STD-120M is a lathe for wood, designed to handle small items from different types of wood. The unit has advantageous features that distinguish it from its predecessor, that critical working areas are protected by fencing, equipped with local lighting. In addition, the main electrical circuit has been modernized, a system for reducing vibration and noise levels has been developed, and an installation for removing dust and chips has been developed by a mechanized method.

Appointment

The school lathe STD-120M is used for easy processing of wood by central interaction, using a face plate and cartridge, and also for the production of elementary drilling. Its functional includes the following:

  • Sharpening of cylindrical and profile rotating elements.
  • The ability to cut, round and cut pieces from different angles.
  • Perform the turning on the marked profile.
  • Drilling.
  • Processing of flat surfaces of diameter in an ornamental and profile plan using a faceplate.

In the current state STD-120M is given by starting an electric power plant. The motor is located on the left side of the unit. The torque is transmitted through the belt interaction. This process is facilitated by a pair of pulleys: the first is mounted on the motor shaft, the second is mounted on the spindle of the front headstock.

  • The high-speed rotation mode is converted by tossing the belt onto certain grooves of the shafts.
  • The control unit with buttons is located on the front headstock, which provides the most convenient access to control during operation.
  • Spindle-type nozzles can be changed, they are included in the standard equipment set.
  • The working area is protected by additional curtains with transparent windows.
  • Remove chips and other weeds by using an optional cleaning unit.

Increase the accuracy of ongoing operations allows special lighting, whose operation is monitored by a transformer of a down-type. The electrical interlocking of the belt drive design with the switch increases operational safety.

Unit headstock

This node of the turning unit STD-120M is used for mounting and fixing the workpiece with the subsequent transfer of its rotational moments. This element consists of a solid cast iron body of an open type. It has a pair of holes along the axes, serving for the placement of radial, spherical bearings.

The working spindle is a shaped shaft of steel, with a thread on the right for mounting a cartridge, washers and other special tools that fix and process the workpiece. At the left end, there is a two-stage pulley type drive, activated by a V-belt drive from the electric motor. On both sides of the headstock are hatches with felt padding material. Start and stop the spindle is carried out using a control unit located on the body.

Rear element

This part of the machine STD-120M provides support for the maintenance of long products, as well as fastening the cartridge, directly drills and other tools. The rear element of the device consists of a skeleton and a quill that slides along the guide grooves of the body.

From one side of the movable sleeve there is provided a hole adjusted for the cone, where the rear stop, cartridge or drill with the appropriate end is placed. From the opposite side, by means of pressing, a bushing having an internal thread is inserted. The adjusting screw ensures easy movement of the quill and protects it from rotation around its own axis.

The torque redistribution element is combined with a threaded bushing, at one end of which there is a flywheel fixed with a nut. Fastening of the pinol in the required position is carried out by the clamping handle. Fixation of the tailstock is performed with the help of a nut, a biscuit (washer) and a bolt. Special lubrication holes are provided for the lubrication of working elements in the housing.

Basic and removable devices

The wood machine STD-120M is equipped with several basic elements, namely:

  1. A trident that serves to secure the workpiece. It has a cone shape at one end, identical to the spindle. The second edge of the element is made in the form of a fork with three teeth. The workpiece is fixed by placing the intended groove directly into the trident, after which the second end is clamped in the tailstock quill.
  2. The cup cartridge, which is a part having on one side a cylindrical interior, and on the other - a conical shank serving for installation in the spindle part of the frontal headstock. The round side of the workpiece is densely placed in the cartridge cavity or clamped with bolts.
  3. If the workpiece has a multi-faceted shape, a chuck is used.
  4. In addition, the lathe STD-120M can be equipped with cartridges with three or four cams. They serve to secure parts for the outer part. Self-centering elements have independent cam movement, which allows to speed up the processing and increase its efficiency.

Electrical equipment and technical parameters

Regarding the electrical equipment of the lathe, it can be noted that there is a connection to an alternating current network with three phases (380 V) with neutral, which is tightly grounded. In the switch cabinet there is also a lighting transformer.

Operational Features

The lathe on wood СТД-120М does not belong to the category of professional equipment, its main purpose is to acquaint students with the basics of the turner's work. He is subjected to increased security measures.

To ensure the stability of the tool, it is better to make the base steel or concrete. Its height should be at least 60 centimeters.

In addition, it should take into account some operational features:

  • The workpiece of wood should be free from cracks and knots.
  • Humidity of the part is allowed not more than 20 percent.
  • Large elements must be processed at the minimum speed mode.
  • At least once a year or after five hundred hours of operation, you need to lubricate the moving parts, check the equipment for deformation and malfunctions.

Before carrying out repair work and servicing the machine, you should study its device, and also read the instruction manual in detail.
