How to set Word wrapping

Word wrap is one of the most important functions of a text editor. With its help you can achieve two very positive moments when formatting. First, the text received as a result will take up less space, since its placement will be as compact as possible. Secondly, if this option is disabled, then at the end of the line the program will transfer to the new row the whole last word that does not fit in the current one. If such a word has a long length, then the line in which it does not fit will look unnaturally stretched, which spoils the aesthetic perception of the document.

Word wrapping in Word 2003 is enabled through the "Tools" menu, where you should select the sub-item "Language". After passing into this tab, the user will be able to access the correct editing tool, which is called "Hyphenation ...". After examining the window that opens, you can see that it provides not only automatic placement, but also a number of other useful functions that facilitate flexible configuration.

If the user confines himself by simply putting a mark in the field "Automatic placement ..." and confirms his actions by pressing the "Ok" key, the program itself will put the words across the entire document. However, if desired, you can manually carry out the transfer for selected words. In this case, the program will show the version of the breakdown of the word into syllables, from which the user can choose the variant that suits him. This is done in cases where, for example, the total number of pages of a document is important, but some very long words violate the harmony of external perception.

Include this mode can be both at the initial stage of document formation, and at its final editing in Word. Word wrapping will most often be useful in final formatting, since otherwise significant changes can lead to word shifts, resulting in broken-down elements not at the end of the line, but in other places.

When setting up additional options, you should pay attention to the item "The width of the zone ...". The default value for this parameter is 0.63 cm. This is the size of the field relative to the right edge of the document within which the word wrap will be placed. Accordingly, the smaller the value of its value, the smoother the right side of the formatted file will look.

In the place where the transfer is carried out, Word sets a special non-printing character "soft carry". If desired, you can remove it manually by turning on the display of hidden characters. Also, if there are a large number of such characters in the text (for example, when scanning), you can perform their automatic replacement by using the "Cntrl + F" features, where you should select "More" in the "Replace" tab.

In the updated Word (Office 2007, 2010, etc.), word wrapping is done a little differently. In order to gain control over this function, you need to find the "Page layout" tab. In the opened toolbar there is a menu "Page parameters". If you enter it, the option "Hyphenation" will become available.
