Meniscus treatment: principles and methods

Meniscus is conventionally considered a shock absorber of the knee joint, which allows you to maintain the flexibility of the knee and at the same time maintain it in tone. Meniscus can be conditionally divided into two parts - external and internal, which are divided among themselves by a transverse ligament. It is worth noting that the shock absorber of the knee often undergoes various kinds of injuries, and the healing of this zone takes too long because of weak blood supply. In any case, the treatment of the meniscus should be prescribed depending on the type of injury and the severity of the joint condition after trauma. Usually, the trauma of this zone includes the rupture of ligaments and surface damage, with the inner meniscus most often affected. Usually the question of how to treat the meniscus is set by professional athletes, as getting knee joint damage can be provided with a direct blow to the knee, which is typical for football players, as well as for gymnasts in case of an unsuccessful turn under the condition of a bent knee.

The most dangerous in damage to the meniscus is that along with it, the anterior cruciate ligament and the tibial lateral ligament are also damaged. Such a trauma is very common among athletes, runners, and after it may no longer be a complete recovery. An obligatory condition in any case is a diagnostic examination if the patient has had any complaints about the meniscus. He must be treated with strict medical supervision. In addition, in some cases, even surgery may be required, followed by rehabilitation rehabilitation. If the treatment of the meniscus did not occur due to the fact that it was not possible to diagnose the disease at the initial stage of its appearance, this does not mean that the disease will recede. Moreover, late manifestation of symptoms and missed treatment time threatens lameness and unbearable pain in the patella area.

Usually, for a full study of knee injury, it is customary to perform an MRI or CT scan, and if the injury is chronic, there will be a tissue rupture at the lesion in any case. Usually after an MRI, the patient is convinced of the need for an operation, in which the meniscus will be treated.

If we talk about the standard ways of healing knee joints, it is rarely what happens without surgical intervention. In this case, the operation is, as a rule, a sufficiently long procedure under local or epidural anesthesia. The rehabilitation period after the operative treatment of the meniscus has been completed, depends on the degree of damage to the knee joint. On average, rehabilitation is almost completed after two weeks, when the operated patient can move independently without any pain or discomfort. A more conservative method of treatment is also possible, if the damage is not too pronounced. It is carried out with the help of various ointments, mud masks, physiotherapy and massage.
