Magnesite Plate. Recommendations for Work

Magnesite plate (it is also glass-magnesium or glass-magnesite sheet) for today is a very common position from the category of sheet finishing building materials for external and internal works. The uniqueness of the material characteristics (flammability, fire resistance, structural strength, environmental friendliness, versatility, simplicity in operation) make its application justified in an increasing number of directions when finishing works on construction sites, during repairs and reconstructions of office, residential and industrial facilities.

Let us dwell on some features of mounting magnesite plate.

Mounting magnesite plate is made using the same technology as the installation of gypsum boards.

When mounting the magnesite board, it is recommended to remember the following points:

  • The magnesite plate must be dry at the time of installation.
  • When installing in the cold season before installation, the magnesite board should be placed in a heated room and there be sufficient time for the material to acquire the ambient temperature, only then work with the material is allowed.
  • When using magnesite slabs in the installation of ventilated facades , a plate with a density of at least 1000 kg / m3 should be used. Subsequent coloring of such a slab should be done with facade acrylic or other breathable paints.
  • When installing a magnesite plate, the recommended technological gap between the sheets should be half the thickness of the sheet.
  • Fastening magnesite plate is most convenient for self-tapping screws on the inside of the head for self-marking and with a two-threaded thread.
  • The magnesite plate is cut on an even, hard surface, placing the plate face up. For these purposes it is best to use a jigsaw. If there is no jigsaw, the operation can be performed using a construction knife: use a long metal ruler to make a deep knife with a knife and break the sheet in the direction opposite to the notch. After that, the edges can be sanded with a large sandpaper.
  • Places of fastening of self-tapping screws and technological clearances between plates should be puttied with fillers on acrylic, silicone or cement basis. After grouting the structure must be primed and treated with hydrophobic impregnation.

It is not recommended to paint the magnesite slab with waterproof paints. Magnesite plate as a "breathing" material when absorbing moisture from the air at the time of its recoil when dried will "undermine" the paint from the plate. It is best to use vapor-permeable paint to color the magnesite plate. Recommended are facade water-based or bulk elastomeric paints. The advantage of the latter is that they restrain microcracks up to 2 mm and hide minor irregularities.
