LED spotlights: classification, description, application

Recently, lighting of facades of buildings, tunnels and protected areas, lighting pools and fountains, you can often find such lighting devices as LED spotlights. Why do they gain so much popularity? What are their advantages and disadvantages? In this article we will try to answer these questions.

LED floodlights are able to work under all weather conditions: in heat and frost, under snow and rain; They are resistant to mechanical damage: shocks and falls; Able to work for many years with a minimum power consumption. In the modern world, the main item of expenditure is the cost of electricity. Due to the low consumption of electric current in searchlights, LEDs have gained immense popularity: now there is no need to deny yourself coverage of the infield, warehouse, industrial areas. You can implement any bold solutions for lighting the house, garage, shop windows or store signs.

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of projectors with LED lamps.

The advantages of such products include:

  • Low power consumption, 10 times lower than that of incandescent lamps, three times lower than energy-saving fluorescent lamps ;
  • Incredibly long service life - 11 years of continuous operation;
  • Absence of mercury, which makes these lamps environmentally friendly.

The drawbacks are:

  • high price;
  • The manufacturer declared the service life of 11 years, but the warranty period does not exceed five years - this is due to aging (degradation) of LEDs, first they lose their sharpness, and then completely go out;
  • To extend the life of the system, it is necessary to use cooling systems and power supplies that will protect the searchlight from voltage surges, which greatly increases the cost of such devices.

And what are LED floodlights? These devices are lighting equipment, they consist of a voltage converter, a reflector, a high -power LED lamp, an external radiator that provides heat dissipation.

LED spotlights are classified according to the following characteristics:

  • The protection level is: IP 65 - outdoor use, IP 44 - internal use, IP 68 - underwater, IP 67 - ground;
  • By designation: specialized (for the army - search, signal, concert, laser, etc.) and general applications;
  • By color (there are blue, red, yellow, green, white);
  • By configuration (with a square body, rectangular, linear, round);
  • On the voltage (12 V, 24 V, 220 V).

There is a modification - a LED spotlight with a sensor. They refer to short-range floodlights, they are used to illuminate the specified areas. They are interesting in that they do not burn constantly, but they only turn on when people, animals, objects appear in their zone of action and go out after a certain period of time. This is due to the built-in sensor, which reacts to movement. This mode of operation provides additional energy savings and extends the life of the device.
