Decorative plaster "coat": description, application, application technology, tools

It is worth noting that the decorative plaster "coat" is familiar to almost everyone. It is only the name of this finishing material that is intricate, but it has been used in construction for quite some time - you can see it even on buildings erected not one decade ago. True, then it was a classic "samopal": masters mixed in certain proportions cement and sand and threw it on the walls of the facades of houses. As a result, although the walls acquired a textured appearance, they still represented a rather dull sight, causing sadness in a disgusting gray color. By the way, even today some masters still, in their eternal desire to save money, try to make such a solution independently for finishing houses or personal buildings. And completely in vain. Available at the moment for sale in each store dry decorative plaster "coat" is an absolutely inexpensive finishing material, which at the same time, in contrast to home-made, quite acceptable performance. True, on the shelves you can see not only dry mixes. There are already completely ready-to-use solutions, packaged in buckets. Such textured decorative plaster will cost much more. However, it has a slightly different composition and improved characteristics. However, we will not run ahead, but we better consider in more detail the types of "fur coats" offered by the construction market.

Types of plaster

Strictly speaking, why is it called a fur coat? Because after the application on the wall there is an invoice coating, not smooth, but something resembling a fur. And all due to the fact that the composition of the usual plaster mixture added filler - a small ground natural stone. From its dimensions, which are called fractions, the appearance of the finish depends. That is, the larger the fraction, the more impressive is the finish coat. As we already mentioned, the decorative plaster "fur coat" is produced in the form of dry mixtures, which must be diluted with water. Such a composition has a white or gray color and has one essential drawback - it attracts dust and all sorts of dirt very much. But it is inexpensive, so it is most often used for exterior decoration, when you need to process large areas. In addition, the "coat" made by such a mixture can be painted in any color.

Ready-made mortar, sold in buckets, contains in its composition additional synthetic polymers. Due to this, this mixture is more elastic and has good strength characteristics. Can be either white or gray, or colored. The composition is quite expensive, so most often it is used for interior finishing of premises. With the aim of all the same savings.

Application

Textured decorative plaster is used to create a finish coat. And it is equally well suited for both facades of buildings, that is, exterior works, and for interior decoration. With its help, you can get a very beautiful relief coating, which will decorate the walls of any room. In addition, it is often used for finishing individual elements of the interior, for example, arches, curbs. In general, having got into skilful hands, this relatively inexpensive material can do wonders. In addition to a very attractive appearance, such coverage also has a number of other positive characteristics, which should be discussed in more detail.

Advantages of "fur coat"

Yet it is not without reason that it bears such a name. This finishing material protects the surface just like the coat of our body, from the cold. That is, it has excellent thermal insulation properties. In addition, it protects the walls from the effects of destructive atmospheric phenomena. Characterized by excellent soundproofing qualities. Damaged parts of it are easily amenable to restoration. Easy to use, so you can finish the decoration yourself. Excellent conceals surface defects, because of which the preparatory work does not take much time. As we have already mentioned, it is rather cheap material. And, of course, we can not discount the excellent aesthetic characteristics that this textured plaster possesses. The photos presented in the article, by the way, eloquently testify that in this respect it is really on top.

Well, after all the dithyrambs that we sang to this excellent finishing material in all respects, many house masters will probably want to use it in practice. How to do it - we'll talk further. And we will try to do it as much as possible in detail.

Preparation

As we have already mentioned, the preparatory work before the plastering with a "coat" does not take much time and is not particularly tedious. If you plan to trim the facade of a new building, it is enough just to primer the surface and allow it to dry. If the house is not new, the walls should be carefully inspected and all the cracks and defects should be covered with the usual mortar. Then also primed surface. In those cases where it is planned to carry out interior finishing work , the walls must be thoroughly cleaned of old materials - wallpaper, paint, whitewash. Cracks and defects are also recommended to be repaired. No spackling work is not necessary. The granular texture will hide under itself all minor roughnesses and scratches. But the surface must be primed. After the composition has dried, you can start finishing work.

