How to use the DT 832 multimeter: instructions, features and reviews

Instruments that combine an ammeter, voltmeter and ohmmeter, are convenient for use in everyday life and at work. It is important for every home teacher to know how to use the DT 832 multimeter, one of the most popular devices. At first you need to read and remember the instruction. It should be strictly carried out, because at the slightest error the device can fail.

The device is intended for determining the parameters:

  • Electric current;
  • Voltage between two points of the electric circuit;
  • Electrical resistivity.

The device also performs a number of operations:

  • Continuity of circuits with digital indication and sound signaling;
  • Control of the integrity of semiconductor parts;
  • Measurement of gains of transistors;
  • Thermocouple temperature measurements.

Multimeter device

To learn how to properly use the DT 832 multimeter, you first need to familiarize yourself with its device.

  1. A liquid crystal display shows the numerical values of the parameters.
  2. The functions of the device are changed by the switch. When not in use, it is turned off, otherwise the battery will be quickly discharged.
  3. Three sockets of the device serve for connection to probes. The main one ("COM") with negative polarity inserts a pin with a black wire. A red test lead is inserted into the next socket labeled VΩmA. It serves to measure current, voltage and resistance. Through the third socket (top), the DC current value is measured from 0.2 to 10 A.
  4. A panel for measuring the gain of transistors.
  5. Wires with probes. In comparison with the device itself, the quality is much lower, and many home masters for themselves make them anew. The wire is taken from a section of 1 mm 2 , and the shell must be thick and elastic. To connect to any place of the circuit through the insulation or varnish coating, instead of probes, needles are soldered to the wires.

How to use the DT 832 multimeter: Instruction

The required mode is set by the switch. The limits of the measured characteristics are indicated on the front panel of the device and in the instruction.

Before using the DT 832 multimeter, you must put the switch in the desired mode.

Resistance

The function is mainly used for the continuity of electrical circuits, when it is necessary to detect a breakage or conduct a new wiring. The switch is placed in the resistance sector at the lowest level with a sound signaling about a short circuit. The absence of a signal means that there is a rupture or an excess of 50 Ω. The contact may be broken directly between the probe and the socket. The wires are short-circuited to check the operation of the device. The instrument should show zero or several ohms.

Before using the DT 832 multimeter to check electronic circuits, one resistor leg should be removed from the board.

Multimeters of Chinese manufacture with low quality have a significant error when measuring electrical parameters. Also, the signal is distorted from the connecting wires and probes. Professionals make accessories for the tester themselves, because the factory ones are usually of poor quality.

Voltage of direct current

The DCV sector is divided into five ranges. For measurements, a large step of the range of values is taken. If a smaller range is set, the unit may burn out. If high accuracy is not required or the measured value is unknown, the multimeter is set to the maximum limit. Then the range can be set more precisely. The signal for exceeding the measuring limit is the warning HV, which lights up in the display, in the upper left corner.

Especially the large values of voltage are measured carefully. It is not necessary to observe the polarity: if it is confused, a "-" sign appears on the left of the screen.

Voltage of alternating current

The ACV sector is used for measurements. It is important to properly connect the tester to the correct limits, otherwise it may fail.

If you select a DC voltage range instead of a variable, the error can be disastrous for the device.

D.C

Small currents are measured in the DCA sector. You should be very careful here. If an error is detected by measuring the voltage in this range, a short circuit will occur.

To measure the current to 10 A, the red test lead switches to the upper socket. It is important to know how to use the DT 832 digital multimeter at high current. Readings should be taken for a few seconds!

Diodes check

The radio part is soldered at one end of the board, when measurements are taken. The transistor can also be checked at the resistance measurement sector, since, according to the principle of operation, the element is two diodes connected to each other. Having found out which of the conclusions is the base, both transitions are checked for breakdown. For transistors of the pnp type, the positive probe is installed on the base, and the negative probe should show infinity on the other terminals. For npn elements, the wire from the "COM" socket is connected to the base. The resistance of the emitter junction is larger than the collector one and is 0.5-1.2 kΩ.

The continuity of the transitions determines the serviceability of the transistor. The current gain factor can be determined by inserting the pins into the corresponding sockets on the panel.

Temperature measurement

The switch is set to "Temp", and the plug of the thermocouple is inserted into the sockets of the device. The internal temperature is measured without a thermocouple on the same function range.

Checking the serviceability of capacitors

In the instruction describing how to use the DT 832 multimeter, for teapots only the basic functions characteristic of most devices are provided. When you need to check the capacitor, and there is no possibility of determining the capacitance, you can at least establish whether it is right or not. First it should be repaired and shorted legs to remove the charge, if any.

Then the switch of the device is installed on the dial and the ends of the probes need to touch the terminals of the polar capacitor, holding them in this position. If its capacitance is greater than 0.25 μF, the resistance reading will appear on the display, and then "1" will light up. This means that the charge is over and the resistance is infinitely large. If a unit appears at once, it means that inside there was a break, if the resistance is zero - the closure between the plates.

The non-polar capacitor is checked for the resistance value, which should be greater than 2 mΩ for the serviceable part.

Multimeter "Ermak"

An ordinary user can use a simple, cheap and reliable multimeter "Ermak" digital DT 832. How to use it? Very simple, it is a conventional tester.

The device switches on by setting the switch to the desired position. The characteristics are no different from the usual ones, and the price is small. Reviews about the model of Chinese production are given positive, to solve domestic problems with wiring it is quite suitable.

Conclusion

Each master should know how to use the DT 832 multimeter, since it is extremely necessary in everyday life. Most reviews of the model are positive, thanks to numerous functions and an acceptable price. In order for the device to last a long time, you should carefully follow the instructions for its use.
