How to choose the right flavored tea

Gourmets are sure that natural quality tea is good in itself. It is a self-sufficient product that does not require any flavoring. But why then do many prefer flavored tea?

Let's see what this category of teas represents.

What are the flavors?

To give piquancy to a regular tea, a new taste and aroma, manufacturers use various aromatic additives.

They are divided into two types:

  • Synthetic, representing chemical preservatives. Do not even say that this is the cheapest way to transform tea. And as a basis (the tea itself), as a rule, a rather low-grade initial product is used.
  • Natural, which include essential oils, spices, herbs, pieces of fruit and flowers.

Ways of aromatization

Tea belongs to the excellent sorbents, because it absorbs odors very quickly and retains them for a long time. On this basis, three methods of aromatization are based.

  1. The so-called contact aromatization. This is the most time-consuming, expensive, but also the most refined method. Spices and herbs are added to flavored tea at the drying stage. After the end of this process, the supplements are separated from the tea leaves, which further allows to preserve the natural aroma and taste of the tea, giving it only a delicate smell. Tea absorbs in itself exactly as much as it can absorb, without overloading with extraneous aroma.
  2. Treatment of tea with essential oils and extracts. This method is a bit simpler and does not differ as exquisitely as the previous one, but it has its advantages. With the right proportions in the ratio of tea extract, it takes its rich variety of assortment.
  3. Natural supplements. Pieces of fruit and flowers are combined with tea at the time of packaging. The result is a very beautiful mixture. But when brewed, flavored tea with such ingredients practically loses its real taste and smell, yielding these qualities to flavors. Moreover, preservatives are used in these teas to prevent additives from deterioration.

Even those who are skeptical of such teas can not but admit that among them there are very famous and revered throughout the world.
