The drug "Galvus-Med" is an oral (for ingestion) hypoglycemic (reducing the concentration in the blood sugar) combined agent. Active components of the drug: metformin and vildagliptin.

The drug is prescribed for diabetes mellitus of the second degree (in combination with physical exercises and diet) with insufficient effectiveness of treatment separately metformin or vildagliptin, as well as patients who received previous therapy with these components in the form of monopreparations.

Combined use of active substances provides more effective control over the level of glucose in patients.

Medication is taken orally. The dosage regimen of "Galvus" is recommended by the instruction individually. In this case, the specialist takes into account portability and effectiveness. When using the drug Galvus, the instruction recommends not to exceed the maximum dosage of vildagliptin - 100 mg per day.

The initial amount of the drug taken is selected in accordance with the therapeutic regimens previously used in the patient. In order to reduce the severity of negative reactions from the digestive system, characteristic of metformin, the drug Galvus is taken with food.

In case of ineffectiveness of the previous monotherapy with vildagliptin, the initial dosage of the drug may be one tablet of 50/500 mg, twice a day. After evaluating the effectiveness of treatment, the dosage can be increased (gradually).

If monotherapy with metformin is ineffective, in accordance with its quantity, the preparation Galvus is prescribed in the amount of one tablet 50/1000 mg, 50/850 mg, 50/500 mg. Reception is recommended per day twice.

For patients who previously received a combination therapy of metformin and vildagliptin in the form of individual tablets (taking into account the dosages already taken), treatment with Galvus should be started with the tablet containing the maximum possible number of components. The dose adjustment is carried out in accordance with the manifested effect.

In connection with the fact that in elderly patients often a disorder of renal functions is detected, a medicinal product of this category of patients is prescribed in minimally effective doses. If you need to use the drug in people over the age of sixty-five years should provide continuous monitoring of kidneys.

To date, there is no clinical evidence for the efficacy and safety of Galvus in patients under the age of eighteen. In this regard, the appointment of this category of patients is not recommended.

Side effects when taking the drug may be associated with the use of a combination of active ingredients.

Patients may feel dizzy, headache, tremor. The drug "Galvus" (reviews of some specialists testify to this) are generally tolerated by patients well.

Contraindicated drug in disorders of kidney function, kidney failure, acute conditions, with the probability of dehydration, fever, hypoxia, infectious diseases of severe course.

Do not prescribe a medicine "Galvus" with acute myocardial infarction, lactic acidosis (including, in the anamnesis), diabetes mellitus of the first degree, acute poisoning with alcohol or chronic alcoholism. The drug is not recommended for two days before surgery, radiologic, radioisotope study with contrast agents, within two days after the above events.

Contraindicated medication in lactation, pregnancy.
