. However, recently there has been a steady increase in interest in these animals. Further in the article we will try to understand how to care for the Nubians, and also find out what advantages and disadvantages this breed is.

History

The Anglo-Nubian breed of goats was bred by British breeders. As a basis, they were taken from Asian, European and African species. As a result of painstaking work, very hardy, productive, unpretentious animals with an unusual exterior were obtained. Officially Nubian breed was registered in 1896. In 1900, these goats began to breed in America. Local breeders continued to work on improving the breed. In 1906, 40 Nubian goats were officially registered in America under the name Nubian.

In our country, this remarkable breed was noticed only 100 years later. In 1999, a large batch of coated Nubian goats was brought to Russia by N.N. Markelova, the general director of ANO "Ladushka".

Nubian Goat breed: description

To confuse this breed with any other is completely impossible. Distinctive features of Nubian goats are very long drooping ears and a hunchbacked noble "Roman" profile. The unconditional advantages of this breed include the complete absence of a specific odor. The color of Nubian goats can be completely different: black, brown, gray, white, patterned. Very colorful look variegated animals of this breed.

Nubian goat breeds are classified as meat and milk. These are very large animals with a long narrow body, strong legs and a large udder.

Character

To the pluses of the Nubian goat can be attributed, among other things, high fertility. By nature, these are active, cheerful animals, curious, benevolently related to the owners. It is best that the Nubians feel in the herd in the event that there are no goats of other breeds in it. To colds, these animals are somewhat unstable. After all, the ancestors of these goats still lived in sunny warm Asian and African countries.

Productivity

Adult goats of Nubian breed (photos of these animals can be seen on the page) reach a weight of 70-80 kg, goats - 130 kg. They surpass many other varieties and the quality of milk. Its fat content can be from 5 to 8.5%. However, they are still slightly inferior to milking goats of pure dairy breeds. For a day from one nubic you can get about 4-5 kg of milk. Average milk yield for lactation is 800-1200 kg. Due to the high fat content and high density, the milk of Nubian goats is widely used in cheese making. It also produces yogurts and cottage cheese.

The advantages of animals of this breed, among other things, can be attributed to the fact that the taste of the milk they give is completely independent of the conditions of the feed and the quality of the feed. This is a very useful dietary product. This milk is very fond of children. The fact is that he has absolutely no specific smell. Moreover, the milk of Nubian goats has a very pleasant creamy taste. Often this is the main reason for the choice of breeding these goats for farmers.

Nubian breeds are goats that grow up to 80 - 110 cm. The meat of these animals is also very tasty, juicy and tender. There are practically no shortcomings. Some farmers note only their "noisiness". The voice of the Nubian goats is very loud and not very pleasant. They use them often enough.

What should be the room

Because the cold Nubian goat breed does not tolerate very well, it is best these animals will feel in a heated barn. In any case, the room for them should be dry and light. The presence of cracks in the walls is not allowed. Like any other goats, drafts do not tolerate drafts. The window in the barn must be required. It is very good to arrange in the room for goats ventilation.

On the floor, it is necessary to decompose the litter of hay, straw or sawdust. Its large layer (40-50 cm) will allow to keep heat in the room and in the winter period of time.

Since the goats do not like sleeping on the floor, it is advisable to arrange special sunbeds for nubiks. To do this, around the perimeter of the barn on the walls are stuffed with wide boards (at a height of about 40 cm). You can also arrange a low platform in the room. It is allowed to keep these goats along with chickens, cows and other domestic animals.

In winter, goats (in not too frosty days) must be released for a walk. To do this, near the shed a pen is set up. It is advisable to cover it with a canopy. In the southern regions of the country, goats of this breed are allowed to be kept without a shed. In this case, a large enclosure is also arranged, covered with a canopy from the rain.

Feeding

The Anglo-Nubian breed does not require the development of any special diet. They are fed with hay, grass, branches, crushed vegetables, bran, oilcake, etc. It is necessary to give mineral additives - chalk, salt, etc. In winter, the diet should include root crops and potatoes. It is necessary to prepare and more brooms. Birch is better not to give. Eating them in large quantities in goats of any breed can cause kidney disease.

In summer, animals are driven out to pastures. When choosing a grazing place, one must take into account the fact that the watery grasses of the lowland goats are preferred by the more rigid odorous steppe. Near the pasture must be present pond. From industrial facilities, it must be removed no less than 5 km.

The pasture is divided into several sections. Grazing is performed alternately on each of them. This makes it possible to use grass more rationally. Goats eat almost all of its varieties. While grazing is done on one of the plots, the grass on the neighboring ones has time to grow.

Reproduction

The Nubian goat breed is distinguished by a rather high fertility. In a litter there are usually 2-3 cubs. Grow kids very quickly. Of course, with good content and balanced feeding. The first mating is performed after the animals are 8 months old. Goats of the Nubian breed are usually kept together with goats. The tribe is selected well-developed active, large animals. Baby goats after birth are fed by the mother colostrum, which has been thermally treated, from the bottle.

How much are the animals

Introduced in 1999 in Russia, the Nubian goat breed, a general characteristic of which was considered by us above, was very popular with domestic farmers. Little goats quickly bought and carried to different parts of the country. Today, the Nubian goat can be bought almost without problems. True, these animals are still quite expensive. In the breeding farm for an adult goat, for example, will have to pay about 200-250 thousand rubles. A young monthly goat will cost 100 thousand rubles. But you can find manufacturers and cheaper. On the Internet there are ads on the sale of adult animals and for 30-40 thousand rubles.

As you can see, the Nubian goat breed is characterized by high productivity and unpretentiousness. In the central part of Russia, because of the instability to cold, these animals, of course, are unlikely ever to become particularly popular. But in the southern regions of the country, farmers, perhaps, will take up their breeding seriously.
