Is it true that one of Frank Sinatra's albums was dangerous?

Representatives of show business abuse the term "danger". This word is operated as often as the epithet "ingenious", and is used in relation to any artist who has a bad character. A creative person can be dangerous, because it is difficult for him to interview, and reporters never know that the capricious star will throw out the next moment. Some musicians do not drive their creativity into the certain limits of the genre, so their music is intended for the chosen circle and is completely incomprehensible to the general public.

One of the representatives

Frank Sinatra met the criteria of an unpredictable artist. He often had problems with controlling anger, as soon as he encountered the reporter's microphone (or worse, with the camera of the operator). However, his music was extremely clear and accessible to a simple listener. In his compositions he never aspired to analytical thought, but he invested his whole soul in them. So why was he considered a dangerous performer?

An impressive dossier at the FBI

The Federal Bureau of Investigation opened the file to Sinatra in 1940, as soon as the pop knocked on his door. In the end, it turned into a weighty volume of two thousand pages.

The image of a bad guy

His breakthrough contributed a lot to the ideal appearance for the artist. These penetrating blue eyes drove the women to frenzy. Sharp cheekbones and Italian roots made Sinatra look like an unprincipled gangster. They never refuted the rumors about him. However, the rumors of involvement in the Italian mafia were only to his advantage. He had such charisma that he forced the fans to faint at concerts, without making sexual movements with his hips.

He did not have to struggle. A soft and warm bass baritone enveloped the listener and almost put it in a trance. Sinatra with a lack of musical education, but an innate artistic and singing talent, very fortunate. With his arrival in the show business recording studios switched to electronic equipment. Now the musicians did not need to play side by side with the orchestra when recording a record, they no longer needed to compete directly with the tuba and saxophone.

The first scenic steps

In the 30s, the enchanting voice of Frank Sinatra instantly won the audience and became recognizable. Then the sound of the young artist looked like a revolutionary breakthrough. And his laconic image, it seemed, was thought through to the smallest detail. When the artist enters the stage singing songs about unhappy love, it seems he must have a clean soul and a noble heart. However, the pledge of popularity of Frank Sinatra was the ability to pull the soul of listeners inside out. It was this metamorphosis that happened with the artist's first big hit, recorded in collaboration with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra. They started touring, and already then the young artist had this daring gleam in his eyes. He was able to drive millions of viewers crazy, it's no surprise that the authorities became agitated.

Rumors about the termination of the contract with Tommy Dorsey

On the tour, Frank was spotted by producer George Evans. The trained eye of the agent could not be mistaken: investing in this impudent blue-eyed guy with a velvety voice will pay off several times. It remained only to convince him to start a solo career. According to rumors, the termination of the contract with Tommy Dorsey was more like a gangster showdown. The trombonist was surrounded by bad guys with weapons. And this is only one of the hard-hitting stories associated with Sinatra and his collaboration with the Mafia clans.

Why did Sinatra become interested in the authorities?

No, he was not caught red-handed for smuggling weapons or drugs. Friendship with criminal authorities is not a crime in itself. The authorities opened a dossier on Sinatra, fearing its colossal impact on the public. They had to know everything about him, otherwise he could become a dangerous independent unit. Nevertheless, the connection of the artist with organized crime is still hotly contested. Perhaps these rumors were nothing more than an advertising stunt of a competent promoter.

But anti-racist views and open interest in the liberal current were much more weighty arguments for replenishing the FBI dossier. Frank Sinatra had a friendship with the Kennedy family - that was what constituted a real threat to the authorities. They feared that the influence of the artist would grow into something threatening the policy of the United States. As you can see, the actor was by no means a good-natured fellow from the neighboring yard. He was in those doors, where mere mortals are not allowed to enter. He had an inner core, thanks to which Sinatra was able to climb to the top of Olympus.

He always inspired respect

In 1966, Esquire magazine published one of the best essays on the performer called "Frank Sinatra caught cold". In the reportage about the celebrity, they address him only as a "patron", which in the Sicilian dialect means "boss." And it was not a picture painting. The author of the essay spent three months with Sinatra, and he saw perfectly well how people treat him. Before us is not just an alpha male, well aware of his desire. He was always the most important person in the room by the unanimous consent of those present. He was an actor, performer, singer, he had many hypostases, but he always inspired respect and always got it. People esteemed the honor of meeting him.

Outcast

He changed his political views many times. Sinatru made the newly elected president John Kennedy look to the Republicans. The country's leader insulted his friend by going on Easter holidays to the singer and actor Bing Crosby. Frank thoroughly prepared for the reception, which did not take place. Sinatra invested a lot of money in modernizing his own house, including the construction of a helipad and a guest house that can accommodate 40 people. When the president at the last moment canceled the visit, our hero was furious. He personally smashed the newly constructed objects with a sledgehammer. However, despite the experience of humiliation, Sinatra never mentioned a bad word about Kennedy.

He inherited the strength of mind from his mother

Father Frank worked at the shipyard and participated in boxing battles, and the mother was more interested in politics, not in the family. She was a strong woman, who had worked as a forensic translator and leader of a democratic party. She knew many people and made many good deeds. And this spirit Sinatra absorbed in himself. When he became rich, he often gave his relatives generous gifts. He was scrupulous in clothes and kept his body in shape. He showed himself high standards and could demand it from others. In public, Sinatra could tell someone in the face of claims of violation of etiquette. Loyal to the "color" and anti-Semites, our hero did not tolerate sloppy dressed journalists who asked him annoying questions. Frank could easily be pulled out of himself, just not showing him enough respect.

He was dangerous to himself

It is customary for kings of show business to be thrown from the throne. When the star of Sinatra in the early 50's temporarily sunk, he posed a threat only to himself. This was influenced by a stormy connection with actress Avaya Gardner, lasting six years and the subsequent painful break. Many of the artist's best albums have a sad tone and tell of a broken heart. Repeatedly Sinatra attempted suicide. And this existential depth you can hear in his two sad albums Sings for Only the Lonely (1958) and No One Cares (1959). The last album himself Sinatra for the eyes called a collection of suicidal songs. Thanks to this record, the artist climbed to the top of popularity for the second time, and the return was even stronger than his first glimpse of glory.
