How to make carved window frames? Templates with their own hands. Drawings and sketches

Fairy-tale beauty that has come down to us from the depths of centuries. It is visible to everyone in the old, beautiful, chopped houses, decorated with interesting carvings carvings with openwork patterns and rich kokoshnikami, located on the roof, and fascinates many modern people. You can admire such beauty for a long time, but to create it yourself is a very difficult task. However, with a large and irresistible desire, you can make carved platbands for windows (templates) with your own hands.

The problem of creating platbands from a tree

The question is not whether the skills of a real artist or fantasy are needed to create geometrically correct, interesting, ornate patterns. The problem is more that products made of natural materials, for example, from wood, are short-lived due to the influence of external factors. The disadvantage of wooden platbands and thread elements is that they are capable of preserving their original appearance for many decades if stored in dry rooms inside the house. And the humidity on the street will quickly provoke the tree to be shattered, cracked and, perhaps, even cause chipping in places where the carving is thin. Any paintwork is inferior to ultraviolet rays, and rains only exacerbate the overall picture. This leads to the need to paint the product every year, constantly spending money to cover and spending a lot of time on labor. Not to mention the fact that you will have to repair or even replace such carved platbands on the windows. Templates with their own hands for these products can be made from different materials.

Why not use a tree

This moment can cause difficulties, but do not get frustrated ahead of time. There is always a way out, how best to create a cozy and pleasant atmosphere and improve the appearance of the building. Modern technologies have made it possible to create many materials that are more resistant to environmental influences. At the same time in all construction shops they can be found in abundance. You can, for example, use flat iron instead of wood. With its help, you can make durable and no less beautiful carved platbands on the windows with your own hands. Stencils in this case are needed in the same way as in the manufacture of this element of wood decor.

Flat Iron

Flat iron or sheet, as it is customary to call it, considering the factory classification, is a thin sheet, the thickness of which is approximately 0.4-0.7 millimeters. In the store you can find rolls of this material from 20 to 50 meters. The width of this roll according to the standard is 1025 centimeters. This material is usually covered with different colors, and you can meet both light and dark tin. In addition, each sheet of iron is covered with a protective film, which allows you to maintain the original characteristics during transport and does not allow scratches and potholes.

Necessary materials

To independently produce carved platbands on the windows with your own hands (templates can be seen in this article), you will need the following materials and tools:

  • First, you need a flat sheet of iron (tin), which will have a standard width of just over a meter.
  • Secondly, you need a roll of cheap wallpaper. They are used as an auxiliary tool for making carved platbands on the windows with their own hands. Stencils for decorating walls and other patterns are applied to the wallpaper, and only then to the material.
  • A set of staples with which you can fix the templates. Their fixation will help more accurately and smoothly translate the pattern with a pattern on the surface of the material from which the carved platbands on the windows will be made with their own hands. Sketches for creating blanks can be easily found and just as easy to use. In addition, they will be needed when you need to fix the finished parts with each other.
  • Connecting brackets. It should be noted that their size should not exceed 4 millimeters.
  • An ordinary pencil for drawing a pattern and necessary notations.
  • Eraser: after all, there is a possibility that from the first time the pattern may not be perfectly smooth.
  • Ruler to better size all surfaces and determine the accuracy of the patterns.

  • Drill, whose diameter will be 8 millimeters. It will be needed, in order to create holes for the jigsaw. This will happen in those places where the upper carved platbands on the windows will be cut. Templates, photos of which we could use as a basis for the stencil of blanks, we no longer need at this step.
  • Drill, the diameter of which will not exceed 4 millimeters. With its help, holes will be created, necessary in the place where the clamp joints of the parts will be.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Hacksaw for metal.
  • Sandpaper, and useful and small and medium. It is needed to eliminate the burrs that inevitably form during the work.
  • Pylon (hand) and a hammer, preferably rubber. By means of these tools, straightening of the blanks will be carried out.

The subtleties of the process of manufacturing platbands from tin

Before you start creating carved window frames for windows, you should make and install quality window slopes. This is necessary to remove the correct size and to make carved platbands on the windows with their own hands. Drawings can tell you how to do it correctly. This is done taking into account the protruding edges of the slopes that extend over the walls. After all dimensions are removed, it is worthwhile to calculate the characteristics of the future platbands. The standard width of this product is about 30 centimeters.

Next, you need to choose any smooth roll of wallpaper to make from it carved platbands on the windows with your own hands (templates, of course). When the sample pattern is selected, you will need to prepare three "patterns". One of them will be longer, it is needed for the lateral symmetrical parts, the second and third, respectively, in short, for the top and bottom of the window.

