Meadow core: useful properties of the plant

The meadow core plant belongs to perennial grasses from the cabbage family. In the common people it is called a hawk, a white flower, a resin, an undergrowth, a marshy zheruha. The plant is spread on the Eurasian continent. In many areas it has a different name - the field mustard.

Most often, this grass can be found on the territory of Europe and in the eastern regions of Asia. In Russia, it grows throughout the central part, preferring a temperate climate and moist soils. A flower with lilac flowers adorns the banks of rivers, lakes and reservoirs. The hollow stem of the grass in height can reach from 30 to 80 cm. The flowering period is in August. Inflorescences of plants can have a different color - from white to violet.

Chemical composition of the meadow core

Chemical components of plants are used by herbalists and phytotherapeutists as a medicine for many diseases. And the cooks add it to salads, soups, vinaigrettes. The above-ground part of it is rich in such elements:

  • ascorbic acid;
  • Thioglycosides;
  • Flavonoids;
  • Glycosides of kaempferol;
  • Quercetin.

Seeds are filled with fatty oils (22-36%), amino acids and minerals. Despite the list of positive qualities, the plant does not use official pharmacology. But in folk medicine, the grass has found its application.

Seven useful properties of a plant

Grass core meadow has a number of useful properties, so it is used:

  1. To improve immunity. The plant, having a high content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), has a tonic effect on the human body, excluding the degenerative mutation of its cells. Infusions of grass strengthen immune forces. Increases the ability of the body to resist all sorts of viral and bacterial infections.
  2. How to help digestion. The plant improves the work of the digestive tract, eliminates excessive gas formation, swelling. Extracts of grass stimulate digestive processes, relieve spasms and constipation.
  3. In diseases of the respiratory tract. Warm tea with the addition of a pinch of dry plant will have an antispasmodic and expectorant effect, contributing to the relief of breathing during the season of colds.
  4. To improve kidney function. The meadow core in the form of infusions has a diuretic effect. This quality helps to remove toxins and fats from the body, normalizing metabolic processes and protecting it from aging.
  5. To strengthen the walls of blood vessels. Controlling the cholesterol content in the blood can reduce the likelihood of developing such diseases as stroke and heart attack. Extracts of the plant, strengthening the walls of blood vessels, prevent the formation of harmful deposits on them.
  6. As a preventive measure of blood diseases. Mustard field in folk medicine is considered a grass that can purify the composition of blood, improving hemopoiesis. No wonder it is called a meadow core.
  7. To improve metabolism. Tinctures of herbs are used for signs of scurvy. The presence in the chemical composition of the plant vitamin B9 makes it possible to use it as a means to prevent the manifestation of anemia, restoring body strength and resistance to microbes and bacteria.

Contraindications

Despite the list of positive properties, the meadow core has certain contraindications:

  • Individual intolerance to plant components.
  • It is not recommended to take grass to pregnant women who are nursing women.
  • People suffering from exacerbation of diseases of the stomach, liver and kidneys, the grass can bring harm.

Interesting facts about the plant

Firstly, there are more than 100 species of this plant on earth. Secondly, back in the 18th century, the meadow core, thanks to its properties, was used by folk healers to treat various ailments. Thirdly, pre-dried raw grass can be stored for a year, preparing from it tinctures. But it is important to remember: drying is best done in the shaded area, and direct sunlight should not fall on the plant.

In the old days, the girls felt that the meadow heart is assisted in love. They collected flowers in bouquets and decorated them with houses. Today, dried buds treat epileptic seizures in children. And gardeners and truck farmers cultivate the plant, using its leaves as a substitute for pepper in canning. Simultaneously, beekeepers and beekeepers value flowering herbs as honey. The plant is also used in agriculture: it goes to feed large livestock. Not suitable only for horse feed.
