How to make a feeder from the bottle with your own hands?

On the eve of the cold weather, many people are thinking about how to make a feeder from a bottle. Even the townspeople do not lazy and hang them in parks and squares. And those who have their suburban areas, diligently feed the winged orderlies, so that in the summer months they take care of the available plantings. On stationary, wooden, not everyone has time and skills, but it's not difficult to build a feeder from a bottle.

Fundamental rules

Before you make a feeder from a plastic bottle, you should consider some points to make it comfortable and safe for birds.

  1. The size of the container should not be too small, otherwise it will not be suitable for the intended purposes. Even a small bird can get stuck inside the "dining room" and die. The minimum volume of the bottle is one and a half liters.
  2. Capacity is suitable only for drinking water. No matter how you try to wash, say, a can from under the detergent, there is no guarantee that you will do it well enough and the birds will not be poisoned by residual miasms.
  3. The bird window should be quite wide. Moreover, it is better to cut through at least two: the entrance and exit, so you do not have to turn around for departure. In addition, two birds will be able to feed at once.
  4. For convenience of use the perches are required. They can be internal, but there must be at least one outside so that you can land.
  5. The most important thing is accommodation, since making a feeder from a bottle is not enough, you still need to consider how safe it will be for birds. They are hung on branches, strong enough to support the weight of the "dining room" with the birds, but too thin for the cat to be able to pick up.

It is advisable to place the feeder in a place protected from the wind. If this is not the case, put a load on the bottom of the bottle. Otherwise, it will swing heavily, scaring off the birds and losing the forage.

The simplest version

The fastest and uncomplicated way how to make a feeder with your own hands from a bottle is to cut large holes with a knife or scissors on each side. Here it is necessary to observe two conditions:

  1. The bridges between the windows should be wide enough to not break.
  2. At the bottom it is necessary to leave the doorsteps: it will prevent the grain and seeds from blowing out of the trough.

When cutting, plastic may have sharp burrs and edges. In order to avoid possible injuries, it is better to cover all openings with something: insulating tape, drug patch or tape.

To insert a rod-perch in the opposite walls of the bottle, holes are cut or fused, into which the perch is pierced.

You can use two ways to suspend the feeder. The first is to stick a bottle to the post or tree, if it is not too large. The second is to scroll the hole in the neck or lid and pass through it a rope, wire or line.

Feeding trough with batchers

The next way, how to make a feeder from a bottle, is suitable for feeding the smallest birds. It is good that the seeds are not subjected to permanent exposure to external moisture and last longer are kept fresh, not moldy. The system is extremely simple: in a bottle of 1.5 liters, a through hole is made, corresponding to the size of a handle of a wooden spoon. It is inserted, the handle will be just a roost, and the "scoop" should be closely adjacent to the bottle wall. This hole is made wider, so that the food wakes up in a spoon. The whole container is filled with grain or seeds, the lid is twisted, a hole is drilled in it and the twine is twisted. The design is ready!

How to make a feeder from a plastic bottle with self-filling

It will be especially convenient if you do not have the opportunity to regularly replenish the supply of feed. The main thing is to find two containers with the same diameter of the neck or to figure out how to fix one in the other.

For the outer shell, take a large container, since making a feeder from a 5-liter bottle with self-filling is more convenient, and you can create more stocks. For filler, the usual one, for 1.5-2 liters, is quite suitable. A smaller bottle cuts the bottom so that it is shorter by the height of a large centimeter. In the cylinder windows are cut out; It is advisable not to cut the plastic completely, but to bend it over the entrance - so the food will be more reliably protected from oblique deposits. Through one of the holes, the inner bottle is inserted into the outer one, and its neck is fixed in it (for example, by gluing or fusing). You can suspend the feeder directly for the existing handle. The food, poured into the smaller "flask", will pour out of it as the birds eat up the available.

Personal feeder for tits

It may seem strange to the urban man to make individual feeders. But I must say that tits need special care: in severe winters, only a fifth of the population survives until the heat, and the approach to feeders for them is usually hampered by the ubiquitous cheeky sparrows. Therefore, our people came up with how to make a feeder from a bottle, which can only be used by a smart bird, to which the titmouses belong.

A bottle of 1.5 liters is placed on the table, and at the same height (12-15 mm) markers are made horizontal marks on each "leg" of the vessel. These strips are cut with a knife and heated with a hair dryer, you can even ordinary hair. When the plastic softens, the upper part, above the notch, is pressed inward. Careful, hot! Each received "pocket" is pierced by a heated nail - this will be a drain for collecting water. Above the "cells of nutrition" is inserted a perch on which the tits will rest. Fastening of the trough is done as described.

It is checked by many mistrustful: sparrows do not understand how to reach a meal. But the tits master the design on the first day.

How to fill the "dining room"

Having figured out how to make a feeder from a bottle, it remains only to choose the right food. In many respects it depends on which birds are found in your surroundings. Suitable for all birds are millet, millet, sunflower seeds and oats. If there are bullfrogs and waxwings nearby, it is good to pour berries into the bird feeder - rowan and elderberry. For the gnats, woodpeckers and nuthatch, the diet can be varied with acorns and cones. It is useful to add tannic lard to the troughs - but not salted. All birds can - and need! - pour eggshell. In no case can "pamper" feathered black bread, the remnants of sweet and salty baking, chips or cornflakes - that you can even kill a flyer.
