Jumps in height by way of stepping over. History of development and technique of implementation

Since ancient times, people have always moved and sought to overcome obstacles that they encountered along the way. Later, when they learned how to tame animals, difficult sections of the road could be surmounted by riding an elephant or a horse. But to test their capabilities in overcoming obstacles people found different ways. So there were gymnastic exercises. Jumping with time passed into separate disciplines of the Queen of Sports.

Consider one of the directions in athletics - high jump by way of stepping over (in the people still called "scissors"). It appeared in a natural way, when a person faced a low obstacle, not exceeding his center of gravity. Then it is enough to raise one leg and rearrange it for an obstacle, and pick up the other leg in the same way. But if the barrier is above the center of gravity, then it will not be possible to step over it so easily from the spot. You need to apply the jump. And the higher the obstacle, the more repulsion should be. If you still raise the bar, then you must already apply the take-off, so as not to hover over the obstacle (or not to break the barrier in the current conditions of the competition). For this, the athlete must have certain skills to overcome obstacles that far exceed his center of gravity and physical growth.

History of the development of discipline

Since the technique of high jump by way of "stepping over" is the simplest, then, accordingly, the result of a jump in this way will not be too high. The first recorded record in the official competition in England in 1868 was 1 meter 67.4 centimeters. He belonged to the jumper Robert Meich. But officially the first world record was recorded in the biography of the London medical student Robert Gooch. His result was 1 meter 70 centimeters. The peculiarity of his style and technique of jumping differed from his predecessors. Gooch flew not directly to the bar, as did all the other athletes (even now Kenyan tribes do so, reaching breathtaking results of about two meters), he made a take-off at an acute angle to the bar and the movement of his legs in the moment of overcoming the bar were similar to scissors.

In such a simple way athletes brought the world record in 1937 to 2.09 m. Women using the same technique achieved in the 60 years of the result of 191 cm. He belonged to Yolande Balash. Later the method was modified, and it was called "wave", then "roll" and "flip-flop".

World Records Councils

Jumps in height by way of stepping are easy in execution and do not require expensive equipment. This discipline is popular among young inexperienced athletes, school children and health section visitors.

How to achieve good results using this technique in high jump? It is important to give time to warm-up. Run must be before every activity. A huge role is played by stretching. Special exercises for stretching muscles will greatly facilitate training. It is also important for beginning athletes to learn how to land correctly. Do not quickly overestimate the height of the bar for beginners in order to avoid injuries.

As it was mentioned before, high jump by way of stepping out requires special training, which takes place in the following stages:

  • The run.
  • Stretching.
  • Makhi in the legs with his feet, standing at the Swedish wall or just holding on to some kind of handrail. The exercise can be performed in pairs.

Correct execution of a jump in height by a way "stepping over"

The jump itself consists of the following phases:

  • Take-off;
  • Preparation for repulsion;
  • repulsion;
  • Overcoming the bar;
  • landing.

There are two ways to take a run-in a straight line to the bar and at an angle. The student should be given the opportunity at low altitude to try these two methods, so that he chooses a more convenient technique and further developed in it. There are the following elements of high jump by the "stepping over" method.

Ways to perform the jump

In a simple technique, the flapping leg is carried over the bar bent, the jogging one quickly gets to it and is carried along with the whole body above the bar. In the method of "scissors" (take-off is carried out at an acute angle), repulsion is done before the bar. The trunk is in the lateral position to the obstacle, the arms are made simultaneously with a push upward to increase the moment of the rebound and maintain coordination in the phase of overcoming the bar and to the phase of completion of the jump. In the moment of landing, the first leg becomes the swing leg, then the jogging leg. The skill of a high jump is to translate the speed of the horizontal takeoff into a vertical flight. In this case, the center of gravity with the limbs must be balanced in such a way that they do not catch the bar themselves or prevent the flight through it of the body in the air.

Jumps in height by way of stepping up today are not particularly popular, however this remarkable technique will undoubtedly help beginners to achieve their first results.