Instruments

Decorative plaster "coat" is applied to the walls in several ways. Therefore, the toolkit for them will need appropriate. Depending on the chosen method, the master must have: an invoice roller, a spatula and a trowel, a hand sprayer, a stationary compressor and ... a broom and a stick. The last kind of "toolkit" was once used by our grandfathers; nevertheless, even today, despite the availability of perfect technologies, some masters sometimes apply it. Of course, splash with the help of a broom and a stick all the facade of the cottage is unlikely to occur to anyone, but for the sake of finishing a small area behind a stationary compressor, too, no one will run. So in small squares this method can be used. About him and everyone else - more in detail.

Important!

If it is decided to use the dry composition, which should be diluted with water, then several important rules should be kept in mind. First, as we said, the mixture contains small fractions of natural stone. And, as a rule, during the storage and transportation of plaster, all these heavy pieces move down to the bottom of the package. Therefore, before mixing, it is very important not to forget to carefully mix the entire contents of the bag.

Secondly, the technology of work also requires compliance with certain rules. "Fur coat" on the walls should be applied without interruption. That is, roughly speaking, in one sitting you need to trim the entire surface from one corner to the other. Therefore, it is best to work with an assistant to always have a ready solution for the "coat". Because if you are distracted by its kneading, then the surface will remain visible transition between the previous and the next layer.

Next - more about each method of decoration.

Spatula + trowel

With this method of finishing, first put a layer of plaster on the spatula, then it is leveled with a trowel. Movement it may be both circular, and back-to-back. The final appearance of the finish depends on the chosen method. Usually the area is no more than one square square at a time, in addition, it must be ensured that the applied layer corresponds in its thickness to the size of the fractions of the mixture used. With the alignment process, you do not need to tarry. It should be started immediately, as soon as a layer of decorative plaster is applied. This is especially true when using ready mixes that grasp fast enough.

Roller

There are two possible uses. With more simple textured decorative plaster is applied using the same technology as paint. The mixture is diluted with water to a liquid sour cream, then dipped into it a roller with a long pile and literally stained with a wall.

In the second way, the plaster is applied to the wall with a spatula, and then it is leveled with an invoice roller. Here it is necessary to observe the same requirements as for the application of a trowel.

Ancient way

We make a broom from a twig, dip it into a previously prepared solution, then spray it on the surface, hitting the base of the broom with a stick. I must say that the method simply shocks its economy, however it is good only for finishing small areas, because, firstly, it is labor-intensive, and secondly, the coverage has not a very neat appearance. Nevertheless, the basement of the basement at the dacha can be trimmed with its help. Moreover, if you apply wit, then the decorative cover can be refined. For example, align the same roller.

Sprinkler

This is such a kind of machine for the "coat", which experts affectionately called barrel organ. In a container resembling a small suitcase and equipped with rotating plates, a plaster solution is poured, after which the master places it with a hole to the surface to be removed and begins to turn the handle. The plates come into play and spray the solution through the wall. I must say that this method is already semi-professional. "Sharmanka" can also be purchased in a construction shop.

Compressor

When the "coat" is painted facade, no roller-hurdy-gurdy cans will save, let alone brooms. Large outdoor areas of houses, the more having several floors, can be qualitatively finished only using special devices. In this case it is a compressor. Such an aggregate is quite expensive, but the finishing made with its help is of high quality and has an excellent appearance. So, if you need to plaster the entire facade of the house, then it's best to turn to professionals. Well, or take, at worst, a compressor for rent.

A few words about coloring

As we have already mentioned, most masters usually use white or gray colors such finishing material as textured plaster. The photos presented in the review, allow to see, how much more favorably the facade of the building painted in bright shades looks. Yes, of course, you can buy already shaken ready mix, but it will cost much more than gray-white. Most often, in order to improve the surface of the facade, the masters simply paint it after finishing in any color you like. The option is not bad, but it has several drawbacks. First, under the influence of the sun and moisture, the painted surface will certainly lose its original attractiveness. Secondly, when defects appear on the facade (which is inevitable), the true color of the finish will be seen on the chips. All the same white or gray. Therefore, professionals strongly recommend adding pigment directly to the plaster itself, while mixing the solution. And then the "coat" applied to the facade will delight you for many years with its attractive appearance.
