"Nissan Terrano" and "Renault Daster": comparison, characteristics, test drive. Which is better: "Nissan Terrano" or "Renault Daster"

Recently, crossovers have gained popularity in Russia. Now many German, French and American manufacturers produce products of this class. Do not lag behind the Japanese. So, a couple of years ago they released an updated "Nissan Terrano", designed to be the main competitor for the "Duster". In today's article, we will try to compare "Nissan Terrano" and "Renault Daster" and answer the question about which car is better.

Design

That "Terrano", which was produced in the 90's, remained in the past. The Japanese got rid of the dull rectangular forms. Now in the priority tempting design. After all, it's the exterior that consumers pay the most attention to right now. The car was built on the famous platform "Nissan B0". This is a mid-size crossover, which received a corporate, Nissan style. So, the front part strongly resembles the "Navar" of the end of the zero years. The car features massive wheel arches, a wide chrome grille and a pronounced lateral body line. Now let's move on to the Duster. It's no secret that the car was positioned as the most affordable crossover in its class. Therefore, Dacia Logan was taken as a platform. It was stretched in size, added clearance and put huge disks. Front "Daster" is very attractive: multi-component optics, tight fodder and a huge grille with a corporate logo. But the car looks awful from behind. What is just the design of the lamps. These disproportionate forms have caused a wave of bewilderment among many motorists.

Differences

If you compare these two SUVs externally, then what are the differences worth noting? "Renault Daster" and "Nissan Terrano", despite the similar size and class, noticeably different in appearance. The design of "Terrano" is more attractive and aggressive. What's there to say, Nissan looks an order of magnitude more expensive than its French rival. Many motorists agree with this. Speaking of fundamental differences, this is a bumper shape, wider wheel arches and a pleasant rear optics. Although the front looks no less harmonious. If not for the design of the rear, the "Frenchman" could make a good competition to the Japanese "Terrano". In the meantime, "Daster" is losing to him in all respects.

Salon

Despite the fact that the cars "Renault Daster" and "Nissan Terrano" belong to the budget class, inside they are very different. Look what the French crossover salon looks like. Since the platform was taken from the "Logan", many Romanian parts "migrated" and into the salon. Among them - mediocre noise insulation, hard and rattling plastic. And the architecture of the front panel looks very sad. This is not just confirmed by the owners. Whatever one may say, the French designers have saved money on interior design. Round deflectors, a fairly simple steering wheel, the center console, "strewn" with caps - all these are features of the budget crossover Renault Daster. Now let's move on to the Japanese SUV. The salon looks much richer. The handlebars are three-spoke, with silver inserts. The central console has a climate control unit and a small screen of the radio. On top there is a glove box. Also there are niches in the door cards and on the passenger side (a deep slot above the glove box). In the light colors, Nissan looks much more expensive than its price. The seats have a strong support and are marked by an abundance of adjustments. The sound quality is an order of magnitude higher than that of the "Frenchman".

As for the volume of the trunk, in the standard version, up to 475 liters of luggage is placed here. There is a function of folding the rear seats. This allows you to increase the usable volume to 1635 liters. If you compare the "Nissan Terrano" and "Renault Daster", the volume of the trunk of the latter is an order of magnitude smaller. In the all-wheel drive version, it is 408 liters. And with folded seats - only 1570 liters.

Specifications

We have already compared the design and interior of SUVs. "Renault Daster" or "Nissan Terrano" - which is better? While positive impressions remain only from the "Japanese". However, in terms of the variety of power plants, Nissan is noticeably inferior to Duster. The last in the list of as many as 8 engines, among which there are both diesel and gasoline units. However, only four of them are available for the Russian market. The basic is a 102-horsepower gasoline unit with a capacity of 1.6 liters. Naturally, this capacity is not enough for such an equipped mass. And if "Logan" still somehow "digested" this torque, then things are different. This motor is clearly not for active driving.

Also in the line there is a 114-horsepower gasoline engine with the same working volume. But, as the reviews say, and this power is not enough for the crossover. To somehow realize the potential, you need to choose a two-liter motor that develops 135 horsepower of power. The diesel unit, officially supplied to Russia, has simply ridiculous characteristics. With a volume of 1.5 liters, it develops 90 horsepower. Naturally, with this engine he does not go anywhere. Acceleration to a hundred - almost 16 seconds. The maximum speed is 156 kilometers per hour.

As the reviews say, "Nissan Terrano" and "Renault Daster" are very similar in technical terms. The Japanese has almost the same line of units. Rights, it's a little truncated. Here, too, there is a 90-horsepower diesel engine for a liter and a half, as well as two gasoline units. The first with a volume of 1.6 liters develops 103 horsepower, the second - 137 with a volume of 2 liters.

CPR

With regard to transmissions, both cars have the same line of transmission. Among them, mechanics is represented by five- and six-stage transmissions. The automatic box here is one (both for "Daster" and for "Terrano") - four-stage, with a hydrotransformer.

Test drive: "Renault Daster" and "Nissan Terrano"

How do these crossovers behave on the move? From a technical point of view, it's the same car. The scheme of the all-wheel drive, motors and transmission are the same. As for the work of the suspension, these are two absolutely identical crossover. The suspension pits the pits hard enough. There is also a heavy steering wheel in the parking lot (although the hydraulic booster is present in both). But at speed it becomes easier. We have to pamper you periodically. In terms of acceleration dynamics, the cars have similar characteristics. True, Nissan is almost 100 kilograms heavier. Therefore, he will slightly lose the "Daster". Reviews of owners do not recommend buying a diesel engine. And if for the foreign market is available 110-strong unit, which at least somehow goes, then in Russia you can buy a motor only for 90 forces. Due to the high weight of the mass, it can not cope with the loads. The same goes for low-powered gasoline engines. It becomes clear why the fuel consumption of the 1.6- and 2-liter versions is almost the same. As for the characteristics of patency, both are not full-fledged SUVs. As the test drive showed, "Renault Daster" and "Terrano" on the front drive are simply impotent off-road. The plug-in rear axle can remedy this situation. But there are no hard locks here. Therefore, the main element of crossovers is asphalt.

Price

So, we got to the decisive factor - the cost. The initial price for "Daster" in the minimum wage is 630 thousand rubles. It will be a car on the front drive, a mechanical "five-speed" and a 1.6-liter engine. "Terrano" with the same configuration will be 260 thousand more expensive. As for the maximum complete sets, the "Daster" with full drive and two-liter motor costs exactly 1 million rubles.
The same "Terrano" is available at a price of 1 million 167 thousand rubles. However, the cost of options for the Japanese is cheaper. For example, a full drive costs 58 thousand rubles. The "Duster" - 8 thousand more expensive. Already in the mid-range configuration, Nissan is equipped with a stabilization system, which significantly improves the characteristics of patency. On the "Reno" this function is only available as an option (even in the maximum configuration).

The result

So, "Renault Daster" or "Nissan Terrano" - what is better? If you have a beautiful design and interior in the priority, it is definitely worth choosing "Nissan". If you do not see the reason to overpay for appearance, then definitely take "Daster". In the rest, "Nissan Terrano" and "Renault Daster" - very similar cars.
