Moscow State Machine-Building University (MAMI): student feedback

The largest technical university in the country - the Moscow Polytechnic University - absorbed two metropolitan universities, including the machine-building university - MAMI. Reviews of graduates of previous years do not fully understand this replenishment of the "alma mater". However, today's students believe that the university did not lose any merit from the merger. Firstly, because the Moscow Polytechnic was a very good successor to the best traditions of MSTU MAMI, the reviews point to the confident development of the scientific and educational activities of the new educational institution, consisting of two perfectly complementary and equally glorious Moscow universities. Moreover, each of them has gone through a difficult path of many reorganizations and renaming.

Way

The first step is always important, because it is he who chooses the direction for the whole long and long journey. The Moscow State Machine-Building University (MAMI) began to receive feedback already in its infancy, in 1864, when a small handicraft school for the poor was opened in Moscow. And since the direction was chosen correctly, in a short time the Komissarovo Technical School already flaunted on the site of the school - from the technical secondary educational institutions leading, which probably did not exist in tsarist Russia.

Many believe that it was then that the formation of the national vocational education began. KTU improved, accumulated experience, and most of its traditions remained for a long time after the revolution. Other educational institutions were organized on its basis, which will be discussed below, but the direction was preserved at the time of the MAMI organization. The responses of the graduates who graduated from this university are full of nostalgia and gratitude for the quality of education, since specialists from these walls have always come out remarkable.

KTU

At that time the machine-building industry in Russia did not exist, and the craft school taught the children of the poor and orphans a binding craft, shoe and tailor. He founded the Christian Meien School, and the money was allocated by the railroad tycoon Pyotr Gubonin. In 1866, when no one even in a fantastic dream saw the creation of the MAMI Technical University at the tailor's base, the feedback about this school was very positive.

Otherwise, she would not have been given the name of the national hero Komissarov in 1866, who saved Alexander II in the attempt on his life. So the school became Komissarovskaya. And in 1869 the same Gubonin built a school for the school right in the center of Moscow - in Blagoveshchensky Lane - and a beautiful temple of Alexander Nevsky, adjacent to the new craft school. Very quickly developed Komissarovskaya school. The boys studied here for three full years, and the processing of wood and metal completely replaced the shoe and tailoring training in three or four years. In the 1870s the school became a school.

ICTU

Now they have been studying for five years, and since 1886 there have been seven. By 1892, new buildings and a variety of equipment for the newest models of the time. In 1902 the school had already twenty separate buildings, its own power station and electric lighting from it. There were workshops copper-casting and iron foundries, as well as a large wood processing shop.

From time to time, MAMI students write about these old buildings, where once the KTU was located, which in 1916 was awarded the title of Imperial (ICTU). They love their university and its history. Students write that in terms of their technical equipment, curriculum, teaching methods and education, the school clearly exceeded the level itself. All this was more like a higher education institution, and the universities did not stand for equipment above it. The school differed from the university only in that the students received practical skills.

Lomonosov College of Technology

The professional authority of the ICTU in the country was unusually high. Many eminent industrialists and future scientists were trained here. VM Kovan - one of the pillars of the domestic engineering industry graduated from this educational institution. M. A. Saverin is a prominent teacher and scientist, professor at the MVTU. Bauman also received his first knowledge in this school. In the Soviet era, professors of the IKTU, who worked there for a long time before the revolution, became professors.

These are academicians of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR VS Kulebakin and VA Aleksandrov-Roslavliev, DK Karelskikh, IV Gribov - Professor of MAMI (Institute), many associate professors and doctors of sciences who previously worked In the ICTU. And right after the revolution this educational institution began to be called differently: in 1919 it was renamed the First Moscow Mechanical and Electrical College. Lomonosov (in the people - Lomonosov College).

PMEI

At the same time, new branches were opened, now there are five of them: automotive, steam, internal combustion engines, metal processing, electrical engineering. The technical school had its own Presidium, where IV Gribov presided, later headed the auto-tractor department, and also the department for the operation of the car. But it was much later, when this educational institution was already called the Moscow Automotive Mechanics Institute. Reviews about MAMI (Moscow) consisted mostly of thanks to the teachers. Ivan Vasilyevich Gribov enjoyed the indisputable authority and immeasurable love of the students.

