Ignition on the VAZ-2106

Not all motorists are thinking about the fact that the correct installation of the ignition of their cars significantly affects not only the dynamic properties, but also the life of the engine. In this article, we'll talk about installing the ignition on the classic model of the "Lada", namely the VAZ-2106 (although this technique is easily suitable for other models of the VAZ family). As you know, the device of the ignition system of this car can be of two types: contact and non-contact. If you have at least a basic understanding of the device of the non-contact ignition system of petrol engines, you can safely proceed to the procedure of installing the ignition.

So, conventionally, the car's ignition system consists of three parts: the installation of a UZSK (the angle of the closed state of the contacts of the breaker-distributor), the advance angle and a practical correction during the operation of the car. To adjust the UZSK it is necessary to remove the cover of the trambler, visually inspect the status of the contacts, if necessary replace or simply clean the contacts. Then it is necessary to crank the crankshaft in such a position that the moving contact of the contact group is on the cam of the breaker (trampler). Correctly put the ignition without this procedure will be difficult, but you will need to be patient.

After all the work done, it is necessary to unscrew the clamping screw of the contact group and set the distance between the contacts equal to 0.4 mm. This can be done with a special feeler, and it must move between the contacts with a little effort, but not in a free state. Then it is necessary to tighten the screw, turn the crankshaft with a special key and again check the gap between the contacts with the probe.

The clearance should be the same, because the incorrectly set ignition angle (in other words the gap) will inevitably lead to incorrect installation of the car's ignition. With this, everything is clear, except that it should be added that the crankshaft can be cranked and without the use of a special key. For this purpose, you can simply turn on the fourth (fifth) gear and lightly push the car to the desired value. Turning the engine starter also makes no sense, since it is quite difficult to get to the cam of the shaft of the trampler.

Next, you need to set the ignition timing. What is it about? The thing is that the combustible mixture in the cylinder should not be ignited when the piston comes to the top dead center, but a little earlier. This value is negligible, but the correct setting of the ignition without this is practically impossible (the engine will work, but its efficiency will be slightly worse, fuel consumption a little more, etc.). For this, the crankshaft must be aligned with the marks that are in the front of the car engine. It will be easy for even a newcomer to understand them, so we will not dwell on this step.

Now we pass to practical tests, that is, to the results of our work on adjusting the ignition. To do this, you need to drive by car in different modes, that is, slow speed dialing, speed dialing, driving with acceleration, etc. Of course, the engine must be heated to normal operating temperature and it should not have any malfunctions with the fuel system. Otherwise, you will not be able to know exactly the correctness of the ignition. So, if you feel that the ignition setup has not given results, then you need to crank the trample a little. Rotate it counter-clockwise or vice versa, depending on the specific situation. The most important thing - do not significantly crank the tram. Since you will disable all the settings, and you will have to re-do the procedures described above!
