At first glance, it may seem that the Polish town of Legnica is an ordinary provincial center. However, this impression is deceptive. Castle Piastow (Poland)
The castle of Piastov resisted the Tatar-Mongol raids that were committed on Legnica since 1241. Since that period, the fortress passed into the possession of the Piast gentlemen, who were members of the family of rulers of the Silesian region. This genus was interrupted in 1675, after which the Austrian monarchs became the new masters of the castle.
During the Second World War, Piastov's castle was destroyed as a result of artillery strikes by the Red Army. The fortifications were rebuilt in 1969, after which the facility was transferred to the care of the Ministry of Education. Today, the architectural monument looks like one of the most attractive places for tourists who come to Legnica.
City Park
The history of the city park Legnica begins with the XIV century. Its founder is the Polish prince Boleslav III. It was he who received the right to own these lands in 1316, after which he decided to plant a picturesque grove here. Later in the park there were so-called labyrinths of trees.
In 1811, a natural spring with healing water was discovered in the park. Today, above it rises the pavilion, where health procedures are held.
At the end of the 19th century, a man-made pond with water lilies was set up on the park territory, which was immediately chosen by the locals. Each year the pond is inhabited by flocks of waterfowl.
Today, the central city park of Legnica provides a wide range of secluded scenic spots to visitors, where you can relax on benches in a relaxed atmosphere, admire the architectural sculptures, recharge the energy of nature. There are also children's, sports and entertainment grounds, a whole mass of paths laid for runners and cyclists.
Cathedral
In the XIV century, the building underwent reconstruction. During the work the church was significantly expanded. As a result, Legnica (Poland) received a massive cathedral of impressive height, which was consecrated by the names of the martyrs Paul and Peter.
The outer walls of the structure are decorated with numerous bas-reliefs. In particular, on the north side of the cathedral there is an image of the bow of the kings to the little Jesus, which is an extremely rare story for buildings that are decorated in the Gothic style.
The Tower of Glogovskaya
At the end of the 19th century, the upper platform of the Głogów Tower was covered with a four-tiled roof tile. In the thickness of the building was formed an opening through which the carriages began to pass. In other respects, the design and architecture of the structure remained virtually untouched.
Copper Museum
The cozy town of Legnica (Poland) is famous for its unique museum complex, the exposition of which is represented by products made of copper from different eras. Today, the audience is invited to order about 30,000 items that have historical value. The exhibits are concentrated in an old building, decorated in the Baroque style. The museum has several branches located outside the city.
Legnica (Poland): how to get there?
There is no direct route from Moscow to Legnica. The most convenient way to get here is from Warsaw, Katowice, Wroclaw, Dresden, Berlin, Frankfurt. The town is located in the south-west of Poland. To get here from Warsaw, it is necessary to overcome the order of 440 km. The distance from Krakow is 329 km.
If it is decided to go to Legnica from Warsaw, the most favorable decision is the purchase of a train ticket. In this case, you will have to make a transfer in Wrocław. The very same way the train takes about 8-10 hours. The fare will not be more than 30 dollars.
Every 2 hours, trains from Krakow go to Legnica. In this case, you will also need to make a transfer in the city of Wroclaw. Travel time for this option will not be more than 5 hours. For travel it is necessary to pay about 17-20 dollars.
As for traveling by plane, the nearest airport to Legnica is located in the same Wrocław. It is based on the airline RyanAir, whose liners provide flights inside the country. If you follow to Wroclaw airport from Warsaw, the cost of the flight will be from 55 to 80 dollars, depending on the class of seats.
Much closer from Legnica to Berlin - about 290 km. This distance can be overcome both by airplane and by bus. The latter option does not look very comfortable, as the chair will have to spend a whole day, and also stand for a couple of hours on the border between the two states.
