Nods for a winter fishing rod. Homemade nod for a winter fishing rod

Any fisherman will tell you that for successful fishing you need only two things: success and proper tackle. On the first we are unlikely to be able to influence, but the second depends on us.

In this article, we'll talk about winter fishing for a float fishing rod and pay special attention to such an adaptation for it as a nod.

What are the winter fishing rods?

Winter fishing rod, unlike the usual summer, has a short length and a very simple design. All models of winter fishing rods, presented today on sale, are divided into three categories in form and arrangement:

  • Conventional fishing rod
  • "Filly";
  • "balalaika".

There is also a lot of homemade designs of winter fishing rods, invented and implemented by our savvy fishers. Winter self-made fishing rods are in no way inferior to shop-type fishing rods, and in many cases even surpass them.

What are the main models of winter fishing rods

A conventional fishing rod consists of a cortical or penopropylene handle, attached to it a coil and a whip length of 15-40 cm. These are universal rods, because with their help you can fish for fish of any kind and size, changing the whips.

"Mare" is the simplest winter fishing rod. The coil is not provided for in its design. The line is wound on the handle itself, made in the form of a motor-driver. She also has the option of changing the whip. Fishermen very often independently make "mare", adjusting them under certain conditions of catching. Winter homemade fishing rods of this type are mostly used for catching small perch, roach and smelt.

"Balalaika" is more often used in sport fishing for small fish, when fishing is carried out for a while. In order to reduce the size of the rod in this model, the coil was placed inside the handle. The whip can also be quickly and easily changed, selecting the necessary rigidity.

But to buy or make one of the models yourself is still half the battle, it is also important to know how to assemble a winter fishing rod correctly. And here the main attention should be paid to such an element as a nod. It depends on it, how the fish will react to the bait, and how quickly the angler will cut.

What is a nod

The nod (guard) is an element of a winter fishing rod designed to provide the necessary game of bait, as well as to signal the bite. It is attached directly to the whip by means of a clamp provided by the construction or by means of improvised materials (cambric, insulating tape, rubber ring, wire, etc.). A rig with a nod of a winter fishing rod is used both for fishing on peaceful fishes, and for hunting for a predator.

But only correctly chosen and correctly adjusted watchman will make the game of lure ideal and in time will tell the fisherman about the bite. It is very important to choose the right length, rigidity, and material. After all, too tight a guard will turn your fishing rod into an ordinary stick, but too plastic will become an unnecessary problem, hanging from the wind or current. Let's try to figure out what kind of nods are for a winter fishing rod, and also where, when and which ones are best used.

When a nod is used

Winter fishing rod provides for two types of equipment: float and nod. In the first case, the rod is equipped with a coil and a main fishing line with a float, which acts as a bait indicator. Usually this kind of rigging is used for catching fish on a hook with bait.

In those cases where the use of a float is impossible (severe frost, wind) or when a mermia is used as a bait, a nod is used.

Usually, anglers have in their arsenal several types of lodges designed for fishing in different conditions.

Of what do the nods

Nods for a winter fishing rod are made of such materials:

  • Plastic (lavsan);
  • Sheet steel;
  • Steel of coil spring;
  • Bamboo;
  • Boar wool, etc.

Also, the guard can be compound, that is, it is made of several different materials.

Types of hardness nods

Any lodge, depending on what it is made of, as well as length, has its own rigidity. Nods are classified into:

  • Soft;
  • Average;
  • Hard;
  • Superrigid.

Soft and medium nods for winter fishing rods can be used to catch any fish on ponds with standing water or with a moderate current.

Rigid and superrigious huts are used at a depth of more than 5 m in conditions of intense currents, as well as strong winds.

How to choose a nod depending on the bait

Given that winter fishing can be carried out using different baits, it is very important to choose a lodge that would match their weight, size and behavior in the water. According to these criteria, the following types of nods are classified:

  • A nod for the windless;
  • A nod for a mormish;
  • Nod for vertical flashing;
  • The balance pivot.

The softest lodges are used for catching on mormyshku without bait roach, a small perch. Most often they are made of thin sheet plastic or lavsan. They have the highest elasticity, which provides a "believable" game of various "devils", "goats", "nymphs" and other bezmotlok.

Nods for a winter fishing rod, equipped with a conventional mormyshka, should be more stringent. The greater weight of the bait, especially the tungsten, intended for catching at medium depths, requires the lodge not to succumb to the small vibrations created by the water flow. For the production of such nods, the same lavsan of greater thickness or thin leaf spring steel can be used.

For the vertical gliding of a large perch, short guardians of a thick line are used. The fact is that with this kind of fishing, the nod does not participate in the game, but is only a signaling bite.

For a large predator to shine, a spring nod is used by the balance. The balancing cab is usually made of a thin coil spring of different lengths. It has a movable fixation, which is fixed to the whip, which makes it easy to change its length and, accordingly, rigidity.

There are more "advanced" versions of the lodge, reminiscent of whole mechanisms. We will talk more about the most interesting of them.

Shcherbakov's pointing (bearing) nod

Some anglers for catching such pointed fish, like carp, often use lateral nods. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that the lodge is located on the whip not parallel to it, but perpendicularly. This decision makes the guard even more sensitive.

