There is a lump in the throat - a true symptom of achalasia

The sensation, as if there is a lump in the throat, most often indicates a disease such as achalasia. It involves a decrease in the activity of the muscles of the esophagus, which is the link between the throat and stomach.

The activity of the esophagus tube is responsible for the passage of food when swallowed. In normal operation, solid food enters the stomach after a maximum of 8 seconds, and it takes no more than three seconds to pass the fluid. If the muscles of the esophageal tube become weaker, then the person feels like a lump in the throat, which makes it hard for him to swallow food, and with the start of the disease form, even the desire to drink water becomes a problem.

With achalasia, the time of ingestion of food into the stomach increases significantly, and consequently, during the intake process, the food stagnates in the upper part of the esophagus, which leads to stretching of its walls. Later in this department, the processes of decay of food remains begin. The sensation that there is a lump in the throat does not pass even a few hours after eating.

One more symptom of achalasia can be attributed to the output of products through the oral cavity. Since the lower part of the esophagus is greatly contracted and narrowed, the food is pushed outward as a result of spasms. It turns out that the patient spits up after eating. And if the child regurgitated mass is mixed with gastric juice, then the food returns without impurities, in pure chewed form. At this point, a small patient can feel how a lump in the throat forms.

Ignore the manifestation of such obvious signs of the disease can not, because if you do not start timely treatment, you can bring your body to complete exhaustion, which will lead to the development of other serious diseases.

Basically, food is pushed out by the esophagus to the outside, when the person is in a horizontal position, usually during sleep. Then a strong attack of coughing can start to torment him. But most often this happens when bending, for example, during cleaning or fastening shoes.

As the development of achalasia in 40% of cases there are unpleasant sensations. The patient experiences acute pain in the sternum, which is reflected on the upper back and neck. Because of the nature of the painful sensations, a person is deceived, thinking that there are problems with the functioning of the cardiovascular system. You can distinguish one from another by going through a simple test. It is necessary to check whether the unpleasant feeling will increase during physical exertion, for example, running or squats, and then also carefully listen to your body after lunch or dinner. As a rule, swallowing provokes the appearance of pain, which can last several hours, after which there is a painful feeling of discomfort in the chest area.

In the risk group are people of the age category from twenty to forty years. Symptomatic manifestations of achalasia are individual, that is, the degree of their development varies from person to person. As complications that can be caused by the disease, the esophagus rupture, lesion of the pulmonary system, expansion of the walls of the blood vessels are distinguished.

Whom in the throat: how to treat?

If the disease did not manage to pass into a neglected form, the doctor prescribes an easy conservative treatment, which involves a strict diet. It is necessary to completely abandon drinks containing alcohol, as well as not to eat solid foods, since they can damage the mucosa of the esophagus. It is best to limit yourself to light soups and broth. The rest of the products need to be chewed for a long time and thoroughly. The daily volume of food should be divided into 5 receptions, that is, eat in small portions.

Sometimes the feeling that there is a lump in the throat is associated with the development of other diseases. For example, there is a burning sensation of the throat due to a cold. The cause of this phenomenon can be the pathology of the thyroid gland, regular stress or prolonged depression and even the formation of a tumor.
