How to enable Stream on Twitch. How to configure OBS (Twitch.tv)

If you are an experienced player in computer games (online and not only), you have a wonderful voice, you have charisma and love the audience, then why do not you spend time with benefit, share your experience, and who knows, maybe you can make money on it ? Such a useful pastime will be "Stream" through Twitch. What is "stream"? This is a live broadcast of the game directly from your computer to one of the many Internet channels, from Youtube to Goodgame. There are many channels, but the most successful and massive streams "live" on Twitch. Why Twitch? Firstly, it's a channel with a clear and step-by-step explanation of how to configure three different programs to capture the screen (we'll talk about them later). Secondly, Twitch is an international channel. For example, your "Meinkraft Stream" can be viewed not only by compatriots, but also by spectators from near and far abroad countries, which, naturally, raises the number of possible viewers several times. Of course, there are other channels, such as SK2, Gamezet, Goodgame and YouTube, but starting on Twitch is both easier and more interesting. In addition, you can broadcast not only one channel, but all at once. So, how to turn on Stream on Twitch?

Select a program

There is an incredible variety of different programs designed for these purposes. The most popular program for Stream on Twitch is OBS (Open Broadcasting Software), followed by much simpler, but less affordable (for some really important options you have to pay) Xsplit. If you are ready to give about $ 15 a month, but to stream in one click in perfect quality and with almost no settings - you should take a closer look at the professional version of Xsplit. If your wallet is not designed for such a load, then it's worth spending some time setting up OBS.

The first steps in the big world

If you need a program for Stream on Twitch, then it's easy to find it. The most important component of Stream (with the exception of the streamer itself) is computer hardware and an Internet connection. Since the stream is the transfer of data from the computer to the servers of the channel, your iron comrade must be able to:

  • Process a sufficiently large amount of data (for translation in good quality);
  • Quickly transfer them.

If these conditions are not respected, viewers will be forced to either watch "soap-quince", or reconcile with the lags and suspensions of the video. On the audience, of course, this will affect negatively. How do I enable Stream on Twitch and check if your computer meets all the necessary requirements?

The speed of your Internet connection is checked by Speedtest, and it is necessary to check it on the servers of Amsterdam, because the server closest to the territory of Russia and the CIS countries is located there.

And then you make the adjustment according to this table:

The table is rather confusing, also in English, so some points should be clarified:

  1. The horizontal line is the type of processor from Intel, painted by generations and series. It is recognized through the "Computer" - "Properties" - "Processor".
  2. Vertical - download speed (Upload Speed), which we learned after Speedtest'a.

And then we find the graph corresponding to your processor and Internet connection. If it is painted white or blue - then stream until it works, and we need to update the computer or improve the connection. And the "Stream" setting will be too much. Twitch simply will not receive video in high enough resolution, and you will only be watched if you show something incredibly exclusive.

"In the beginning there was a word ..."

So, we sorted out the hardware and Internet connection, go to the microphone and webcam. Since listening to a voice from the underworld and seeing a blurry mirage instead of your charming face is very unpleasant, you will need a good microphone (ideally - professional or karaoke), a good webcam and, if possible, headphones (otherwise the sound of the game can be duplicated and created Unpleasant noises).

If your budget is not too limited, then it's better to look at professional gaming equipment (for example, from Razer). Otherwise, choose to your taste and purse. Remember that ideally the microphone should be cardioid, it may not be so convenient, but all extraneous noises will be guaranteed to be minimized. In addition, the camera is better to select with the ability to transfer images in HD.

Prepare for customization

Before you turn on Stream on Twitch, you need to go through the registration procedure (with confirmation of e-mail) and get your Stream key (the key by which the program "learns" which channel to transfer data to). Some programs just need a user and password, but this does not apply to OBS. Therefore, after registration, go to your information panel and there you will receive Stream key ("Stream Key" - "Show Key")

All of the above will help you in the configuration, which we now and will.

How to enable Stream on Twitch

Download OBS, install and run. Go to the "Settings" section.

And now on the points.

General information

Here you can customize the language of the program and give a name to the profile (the set of settings you set). The profile name is better to be made meaningful (for example, "Stream Dot" or Twitch, otherwise it will be easy to get confused).

Coding

Here the most important settings, the quality of the picture on "Stream" depends on them. Twitch requires streamers of constant bitrate and CBR-padding, so if there are no checkmarks opposite them, then do not forget to expose them.

Do you remember the table where we checked the "proficiency" for Stream? Time to return to it, because it is there that the recommended maximum bitrate is recorded. Slightly lower the table with the type of processor and the connection is a plate with the type of streaming vertically and its quality horizontally.

We find our value and set the maximum bitrate. Remember, if it is above 3000, it's better to add another stream with a lower bitrate (otherwise users of weak PCs will not be able to see you).

