Interview in English: How to Prepare for Him and How to Successfully Pass It

More and more qualified specialists who received a diploma of higher education in the territory of one of the countries of the former USSR are trying to find their place in a foreign company.

In addition to careful preparation of documents confirming the level of education of qualifications and work experience, each applicant seeking a position in such a firm must know in advance that he will most likely have to pass an interview in English. At the same time, even if it is supposed that you will work in the territory of your country, as a rule, a representative of the central office comes to consider candidacies for this or that post, and this is most often a foreigner.

It is important to remember that in order to prepare for the interview successfully and give the desired result, studying books on doing business abroad will not be enough.

Foreign employers are fundamentally different from the leaders with whom we are accustomed to dealing. For example, in our country, the interview is most often attended by a director, his deputy, a representative of the human resources department or one of the top managers, and each of them applies to candidates with poorly concealed mistrust. Representatives of Western companies, on the contrary, calmly take part in the conversation, a kindly smile does not come off their faces even when discussing serious problems.

In general, the interview in English is not such a terrible procedure, especially if you know and navigate in certain features.

So, sending a resume and getting a call for an interview in English, do not run for courses or try to independently learn some new words and phrases in a foreign language. If you studied well at school and loved English at the university, the material you learned will be enough to communicate during the interview. The time saved is best spent on preparing documents, studying the list of possible questions and creating the right psychological attitude.

What to say in an interview?

This question is almost the main thing when preparing for an interview in English. As already mentioned above, foreign employers are different from the directors we are used to, which means that we will have to behave differently.

Remember that an interview in English usually begins with an innocent conversation about the weather, the time of the year, news and the like. And only after that the potential employer passes to the main block of questions, the answers to which should clarify the situation with your education, competence, future plans, hobbies, communicative skills and the ability to solve a complex problem in command. Quite often there are questions about the previous place of work, a comfortable salary level. Try to avoid one-syllable answers to any of the questions asked. So, even if the information seems inconsequential to you, and the question of whether you found the office of the company easily, it is desirable to answer not just affirmatively, but with one or two sentences to reveal the essence.

Experts and people who have at least once interviewed in English, say that communication with a foreign representative of the company is already a stress, and if your future depends on its decision, then even more so. So, the preparation for the interview should include the creation of a peculiar psychological mood. It is important to remember that the people sitting in front of you, you see for the first time, which means that you have a unique chance to make the most favorable impression. To do this, it is important to relax, smile, and answer all the questions positively. In addition, do not hesitate to ask the clarifying questions you are interested in - this will show you the level of your competence and interest in the post.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in the interview in English, but it is still worthwhile to prepare for it in advance.
