N. Gogol, "Nevsky Prospekt". Analysis of the work

Many writers who created in the XIX century, addressed in their work to the theme of St. Petersburg. Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol and his Nevsky Prospekt are no exception. The analysis of this story is, first of all, the study of the image of this city and the way it appears before us in the work. Petersburg is a truly amazing city, because it was built against all the laws of nature for an extremely short time, and at the will of only one person. Throughout the centuries it was a symbol of the struggle of contrasts: poverty and prosperity, beauty and ugliness - all these extremes in some incomprehensible way got along here.

The image of Petersburg in the work of N. V. Gogol

The most outstanding minds of Russia from early years sought to St. Petersburg, and it was in this city that they won the status of the best publicists, writers, critics, etc. However, here they came face to face with need and humiliation. The city seemed to suck people into a swamp of ostentatious luxury, vulgarity and stupidity. The center and the place where these seemingly incompatible concepts met was the main street of the city - the same Nevsky Prospekt.

Analysis of the story of N. Gogol necessarily pays much attention precisely to the image of the city itself, which seems to be endowed with its own soul. It's not just a capital, it's not just a metropolis with amazingly beautiful streets, majestic palaces and picturesque Neva. Petersburg in the author's view is a kind of revived giant who has his unique face, temper, whims and habits.

Hundreds of people are walking along Nevsky Prospekt daily. And they also have the most diverse characters. Gogol separately emphasizes that, despite the fact that at any time of the day on the avenue you can meet a huge crowd of people, between them there is no sense of unity, of some kind of community. The only thing that unites all of them is the meeting place. Describing the street, the author says that it creates a feeling, as if a demon the whole world has crumbled into a multitude of tiny fragments and "confused, without meaning, together."

The similarity of fate and the contradictory character of Pirogov and Piskarev

However, as we narrate into the novel "Nevsky Prospekt", the analysis of which we are conducting, two whole heroes are included, to which the author pays close attention. The first is Lieutenant Pirogov, and the second is Piskarev, "a young man in a dress coat and a raincoat." Pirogov well-known laws of the modern world. He knows that life in a magnificent city is in many ways similar to playing roulette. But one who is ready to constantly take risks for the performance of the most intimate, hopeless and even sometimes ridiculous of his dreams, will be able to subdue him.

The lieutenant, following his convictions, takes risks. In his loss, he does not see anything unusual or tragic, and, not without the influence of the cool evening Nevsky Prospekt, quickly copes with the "anger and indignation" that has taken possession of him.

The second hero - Piskarev, the same "young man in a raincoat and dress coat", tries to act just like his friend. He is also failing. But for him, feeling lonely and alien in the northern capital of the empire, such an event becomes fatal. A timid and shy by nature artist, who for a long time carried sparks in his heart that always waited for his time to "turn into a flame," literally entrusted his fate to Nevsky Prospekt. The analysis of the work "Nevsky Prospekt" is an analysis of two similarly outwardly different but essentially different stories. Both heroes risk everything, but Pirogov, for whom everything that happens is a game, does not really lose anything. For Piskarev, this is life. A person who delicately feels the world, is unable to instantly become gross and stiff, stop trusting the world. However, and quickly forget about the disappointment, which he experienced through the fault of the famous avenue, can not.

What did he want to show by completing Nevsky Prospekt, Gogol? The analysis of this story is an analysis of the parallel narrative about two characters that are opposites of each other in character and attitude. To the reader, such a contrast allows one to understand more deeply the contradictoriness of Nevsky Prospekt itself. The comic character of the situation in which the lieutenant Pirogov turns out to be, is contrasted with the tragic fate of the poor fellow Piskarev. In the same way, the atmosphere of comic vulgarity, characteristic of the Nevsky morning, is combined with tragic evening vulgarity and lies. "... he lies at any time, this Nevsky Prospect," says Gogol.

Conclusion

A tiny flame that dances before your eyes, beckons for yourself and entices you into dangerous networks, - this is how the author seeks to present Nevsky Prospect. Analysis of the story makes you think about deeply philosophical issues. For the artist Piskarev meeting with Nevsky and its inhabitants becomes fatal, it literally devastates his soul. In his eyes, the beauty of the world turns into nothing, and in itself the question arises: "If all this is a phantom mirage, what in this case is real in general?" And the author gives the answer - the Nevsky Prospekt itself remains real, in which the eternal riddle is combined with the eternal Deceit.