Creating a Template

The cut strips need to be folded twice, and so that when drawing a sketch, the center of the pattern corresponds to the bend point. This manipulation will save time and reduce the likelihood of errors when creating a template.

The fact is that during the cutting of the pattern, both halves of the template will be created at once, in other words, this will create perfectly flat and regular carved platbands on the windows with their own hands. Drawings of patterns will not be used as often as in the case of separate drawing of each part of the workpiece.

Workplace and materials

To create an ideal workplace for further work, you need to move together two tables, the height of which will be the same. Between the tables you need to leave a gap that will be about 8 centimeters. This distance is necessary for the work of electric jig saw. For the manufacture of platbands, a metal of two colors is required. This combination is the simplest option. If you want, you can change this setting. Overhead color, for example, choose white. It will be used to cut out patterns. As a second layer, you can choose a material of any color, because it will not be visible anyway, since it is used exclusively as a lining under the outer layer of the product, which is called carved window frames. We make templates ourselves, we will remind once again.

Creation of platbands from sheet iron

You need to take a sheet of flat iron and cut it with strips to create the clypeus of the desired width. It is necessary to turn the face of the workpiece of the upper overlaid part face down, and also make a flip on the reverse side after the template is secured with clips. After that, translate an openwork pattern on the material.

After the figure is displayed, you need an electric drill with a drill 8 mm in diameter. It is necessary to drill through holes and begin to cut the clypeus with a saw and a jigsaw. Next, you need to put the iron strip on the table, and it is important that it is clearly located in the center of the table. This will allow you to cut out the drawing clearly and evenly, without compromising the overall picture.

Creating the bottom workpiece

After the top part has been cut, you can proceed to the next step, which is responsible for creating the bottom part, which will serve as a background. To do this, you also need to cut the material into strips with the necessary width and length characteristics. At the same time, we should not forget that the part will have a fringing, that is, the width of this pattern should exceed the parameters of the outer blanks. The ideal option in this case is to increase the width by about five centimeters. Back produce a flip of the sheet - so that the front side is located on top. Next, you need to put on this piece the upper casing stock, which is located face down and draw the outer edge along the edge of the picture, taking into account the indentation, and after that you can begin to cut out the part.

Completion of Work with Procurement

After both blanks have been prepared, you need to remove the protective film from them and apply them to each other. After this, the parts should be fixed with clips. Next, one or more holes should be drilled with a 4 mm diameter drill. Using a riveted hand-held machine, you need to make a control coupling of parts, thereby preventing their divergence. Having carried out this action, you can start drilling and riveting the entire structure. Everything - the product is fully ready for use. You can proceed to the next stage - install carved platbands on the windows with your own hands. Templates for them we did earlier.

Installation of platbands

In order to conduct the installation of clypeus, first you need to find a ladder or step-ladder, through which you can reach the windows. To mount the products on a wooden wall, you will need:

  • A hammer.
  • Small nails, the length of which does not exceed six centimeters.
  • Assembly syringe.
  • Liquid silicone for installation. In this case, it must match the color of the clypeus or be generally colorless. It will be required to cover the incipient cracks.
  • A small artistic brush, as well as a paint that corresponds to the color of the product, will be used to paint nails with these tools so that they do not spoil the appearance of the platbands.

To install the clypeus on a wall that consists of a stone, you will need:

  • Electric drill.
  • Drill diameter of 4 millimeters with a winning tip.
  • Corks for screws. If they are not available, you can build wooden ones yourself and hammer them into holes.
  • Mounting syringe.
  • Liquid mounting silicone, the color of which either will match the color of the product, or it will be transparent, so as not to spoil the appearance of the structure.
  • A small artistic brush, as well as a paint that corresponds to the color of the product. With the help of these tools, the nails will be painted, so that they do not spoil the look of the product, which is called "carved window frames". Templates, made with their own hands, can be postponed until the next case.

The final stage of work

It is necessary to adjust the platens closely to the edges of the slopes of the window that protrude, and fasten them to the wall. After that you need to eliminate all the cracks and irregularities using silicone. After bringing the product into an aesthetic appearance, the work can be safely considered complete.

Proceeding from the information given above, it is immediately evident that it is quite realistic to create carved platbands on the windows with our own hands. Templates - simple or complex - can be found or also made by yourself. Therefore, using even minimal skills and imagination, it is quite possible to improve the appearance of the building without spending a lot of money and time.
