Eggplants in the greenhouse. Growing seedlings

Eggplants, or, as they are called, "blue" - very thermophilic vegetables, the birthplace of which is India. In different countries they are called differently, but we always recognize them on the counter in a bright violet shade and love for the astringent aroma and bitter aftertaste.

Few people know that these vegetables in hot countries grow as perennials, and only in a temperate climate can be found aubergines in a greenhouse. Growing "blue" in our band is quite possible, if planted in a seedling way.

Early-ripening varieties of eggplant

When choosing a variety, it is best to focus on early maturing hybrids, in our strip only eggplant grows well in the greenhouse. Cultivation of these vegetables before full ripening occurs on average from 90 days or more. These are the following varieties of eggplant:

  1. "The Don".
  2. "King of the North."
  3. "Delicacy".
  4. "Green".
  5. "Black handsome."

Growing seedlings

  1. In the beginning it is necessary to disinfect the seeds in a weak solution of manganese or epine. Then put them in wet gauze in a warm sunny place for germination.
  2. In the peat pots, fill in the prepared soil and place 1 seed on the pot to a depth of about 1.5-2 cm. If the eggplant's root system is damaged, then it is restored very reluctantly and for a long time, therefore, for convenience, we recommend planting 1 plant.
  3. Place the seeds planted in the ground on a window sill in a warm and sunny place.
  4. Begin to cultivate seedlings should be in late February, about 1.5-2 months before transplanting it into a greenhouse.

Hardening of seedlings

It is necessary to temper the grown plants, before planting eggplants in the greenhouse. Growing this vegetable culture is quite laborious, so be patient. Carry out sprouts to fresh air in warm sunny weather and be sure to drop it into a warm place for the night.

Eggplant, growing in greenhouses

When the plants are sufficiently strong and reach a height of 25-30 cm, you can already transplant them to a permanent place. The age of the seedlings is 50-60 days. Eggplants are very demanding for light and have wide spreading leaves, like burdock, so keep the distance between the bushes at least 40 cm.

Care

Timely watering and weeding is not all the care that eggplants require in the greenhouse. Growing "blue" in poor lighting is fraught with falling leaves and buds, in addition, these vegetables need to be hilled. Regular airing of the greenhouse will also benefit the aubergines. Under each bush, it is desirable to coat the soil to preserve moisture. Water them at least once a week with warm water. If regularly carried out artificial pollination, the fruit is tied much more. It is also worth remembering about fertilizing the bushes once every 2 weeks.

Harvesting

In the middle of August you will be able to rip off your first eggplant. Growing in a greenhouse, of course, is not as effective as on the open ground in hot countries, but with proper care, you will get a very good, and most importantly, a useful harvest. Breaking off the ripe fruit is not quite ripe, you will increase the shelf life in the refrigerator. For the harvesting for the winter, the overripe eggplant is also not suitable.