However, the possibilities of the former IKTU far exceeded even those of the technical school, much better qualified personnel for the young Soviet industry were trained here. That is why in 1920 the technical school became the Practical Mechanics and Electrotechnical Institute named after Lomonosov. At that time practical institutes trained specialists of highly specialized, in separate branches of knowledge. The course of study became a three-year course, and it was divided in two. After a year and a half students received a certificate of completion of the concentration, where the qualification was indicated: engineer, technician and so on, and a year and a half later - the second, but always only in the chosen specialty. By the volume of programs, it was not yet a university of engineering.

MAMI

Reviews about the quality of teaching, however, and then were excellent, otherwise the practical institute could not already in 1922 become a higher technical educational institution. However, the institution came to its usual name to us all at once. At first it was the Moscow Mechanic-Electrotechnical Institute with the Rector IV Gribov. In 1924 he became the Moscow Mechanical Institute. (In 1925 he first produced real mechanical engineers in the number of forty-five people).

In 1930, the institute was called the Moscow motor tractor. And only in 1932 got its real name - the Moscow Automotive Institute named after Lomonosov. However, this transformation was not completed. There was even (though not too long) a period when this glorified educational institution as such ceased to exist. This was not a complete death, since the whole institute was compressed to the size of the faculty, but, it may be said, a coma. Fortunately, the government quickly corrected this annoying mistake.

Transformations

Further, many years after the re-creation of MAMI, it selflessly carried out a difficult mission of the main branch higher educational institution of the country and prepared the most highly qualified personnel for all research institutes and enterprises of the automotive industry. Then came the new time, the time of the following transformations. In 1992 MAMI became the Academy of Automotive and Tractor Mechanical Engineering. The new status did not last long. Already in 1997, the Ministry of Education ordered the renaming of the Academy in MSTU MAMI. Further in 2011, a merger of two universities occurred, that is, MSTU MAMI received a new structural unit in the form of the Moscow State University of Engineering Ecology.

MGUIE is also an old university with its own traditions. It was founded in 1931 on the basis of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology (Mendeleyev Institute of Chemistry and Technology) and, literally, literally flourished under the name of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering Engineers. It was the oldest and one of the most respected universities in the country, the leading educational institution for the training of scientific and engineering personnel. There were also many wonderful teachers here. II Artobolevsky, for example, an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, widely known for his works, as well as a well-known and popularly loved P. L. Kapitsa is a Nobel laureate and a member of the English Royal Society. But now we are not talking about MGUIE, but about MAMI. University reviews collect in huge numbers. It is especially interesting to read student forums.

"Automechanics" joke

The University of MGUIE, of course, has its own pride, and in the merger of universities the equality turned out at first somewhat resembling rivalry. Therefore, discussion at forums of such painful topics as the domestic auto industry, sometimes passed not only to the individual, but also to accusations of inadequate training of the educational institution.

From the adherents of chemical engineering in the direction of "auto mechanics" often flew the word "diapers" (there is a Japanese company Unicharm, which produces children's products Mamy Poko - diapers "Mami Poko"). Reviews, interspersed with emoticons, say that "auto mechanics" did not remain in debt.

About problems

But - jokes aside. The most interesting and the most painful topics are actually discussed. Diseases of our automotive industry have occurred and are happening precisely because young technologists, designers and engineers can not communicate their ideas to use in industry.

This is a huge misfortune. Because abroad, they almost always find such a recognition, and the introduction of their ideas does not make you wait. How many times when, in the silhouette of a foreign concept car, one can see the outline of a drawing that has been gathering dust in Russia for a long time only because the student-designer is too young for ideas that can be implemented.

Now

And now in MSTU MAMI has a student design bureau, where the student has the opportunity to display his talents. Moreover, he can see the results of work - a ready car, really functioning.

Now the university has six faculties and three branches. The number of directions and specializations is increasing every year, and the contingent is becoming increasingly in the MSTU MAMI. The feedback from students suggests that learning is becoming more difficult, but more interesting. And, they write this training literally at all departments - and correspondence, and evening and day.

Very useful information

Ten thousand people are trained at MSTU MAMI at a time. The students' reviews have repeatedly mentioned the University's hospitality at Bolshoy Semyonovskaya, 38. The applicants here do not offend, although they supplement their ranks with all the rigor of the competitive basis. Faculties are ready to receive talented young people. There is, from which to choose!

1. Cars and tractors.

2. Power engineering and instrument making.

3. Design and technology.

4. Mechanic-technological.

5. Economic.

6. Automation and management.

Required for all nonresident students in MAMI, hostel. Reviews say - good, in any buildings. All details on admission and further education can be found in the Open Doors Days, information on dates can be obtained on the university's website. There are preparatory courses - correspondence and full-time.
