Neurodermatitis: Symptoms and Treatment

Neurodermatitis is a fairly common disease that occurs on the skin. Recent studies show a neurological component in the etiology of neurodermatitis. It was revealed that the rashes on the skin appear with negative emotions, stress, nervous strains. Neurodermatitis is the response of the skin to the inability of the body to adapt to new changes caused by stress. As a rule, neurodermatitis develops from children's allergic reactions. It is important for parents to monitor the process if the baby has an allergy (especially exudative forms of diathesis) so that the neurodermite does not develop against it. The disease can also develop due to allergies to medicines, food, household chemicals, especially if the child is prone to urticaria, bronchial asthma.

If neurodermatitis (symptoms) is diagnosed , treatment takes a long time to get a positive result. Sometimes at the age of puberty, the disease passes into the stage of remission, but not at all.

A significant role is played by hereditary factors - if the mother was ill with a neurodermitis, the child almost always has this or that allergic predisposition.

Neurodermatitis, the symptoms of which are clear and simple for any dermatologist, does not cause any difficulties in diagnosing. There are two kinds of neurodermatitis - diffuse and limited. The signs of neurodermatitis in a limited type are most often found among adults. The skin is affected in certain areas - in the area of the elbows and popliteal folds, on the forearm, on the inner surface of the thigh, on the wrists, neck, legs, scrotum. The affected skin zone is conditionally divided into such parts - peripheral (with a change in skin color), medium (with the formation of papules) and infiltrative (with elements of skin laxation). Limited neurodermatitis spreads to the skin not much - as a rule, there is a pair of patches, symmetrical to each other. A patch of skin with a limited neurodermitis does not get wet.

Diffuse neurodermatitis, the symptoms of which are manifested most often in children, is somewhat more difficult for the clinic. It is almost impossible to distinguish foci - the process spreads all over the body, then fades, then becomes inflamed in certain places. Most often the person suffers - the area around the eyes and mouth. Then the neurodermatitis seizes the neck, elbows and popliteal. If for a long time the same place suffered from neurodermatitis, even in the stage of remission, the skin remains brown, with scars visible, as if stretching. If the disease worsens, the children feel an unbearable itch and comb the affected areas to severe wounds. It is provoked by itchy wool clothes, which the patient does not recommend to wear a neurodermite. Most often, exacerbations occur in the spring-autumn period, but summer and winter are relatively calm. True in the summer it is important to monitor that there is no sweating, which can provoke neurodermatitis.

Neurodermatitis, the symptoms of which are detected in the early stages, is best treated with well-chosen drugs. It is important that the treatment be conducted by two specialists - an allergist and pediatrician. At the stage of exacerbation it is necessary to exclude products-allergens: seafood, sweet, etc. Of great importance is the attitude of those around to the illness of the patient. Do not focus on this, it is better to distract, not to create conflict situations. If the child has a neurodermatitis, the symptoms of the disease are best masked, so that others do not injure him with their inquiries - many children develop neurosis on this soil and the disease only worsens. Of drugs prescribe antihistamines, corticosteroids, vitamins. Physiotherapy is widely used.
