This plant belongs to the ginger family, its home is the Chinese island of Hainan. And it was from China that he came to us in Russia, and then spread to Europe. There, for a long time, this plant was called the "Russian root". Kolganov root looks like ginger in its appearance, and the upper part of the plant is very similar to reeds. Its shoots in length reach one and a half meters, and the width of the leaves is about thirty centimeters. Initially, the Kolgan root was used as a seasoning. It was added to mead, sbittni, jelly, gingerbread, etc. In China it is the basis of the popular first dish "Tom Yam". For medical purposes, a plant that has reached the age of five is used. The roots are excavated, carefully washed, peeled and cut into longitudinal strips. Then it is dried in the sun. The finished root is very wrinkled. The color of the dried colgan is dark brown with a red tint, and the pulp is a bright orange hue. Why is this root so valuable?

Colgan: properties and chemical composition

Its composition includes starch, thiamine, gum, flavonoids, camferin, essential oil, which contains cineole and eugenol. On the anti-inflammatory properties of Kolgan, the root is not inferior to penicillin and aspirin. But how to use it?

In addition to the anti-inflammatory effect, this plant is known for its haemostatic, expectorant and soothing properties. Kolganov root is effective in treating many diseases of the liver: cholecystitis and inflammation of the biliary tract. It is also successfully used in the treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers. Ointments prepared on the basis of this plant help to cope with frostbite, fissures and eczema. With purulent, long-healing wounds use lotions with a decoction of it. Still kolganov root is used as an auxiliary tool in the treatment of tuberculosis. It is worth noting that very often use the so-called "clone" Kolgan - a plant that is very similar in appearance to it. It is also called "wild kolganom" or "colgan grass". Kolganov root: contraindications

This plant has some contraindications for use.
