International Day - Nurse's Day
Every year on May 12 the International Nurses Day is celebrated, or International Nurses Day (the name adopted as a worldwide one). On this day, everyone should prepare to pay tribute to people who work for the benefit of others, who dedicated their lives to helping mankind.
International Day of the nurse is celebrated on the birthday of one of the famous Englishwomen, Florence Nightingale, who organized the very first service of the sisters of mercy in the world during the flared up Crimean War (1853-1856).
It was during the hostilities that certain stable stereotypes developed: a nurse is a nurse or a nurse taking soldiers from the battlefield; She is standing next to the patient during the operation, and may herself provide first aid.
According to reliable sources, Russian nuns from the St. Nicholas monastery of the Russian capital went to the front during the Crimean War to join their sisters from abroad and help them to care for the wounded and sick soldiers. Later, the wives of aristocrats worked, helping the hospital staff. It is known that the daughter and the wife of Emperor Nicholas I. also contributed to a good endeavor.
Russia is a little behind with the adoption of this holiday. And only in 1993 it was decided to make it to the general list. This suggests that Nurses Day is a relatively young holiday. It remains to be hoped that the younger generation will be able to penetrate its significance, having become acquainted with the history of this heroic profession.
