At first glance, it may seem that the Polish town of Legnica is an ordinary provincial center. However, this impression is deceptive. The town of Legnica (Poland), whose photo is presented in the material, is famous for its numerous cultural and historical monuments. At present it is a modern, highly developed settlement that is worth visiting every self-respecting traveler.

Let's look at Legnica (Poland). Attractions of the city that deserve attention will be discussed in the article.

Castle Piastow (Poland)

G. Legnica is known primarily for the ancient castle of the Lords of the Piastas. A monumental building was erected in the distant 1149 and is included in the list of the oldest palaces on the territory of the country. The founder of the castle is Prince Heinrich, nicknamed the Bearded, who chose as a material for the construction of the fortress a natural stone. At that time it was considered an innovation, since the palaces were still built of wood.

The castle of Piastov resisted the Tatar-Mongol raids that were committed on Legnica since 1241. Since that period, the fortress passed into the possession of the Piast gentlemen, who were members of the family of rulers of the Silesian region. This genus was interrupted in 1675, after which the Austrian monarchs became the new masters of the castle.

During the Second World War, Piastov's castle was destroyed as a result of artillery strikes by the Red Army. The fortifications were rebuilt in 1969, after which the facility was transferred to the care of the Ministry of Education. Today, the architectural monument looks like one of the most attractive places for tourists who come to Legnica.

City Park

Legnica (Poland) is known for one of the largest parks in the country. It is located on the territory of about 58 hectares and is located almost in the center of the city.

The history of the city park Legnica begins with the XIV century. Its founder is the Polish prince Boleslav III. It was he who received the right to own these lands in 1316, after which he decided to plant a picturesque grove here. Later in the park there were so-called labyrinths of trees.

In 1811, a natural spring with healing water was discovered in the park. Today, above it rises the pavilion, where health procedures are held.

At the end of the 19th century, a man-made pond with water lilies was set up on the park territory, which was immediately chosen by the locals. Each year the pond is inhabited by flocks of waterfowl.

Today, the central city park of Legnica provides a wide range of secluded scenic spots to visitors, where you can relax on benches in a relaxed atmosphere, admire the architectural sculptures, recharge the energy of nature. There are also children's, sports and entertainment grounds, a whole mass of paths laid for runners and cyclists.

Cathedral

Legnica - Poland is rightly proud of the town - is famous for its monumental cathedral of the Apostles Paul and Peter. The building was erected in 1208, but to this day it is not known who is its architect.

In the XIV century, the building underwent reconstruction. During the work the church was significantly expanded. As a result, Legnica (Poland) received a massive cathedral of impressive height, which was consecrated by the names of the martyrs Paul and Peter.

The outer walls of the structure are decorated with numerous bas-reliefs. In particular, on the north side of the cathedral there is an image of the bow of the kings to the little Jesus, which is an extremely rare story for buildings that are decorated in the Gothic style.

The Tower of Glogovskaya

The structure is part of the fortifications that were located at the entrance gate to the city during the Middle Ages. Initially, the tower did not have an entrance passage, but was only used as an elevation for Legnica's defense. For this purpose, there were arranged railing rails with openings, through which the perimeter was monitored and the attackers were fired.

At the end of the 19th century, the upper platform of the Głogów Tower was covered with a four-tiled roof tile. In the thickness of the building was formed an opening through which the carriages began to pass. In other respects, the design and architecture of the structure remained virtually untouched.
