How to draw grass using different materials

The image of landscapes on paper is a very tedious process. It is often difficult to transfer the form of miniature elements, because of what the realism of the picture suffers. Usually a stumbling block for beginners is the vegetable world. As the work progresses, a lot of questions arise, and one of them: how to draw grass?

Materials and complexity

You can depict vegetation with any art materials, from simple pencil to pastel. However, the choice of means for the task posed significantly affects the complexity of its implementation.

For example, strangely enough, the hardest thing is to draw grass with a slate pencil. It will take a lot of effort to achieve a noticeable color transition and highlight each sprout.

It will be a little easier to depict a dry pastel conceived, but in this case you will need knowledge of coloristics or practical skills. Before you draw a grass, it is advisable to make a few test sketches on a separate sheet.

To work with paints is easy, but for a realistic picture you have to tinker. In nature, the shades of the leaves of one plant may differ, and so does the grass. Two of the blade of grass growing next to each other is not the same, because the pigment distribution is uneven. Thus, when using paints, you will first have to select the appropriate shades and only then start creating.

How to draw grass in stages with a pencil

To reliably depict the green cover of the soil, you should spend some time watching it or at least sort out a few different photos on the network. It is required to consider in detail the shape of grass blades, to understand how it behaves under the influence of various factors, and most importantly, how plants look from different angles.

For work you will need:

  • eraser;
  • A sheet of paper of any format;
  • Pencils of different rigidity.

Stages

  1. Before you draw a grass with a pencil, remember that it grows in one direction. Some blade of grass can be deflected, but the whole cover must not be tiny and chaotically ruffled. Guided by this principle, you need to outline a barely noticeable contour of vegetation, not forgetting the direction of the elements.
  2. Arrange light light accents in the background, guided by the position of the sun.
  3. Thoroughly draw individual elements and foreground.
  4. Start shading by adding a shadow and arranging the reflexes.

After the completion of this stage, the drawing is almost ready, it will only be necessary to refine it and make additional accents at the discretion of the artist.

How to draw grass gouache

The technique of depicting the vegetation cover depends on the material selected. For example, gouache to draw grass is quite simple. The principle is the same for the foreground and background.

For drawing, you need a thick brush and a palette with ready-made shades. The entire landscape should be ready, the grass is represented last.

  1. The paint is applied with light strokes from the bottom edge of the sheet. It is advisable to take a little gouache on the brush, otherwise the desired effect will not work.
  2. The length of the smear depends on the height of the grass. Drag it to exactly this point, smoothly reducing the pressure on the brush.
  3. The color of the grass should not be the same, so do not try to level it.

This method is suitable not only for filling the foreground. Guided by the principle of how to draw grass with paints, you can stretch the vegetation cover on the entire leaf. In this case, you must first apply a short brushstrokes to the background and, after waiting for the gouache to dry, continue to work layer by layer.

Grass with watercolor

In order to make the drawing watercolor successful, it is necessary to reserve a masking liquid in advance. It will close the places that are painted last (in this case it is grass).

Painting in watercolor is easy:

  1. You need to make a light pencil sketch with a picture of the landscape.
  2. Carefully fill the contour of each blade of grass with a masking fluid.
  3. Further on that part of the sheet, which is filled with vegetation, you can safely apply the paint, creating a general color background. It is desirable to use several shades of green and yellow. Do not be afraid to paint over areas covered with camouflage liquid - the product does not allow pigment to pass to the paper and is easily removed along with excess watercolors.
  4. This step should be started when the landscape is almost ready. Before you draw a grass, you need to clean the sheet from the masking liquid. This can be done with the help of nails.

In pure areas, it will only be necessary to draw a watercolor of a blade of grass. It is worth using shades that were not used to create a background, but close to them, to highlight each element.

Pastel

The vegetative cover should be drawn with a short shading, using all the shades of green and yellow in the arsenal. The main thing in this work is color, therefore accents and chiaroscuro should be correctly arranged, preferably, when checking with the original.

Especially accurate should be when applying a dark color, because not all light colors can paint it. The same applies to the bright yellow.
