Metal entrance doors to the apartment are soundproof

The requirements for door constructions are increased along with the consumer's requests for convenience and comfort of living space. Basically it's about performance. For example, providing insulation and waterproofing canvas has long become an indispensable condition for production. The level of acoustic comfort of the entrance doors is also growing, as evidenced by the introduction of new insulating materials with noise suppression in the construction.

Soundproofing factors

Technologies for supplying structures with insulating qualities often overlap. Thus, the parameters of the heat and waterproofing device, which the metal entrance doors have, are combined. Noise insulation properties can also be achieved in combination with other functions thanks to one material. The main auxiliary factor in improving the insulation efficiency of structures is their tightness. Accordingly, the masters note the following structural aspects affecting sound insulation:

  • The kind of material used to create the door leaf;
  • Characteristics of the filler;
  • Density and accuracy of fit;
  • In general, the quality of the installation;
  • Seal dimensions;
  • Inclusion of the threshold in the system and its properties.

Each parameter affects the overall insulation function of the door system. Still, the main contribution is made by technologists, who initially develop the entrance doors to the apartment, the noise insulation characteristics of which comply with the standards.

How is soundproofing achieved?

The list of key tasks of developers of such designs includes the creation of a door "pie", which will act as a reliable barrier to noise in the staircase and the street. For this, the canvases are endowed with different functional elements.

One of the main conditions in achieving the tightness of the doors is overlapping of all design gaps. The ideal arrangement of all elements of the fabric provides the foundation for noise insulation. Empty niches are filled with damping materials, and the platbands are made from MDF. The role of the internal insulator is difficult to overestimate - its varieties will be considered. By the way, metal soundproof doors on the outside are often finished with the same MDF or other wood-shaving products.

Such a combination of measures is mandatory, but the means and techniques for providing sound suppression can vary. Now consider the features of noise insulation of wooden and metal door leaves.

Wooden soundproof doors

Although the entrance doors are usually associated with metal sheets in the structure, modern technologies allow the wood to be provided with a sufficient level of reliability to be used as the main obstacle on the way to the house. And from the point of view of acoustic properties, some rocks of natural material are superior to steel analogs.

In particular, the noise-insulated entrance doors made of wood can provide noise insulation up to 32 dB, while maintaining a high degree of safety. The frames of the canvases of such models are produced from glued plywood, and mainly coniferous varieties are used. Also, the designs are complemented by internal strapping. As a filling, aluminum plates and chipboard protrude. The exterior decorative finish can be represented by natural veneer or artificial coverings.

Metal soundproof doors

A fundamental difference between the manufacture of steel noise protection models is the orientation toward filling the interior space. This is the same filler, acting as the main barrier in the path of external sounds.

As a rule, the noise absorbing base is formed by mineral wool or foam. At cost, both options are almost equivalent, but from the point of view of noise protection, the first type of filler is more profitable. In addition to the main insulation package, it is worth considering the accompanying materials, which also supplement the entrance doors to the apartment.

Soundproofing properties, in particular, define decorative materials, for example, panels of vinyl silk and MDF - the most effective means of decoration in terms of sound suppression.

Increased noise reduction

There is no clear division into models with conventional and increased soundproofness, however, if one is guided by the principle of "commodity goods", then some differences can be identified.

In this case, the obvious difference is expressed in figures - the most effective acoustic protection will prevent noise in 40 dB. This is achieved by including in the construction of one of the following types of fillers:

  • mineral wool;
  • Polystyrene or polystyrene;
  • Composite insulators;
  • Soundproof panels with foil base.

There are also models with other materials in the cavity, but this set is the most relevant at the moment. It is worth noting that the list of advantages that have doors with increased noise insulation, also includes effective insulation.

Safety and soundproofing

It may sound unlikely, but isolation often becomes a technological means, which lowers the protective functions of the entrance doors. This is a delicate moment for ordinary users to trace the relationship is difficult. Either way, manufacturers are forced to maneuver between the two properties, covering all available means of increasing insulation.

Insulators occupy a considerable part of the space in the canvas, which does not allow the use of additional means of mechanical protection, including increasing the thickness of metal sheets. Still, manufacturers are trying to combine two qualities, providing the optimal product for a long-lasting and comfortable operation.

Additional protection against noise

In achieving optimal parameters of soundproofing of doors, not only the characteristics of the fabric play a role, but also the quality of the installation with the accompanying design decoration tools. If the installation rules are not observed, the soundproof door to the apartment may not show its technical merits (by the way, 35% of the efficiency of sound suppression depends on the installation).

To begin with, the gap between the frame and the opening should be sealed as much as possible. This is done by building foam or silicone. The door box is subjected to special insulation, and between the outer finish and the steel plate, a porous material, for example thermofol, should be laid. Installers also advise to carefully check the platbands with respect to the fixing density, and the thresholds - on the quality of the installation. Each of these zones can affect the noise effect both for the better and for the worse.

How to choose quality doors with noise isolation?

The selection process is fairly simple and even without special training and laboratory tests, you can find the best-suited entrance doors to an apartment whose soundproof properties meet specific requirements.

Start the review with the seal. In a qualitative design, this element has an integral shape and fits snugly to the steel sheet. Next, you should evaluate how closely the curtains are closed on the holes and whether the eyelet is integrated securely. All fittings, which are built in before the installation of the box, must be carefully checked.

Perhaps, the most responsible choice concerns filler. Since it performs the tasks of thermal insulation, the best solution should be determined on the basis of a comprehensive set of operational requirements. For example, one apartment will need polyurethane, and in the other, the optimal door will be the entrance door to the apartment, the soundproofing properties of which are determined by the mineral component.

Equally important is the presence of stiffeners. In addition to increasing technical safety, there is a decrease in sound vibrations, which are not coped with by any finishing material.

Price issue

Unfortunately, the cost of high-quality entrance doors, regardless of their functionality, is quite high, which limits many consumers. Nevertheless, competitive struggle is cooling the entrepreneurial spirit, allowing you to purchase soundproof doors from the manufacturer at affordable prices.

So, the prices are determined mainly by two factors: the main material (metal or wood) and the level of noise insulation - on average from 32 to 42 dB. Reliable models of wood with the highest possible level of acoustic protection can be purchased for 40-50 thousand rubles. Their metal counterparts are more expensive for several thousand. The budget segment for prices is formed in the corridor from 25 to 35 thousand - these are options that can provide an average noise protection of 32-36 dB.
