Let's talk about the verbs: "lay down" or "put" - how right?

For some reason, in Russian there are two stumbling blocks - the words: "lay" and "lie down". Let's try to figure out how to speak correctly, at the same time remembering the species forms of the verb. Yes, yes, they will help us understand: "lay down" or "put" - how right?

On the perfect and imperfect form of the verb

In our language, each verb refers to the perfect species (which answers the question "what to do?") Or the imperfect (which answers the question "what to do?"). They form species pairs, and the root of the verbs entering there, as a rule, is one:

(What to do?) To teach - (what to do?) To learn ,

(What to do?) To hang - (what to do?) To hang , etc.

But you understand that in the Russian language everything is not so simple, there are always exceptions:

(What to do?) To take - (what to do?) To take ,

(What to do?) To look for - (what to do?) To find,

(What to do?) To catch - (what to do?) To catch .

For a Russian speaker, they are not particularly difficult, except for a couple of "wise" representatives of this part of the speech: " put" and " put . " How correctly to say: "lay" or "lay down"? For some reason many people try to use the non-existent instead of the legal imperfect form of the verb. There is no "lie down" in Russian!

So, " Lie down "or" Put "- how right?

The fact is that in most of the discussions on this topic the answer is unambiguous: "The root-it can not be used without a prefix!" It is suggested to memorize the following words that have a given root and the right to exist: lay, lay, lay, attach, shift, lay etc. And without a prefix: I put, puts, laid, put , etc.

But this is only partly true. The fact is that if you talk like that, you'll have to say: "lay out" or "lay", although everyone knows the correct form of these verbs: lay out, lay down .

It is the knowledge of the fact that the root-is the accessory of the perfect form of the verb, will help to use it correctly. The verbs that we gave above belong to the imperfect form, and this form can only be conveyed by the verb: to put .

"Putting" or "laying down" - how right?

But many people heard the words of the song: "The snow lies down and melts, and melts ..." How, then, is the imperfect form of the verb, and the root-the-lies? The fact is that our mysterious couple: put and put - again offers challenges. If we have a return form before us (that is, one that ends with us), then the root is used in it. For example: " She lies in a clean bed " .

Although there is a return form of the verb "put": "Here everything is put in one pile." How to be? So " lie down" or "put" - how correctly to say in the return form? It turns out that we must also remember the voice of this verb. In the first sentence, the verb of the real voice ( it falls on the snow itself, it falls down itself). And in the second case it is a passive voice: everything is put by someone.

So, before you say ending "lie down" or "put", what is the right way to do? It is necessary to remember that something does the object itself (that is, the root is-is-) or produces an action with it (that is, the root-input).

And finally

There is another, perhaps, easier way to understand how to speak correctly in each individual case. To do this, remember that the root - the lodge - is used in the meaning of something that is on top of the surface. After all, the word "bed" is a surface for lying. A root - a treasure - usually means what is inside. Remember, we dig a treasure from the bowels of the earth. So when you want to talk about what will be on top, you will use the root - the lies . And if something is said about what will be inside, it will sound - a treasure . Like this!
