Processor E-450: AMD continues to develop entry-level processors for notebooks

An excellent processor for organizing an entry-level laptop with a very, very productive graphics card, by the standards of the budget segment, is the E-450. AMD in this case really offers a worthy alternative to the products of the competing firm "Intel", but the cost in this case will be significantly less.

Another important nuance is that the physical socket is absent in this case and the processor is directly disconnected on the motherboard. The RAM controller, as in most competing silicon products, is integrated into the AMD Dual Core E450. Its characteristics indicate that it can function only in single-channel mode. The recommended frequencies of the RAM modules in this case are 1066 MHz or 1333 MHz. You can also install in a similar mobile computer and faster speed strips, but their frequency will decrease to the maximum possible 1333 MHz. The memory type in this case is the most common DDR3 to date.

Thermal nuances of the processor solution

18 W - this is the heat package that the E-450 has. AMD does not use various energy-efficient technologies in this semiconductor chip, which can reduce the power consumption of the processor. It should also be noted that the technological process used in the production of this silicon solution is far from advanced. Let's add to this the integration of the graphics card and the memory controller into the CPU. Against this background, a thermal package of 18 watts really looks impressive. In turn, according to technical specifications on the official website of the manufacturer, the maximum permissible temperature for this CPU is 105 0 С.

Frequency

The nominal clock frequency of this chip is 1.67 GHz. Additional such technologies that would regulate the value of the CPU frequency depending on its temperature or on the degree of complexity of the task being solved are, in this case, not provided. And there is no special sense in the presence of such complex technologies: the E-450 processor solution belongs to the entry-level segment and has a minimum level of performance that is just enough to solve the simplest tasks. Among other important features of this semiconductor solution, we can note the possibility of overclocking. According to feedback, this processor can be overclocked without any problems to 2-2.2 GHz. The question of the expediency of such an action remains open: an additional 25% of the performance on average or the load on the PC cooling system, its possible breakdown. The risk in this case entirely lies on the shoulders of the PC owner.

Graphic component

Of course, the strong side is the built-in graphics card for any AMD E chip. The E450 processor model in this regard is no exception. It is equipped with an accelerator Radeon HD model 6320. It includes 80 streaming units for processing graphic information and can change its frequency dynamically in the range from 508 MHz to 600 MHz. The level of performance in this case is several times better than that of the competing platform in the person of ATOM from Intel, which was equipped with a graphics accelerator GMA 3150 with more modest technical parameters.

Results

An excellent processor for the organization of an entry-level laptop turned out to be the E-450. AMD really gave a decent answer to "Intel". At least in the segment of entry-level products and at a very democratic cost.