A separate kind of side shelters is the Shcherbakov nod. This is a whole construction, consisting of a small bearing, put on the rod whip, as well as a metal "rocker" (arrow), soldered in its upper working surface. At one end of the boom is a balancing weights, and on the other - a loop through which the main line is passed. The weight of the load must clearly correspond to the mass of the bait.

Such arrow lateral nods accurately determine the bite, so that any movement of the beam can be safely cut. In addition, they are very reliable and easy to install.

Now that we have got acquainted with the main types of lodges used for winter fishing, we will try to make some very simple models on our own.

Homemade nod from thin plastic

To make a plastic nod we will need:

  • A cylindrical cup made from sour cream or yogurt;
  • scissors;
  • awl;
  • A piece of a cambric;
  • nail polish.

First, cut the glass, remove the bottom and straighten the plastic. We cut several strips 10 cm long and 0.6-0.8 mm wide. Now we take one of them and with the help of scissors we bend one end into an arc. In it, at a distance of 3-5 mm with a heated awl make a hole under the line and paint its tip with a bright nail polish. At the other end of the future lodge we put on a piece of cambric with a width of 5-8 mm.

Thus, we have got a simple and reliable nod for the windless.

Watchdog from the clock spring

Necessary materials:

  • A spring of a clockwork or a clockwork toy with a width of 3-5 mm;
  • Scissors for metal;
  • Copper wire cross-section 0.5 mm;
  • sandpaper;
  • Ruler or vernier calipers;
  • Soldering iron, soldering acid and solder.

Using scissors, clamped in the hand, straighten the spring and cut off the 15-cm workpiece. Now cut off from both sides one of the ends so that its width is 2 mm. With sandpaper we grind the edges of the cut and smooth out any irregularities.

From the wire we make a loop so that its diameter does not exceed the width of the tip of the lodge. We process acid and loop, and the end of the nod. Solder them to each other and clean the place of soldering with a skin, getting rid of various irregularities and burrs.

A fishing rod with a nod of a spring is an excellent weapon for catching large roach, perch on mormyshk with bait.

Nod of twisted springs

Catching on the balancer involves the use of a more rigid lodge. There is no longer any plastic or thin sheet steel. But the twisted spring will be just right. So, we need:

  • A steel spring made of a braid of an accelerator cable of a motorcycle 15 cm long;
  • Soldering iron, soldering acid, solder;
  • A piece of a cambric;
  • file;
  • sandpaper;
  • Copper wire cross-section 0.5 mm;
  • nail polish;
  • Scissors for metal.

With the help of scissors for metal cut off the spring of the desired length and carefully grind the cut places with a file and a skin. From the wire we make a loop, the same as in the previous case. We process it and one edge of the future nod with acid. Solder it to the spring in such a way that the solder in the place of their connection formed a small ball. Carefully we all grind and paint the tip with nail polish. From a suitable diameter cambridge, make two segments with a width of 8-10 mm. Everything, the balance nod is ready.

Before you collect a winter fishing rod with a spring lodge, you need to accurately choose its rigidity, which should clearly correspond to the weight of the bait. The necessary elasticity of the spring nod is achieved by increasing or decreasing its length. It is enough to move the guard in the place of its connection with the whip in one direction or another, and the rigidity will increase or decrease.

Another interesting nod

There is another spring nod used by anglers for a long time, not only for winter fishing, but also for summer fishing in a plumb. It is produced not from sheet steel, and not from a coil spring, but from a conventional fishing line with a cross section of 1 or 2 mm. Because of its sensitivity and elasticity in the people it is often called snot.

It is made quite simply. In addition to fishing line, usually in the manufacturing process involved:

  • Aluminum wire section 3-6 mm;
  • Pliers;
  • A metal container with water and the possibility of boiling it.

One end of the aluminum wire is bent and with the help of pliers we clamp the beginning of a segment of a thick line in it. Next, we wind the fishing line onto the wire, turn to the turn, until we get a dense spiral 10-15 cm long. The end of the line is again clamped with wire and cut off.

Now boil the water and put our product in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. After that, we cool it in cold water, release the ends of the line and extract the wire.

We got a plastic spiral with excellent sensitivity. This homemade nod for a winter fishing rod is perfect for catching smelt, roach and perch on various baits. Increasing or decreasing the rigidity of the lodge is achieved by changing the thickness of the line and the diameter of the aluminum wire.

How to choose the rigidity of a nod for a certain type of fish

Fishing for nods of different types of fish requires the fisherman to understand its adjustment for different weights of the intended catch. The initial position of the loaded lodge plays the main role here. In order to carry out its adjustment, we need a winter fishing rod in assembly, a bait and a container with water, where it is possible to test.

We lower the tackle into the water, so that the mormish, the spoon or the balancer do not touch the bottom. We look at the position of the nod. For fish such as pike perch, large perch or grayling, its deviation down from the horizontal axis of the whip should be 5-10 0 . For crucian carp, smelt, and whitefish - 20-30 o .

But for carp, carp or bream, which, when bitten, usually raise the bait from the bottom, the deflection angle should be within 30-40 °.
