How to clean fur at home: practical advice

Products made of fur, like any other wardrobe items, must be periodically put in order. Of course, not everyone knows how to clean fur at home. Most often we ask for help from specialists. You can clean furs in special establishments, such as dry cleaning. But at present, dry cleaning services are quite expensive and not everyone can afford, and it's also not known how they will treat your things in such establishments. In order to be sure that with the winter things all right, there is nothing better than cleaning fur at home.

But for this, of course, it is necessary to learn a few practical tips for bringing the outer clothing into order. So, for example, cleaning of artificial fur is conventionally divided into three types: cleaning fur hats, collars and outer clothing (fur coats and coats). And each type of product requires special care. But there are universal tips that are suitable for any of them:

  • It is necessary to prepare a mixture of vinegar, water and alcohol in a ratio of 1: 1: 1, and then brush it neatly put it on the fur in the direction of growth of the villi. After this, the mixture must be soaked with a clean rag.
  • It is necessary to warm up wheaten or rye bran, and then put them on a cloth. After that, carefully brush them off. Then you need to shake and smooth the fur product.
  • To get rid of fat spots on things of their fur and fluff, it is best to use gasoline. It should be applied a thin layer along the growth of the villi of the long fur and against the growth of the villi of the short fur.
  • How to clean fur at home without using gasoline? You can make a mixture of ammonia and salt in a ratio of 1: 3 (you can measure a teaspoon). Then add the mixture to ½ liter of water. It is necessary to process the fur with the resulting solution. After that, wipe with a damp cloth.
  • There is nothing easier than cleaning fur at home using a normal hair shampoo: one tablespoon diluted with a liter of water. The resulting solution and you need to clean the fur product, but very carefully, so as not to wet the fur, otherwise you can ruin the fur thing.
  • If the fur is stained with any stains, you can use medical and ammonia alcohols to clean it in an equal proportion. After applying the mortar on the fur, it is necessary to wipe it with a wet rag and dry it thoroughly.
  • To get rid of stains of various kinds, a mixture of ammonia, salt and pure water helps in a ratio of 1: 3: 50. After treating the fur with a similar solution, the product is wiped with a clean damp cloth, thoroughly dried and combed.
  • If the fur is not contaminated with stains, but simply dusted, it is necessary to cover it with a wet rag and knock it out. The same way you can use if you do not know how to wash the fur collar.
  • To give the fur a glossy sheen, it is necessary to wipe it with a cloth previously moistened with acetic extract. The same effect can be achieved if the fur garment is periodically moistened with glycerin.
  • Felted fur is easy enough to return the original condition and appearance. It should only rub the fur alcohol, smooth, and then comb the growth of villi.

During the cleaning of fur it is necessary to remember the safety rules when working with toxic and strongly smelling substances, such as gasoline, ammonia and vinegar. All work should be carried out only in a well-ventilated area away from heaters and flammable materials. It is also forbidden to smoke during cleaning of fur products and to be near a smoking person, because fur is a light-fire material that ignites from the slightest spark in a fraction of a second.
