The Kuban is known not only for its natural diversity, but also for the wealth of institutions of cultural significance, among which an important place is occupied by regional and local museums of various orientations. Among the most famous - the art museum Kovalenko, who in the Soviet times bore the name of A. V. Lunacharsky.

History of the foundation of the museum Kovalenko

The founder of the museum is merchant Fedor Akimovitch Kovalenko. In addition to trade, he was engaged in collecting paintings and patronage of art.

In 1904, he donated a collection of works of art collected by him to the city, which, for the most part, included paintings by famous Russian masters. It formed the basis for the permanent exhibition of the new museum, which opened in the house of Batyrbek Shardanov, a well-known Ekaterinburg engineer.

In Soviet times, the museum was donated works of painting by many famous Russian artists. The action was attended by such major museums as the Hermitage, the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, etc. And on the 100th anniversary of the museum was a complete restoration of the historic building.

Main exposition

The exposition of the museum Kovalenko now consists of several groups of artifacts, which can be divided according to the types of art: painting, arts and crafts, iconography. The collection includes works not only of Russian, but also of famous Western European artists.

In the halls of the museum named after Kovalenko there are ceremonial portraits of the XVIII century, paintings of the Renaissance, paintings written in the spirit of artistic realism and postmodernism, works of the Wanderers and the beginning of the 20th century. And the Old Russian icon painting is represented by works of Novgorod, Moscow and northern masters. There are canvases of representatives of the avant-garde cult art.

Now in the collection of the museum there are about 12 thousand exhibits. And the institution itself is on the list of the ten best Russian art museums.

The modern life of the museum Kovalenko

Modern museums respond very vividly to new cultural trends in society. Most of them actively joined in interactive and educational activities. So, the museum not only has a permanent exposition and organizes temporary thematic exhibitions. In the Kovalenko Museum, in April, "Biblenoch" is held.

This year "Biblioch" was held on April 24 from 20.00 to 00.00. As part of the event, there were exhibitions from the private collection of the artist Alexander Novichenko "Russian Etude", an exhibition of children's drawings "Nature I'm breathing and I live," master classes on the traditional toy "In Each Hut, Its Rattles" and "The Art of Repetition", as well as interactive media lecture "Artists of the Kuban on the native nature." All the events of the "Bibliotechnics" were devoted to the beginning of the Year of Ecology in Russia and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Krasnodar Territory. Anyone who wanted to attend the event could free of charge.

In addition, on the second floor of the museum there is a computer classroom and a multimedia cinema where classes for children and adults are held according to the latest methods developed by the Russian Center for Museum Pedagogy and Children's Creativity. Visitors are introduced to the State Russian Museum: its history, exposition and exhibitions that take place within its walls and the walls of its branches.

The Kovalenko Art Museum is located in Krasnodar at 13-15 Krasnaya Street.

The house of the engineer is the main building of the museum

The engineer of communications Yekaterinodar Batyrbek Shardanov built on the Red street for himself a mansion, which became a valuable monument of local architecture of the XIX century. Shardanov himself became the author of the project, as the sum of 60 thousand rubles, which was available for construction at the time, was available only to rich aristocrats, provided not only the status of the structure, but also its comfort for the residents, one of whom was Batyrbek himself. His preferences he knew like no other.

The house was built out of the best brick in the city on a specially purchased plot, on the site of a demolished dilapidated building. The identical buildings of the structure were symmetrically decorated with rizalites, richly decorated with stucco, bay windows, pediments and attics, as well as Gothic elements - pinnacles, delicate balustrades, helmet dome and weathercock. Among the motifs of stucco decorations, one can note winged lions, an image of a star and a crescent moon made in the form of a medallion, vases. The roof of the building has a coating resembling a fish scales.

The structure is made in eclectic style and looks very elegant against the background of the surrounding cityscape.

The building of the Ekaterinodar bank office is an architectural monument

The place on the central street of the city for this institution was determined not by accident. The street was specially built up so that it could be erected on this site in a worthy frame. The author of the project, realized in 1902-1903, was IK Malgerb. Built in neoclassical style, the two-story structure makes as if a step back from the red line.

The light blue facade is decorated with a modest snow-white decor in the form of rustovka first floor, attic and entrance portal with a triangular pediment. Simple casings of rectangular windows on top crowned stones. And the center of the second and third floors unites the element in the form of an antique warrant, but instead of pillars the entablature supports the pilasters. The lower row of windows resembles an openwork arcade. The building is topped by a rectangular attic. The front facades at the level of the third floor are decorated with blind windows and a central narrow rizalite, the second and third floor of which is cut by a narrow arch-shaped window.