Audio is set to AAC, and its bitrate is set to 128.

Casting

Broadcasting is possible both on the air (immediately to your game channel) and for local recording, which will be recorded on your computer after the broadcast. It is recommended to start with local, because you will have the opportunity to evaluate the quality of the picture and sound, to notice the presence / absence of the video "hang", etc. By default, the video is written to the system disk in the user's folder (we will repeat again that the folder There must be a meaningful name, say, "Stream Dot", otherwise for several profiles the search for the desired video will take hours), but the path can be changed.

Next is the "Stream" setting for Twitch. In the "Broadcast Service" column select Twitch, insert the key that we received on the site into the Stream Key box.

If a bunch of red inscriptions appeared at the bottom - do not be afraid, everything is fine, the program tells us what else to do. If you do not want to learn how to set up Stream on Twitch more subtly, you can click on the "Optimize" button in the lower left corner. If not, then continue.

Video

To avoid black bands along the edges (and jokes from the category "here could be your advertisement"), it is recommended to set an extension equal to the extension of your monitor, FPS set depending on the data obtained in the table.

Audio

Here we select the playback devices (usually the speakers or headphones) and the microphone used.

Let us dwell on the remaining points in more detail:

  • Delay HH: 200 (only change if viewers complain that the endings of your phrases disappear, increase by 200 and check).
  • Strengthening applications: 1 (change if viewers hear you, but not game).
  • Amplification of the microphone: 1 (and vice versa, if you hear only game sounds, but not your voice).
  • Microphone offset: use only if there are problems with synchronization.

On this basic setup of OBS for "Stream" Twitch is nearing completion, and only "cosmetic elements" remain. About them further.

Hotkeys

The content is more than obvious from the title.

If you want to use the Push to Talk function (turn on the microphone only by pressing a key), check the box next to "Use the" Press and speak "function.

It is recommended to set hot keys to start / stop recording, as this will make the streaming process much more enjoyable.

Extensions

"Multithreaded optimization" - check the box opposite.

The priority of the process is medium (when the processor changes, it will use more / less available resources for OBS, which will affect the work of other programs).

Put a tick in front of the item "Disable coding in the preview" should be only if there are lags in the preview.

Preset x264 CPU: it is set depending on the processor power. We recommend starting with veryfast, and, if power and connection allows, smoothly move to values near the slower.

Encoding profile: it is better to use main, because some gadgets (phones, tablets) may have problems with channel decoding.

Interval of key frames: according to Twitch standards should be equal to 2.

To adjust the audio for video timing: use if there is an out-of-sync between sound and video image.

All other items are recommended to touch if and only if you know exactly what you are doing and are ready to bear responsibility for this.

In the end, setting up OBS for Stream Twitch is over.

Scenes

The program is configured, now you need to configure scenes and translation sources. Simply put, the scene is what will be displayed on the stream, the source - where it will be taken from. New scenes or sources are created by right-clicking on the field and selecting from the pop-up menu "new scene" / "new source". They can be given a name (again, better meaningful and short, for example, "Maincraft Stream", etc.).

The source can be:

  1. Desktop (the program will show the contents of your desktop).
  2. Window (any of the open windows).
  3. Image (the picture from the computer, in order to "close" empty places on the stream).
  4. Slideshow (same as on the item described above, only the amount is larger and replaced after some interval).
  5. Text (can change the size, font, effects, etc.).
  6. Capture device (camera or audio device).
  7. Game (select any of the open applications at the moment).

That's the whole setup of Stream. Twitch can change their requirements or add new ones, so it's recommended to visit the site from time to time and re-read the rules.

Frequent errors of streamers

  1. When you start watching the channel of a person, you are interested in who he is, what he does, what he plays, what he is interested in, how he looks, etc. But on most channels there is not even an elementary personal information. Remember that the fact of registration and the first broadcasts does not yet make you a star, so do not be lazy and tell us a little about yourself.
  2. It is recommended that you read the translation rule. Together with the rather trivial (limitation of obscene lexicon, racist and so on utterances), there are very specific (not broadcast without clothes or in stockings / bathing suits / underwear, etc.). If they are violated, a permanent ban is possible, which means that all your efforts to read the article on how to make Stream on Twitch were in vain.
  3. Without advertising, fame can not be achieved. Create a group "VKontakte", register on Twitter and Facebook (if you plan to broadcast and in English) and there lay out information about streams, various content, etc.

At the end of the article, it should be mentioned that if you are broadcasting to several sites, then remember the delay (approximately 5 minutes) between the channels. Also do not forget that the maximum length of the video on Youtube is 120 minutes. All that is over this limit - is recorded in the next video.

This concludes the article on how to do Stream on Twitch, and wish you success!
