Mitral valve prolapse. Treatment

The prolapse of the heart valves is a common and often non-dangerous pathology. This disease is not accompanied by any symptoms. Its essence lies in the fact that during the heart contractions an anomalous protrusion of valve flaps is formed. In general, prolapse occurs in young people aged 15-30 years and women. The appearance of this ailment is associated with the inherent weakness of the connective tissue of the valves.

Symptoms of the disease

The prolapse of the mitral valve, the treatment of which is not required in all cases, can cause the following symptoms: "irregularities" in the work of the heart, pain in the chest, weakness, dizziness. In rare cases, there may occur arrhythmia, shortness of breath, and even there may be significant irregularities in the work of the heart. In this case, mitral valve prolapse, the treatment of which usually does not involve any prescription, requires surgical intervention and drug therapy.

Often, the disease occurs due to heredity. It can be activated in the presence of Marfan syndrome, Eleks-Danton or in connection with the diseases, which cause damage to the heart muscle and connective tissue.

Factors contributing to the risk of complications.

  • Age. In older people, the possibility of developing side-effects is less common than in young people.
  • Floor. Complications in men are more common than in women.
  • Family history. If one of the relatives of the patient has been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, treatment of the disease may also be required due to the development of complications.
  • Structural anomalies.

Mitral valve prolapse. Treatment

Quite often, the disease is detected by accident, in a survey assigned to other pathologies. The activities carried out for this disease are associated with the degree of severity of the disease, its type and form of complications.

The asymptomatic form is treated by traditional methods, with the help of measures aimed at restoring the psychoemotional status of the patient and general strengthening of the organism, as well as contributing to the normalization of the vegetative system.

When mitral regurgitation is detected, accompanied by arrhythmia, correction of vegetative disorders by medicinal and other methods is necessary.

In the event that the prolapse of the heart is clearly pronounced and involves surgical intervention, antibiotic therapy with a preventive purpose is prescribed to prevent the occurrence of infective endocarditis. If a patient has chronic infections, sanitation is performed.

Active treatment is necessary in the event that prolapse causes pain and arrhythmia. In this situation, the cardiologist individually appoints special medications.

If the patient complains of disorders of a neurological nature, medicinal purposes prescribe water procedures, acupuncture, psychotherapy, massage. In the event that there is a disturbance in the rhythm of the heart, loss of consciousness or coronary insufficiency (in the patient himself or in an anamnesis of close relatives), cardioselective drugs and magnesium preparations are used. And with the appearance of neurotic abnormalities, sedatives and tranquilizers are prescribed.

Mitral valve prolapse and sport

With this disease (if it's not about pathology with regurgitation), you can practice tennis, swimming, athletics and so on. But from jogging sports (wrestling, jumping, karate) should refrain

Patient with this pathology is recommended to observe the daily routine, alternate work and rest, give sufficient time to sleep.
