How to check ping in Windows system

If you have a computer connected to the global Internet, you just need to know how to test the ping. This is especially true for fans of online battles, where even a second delay often means the death of a character. It does not matter how the connection is made: on the newest fiber-optic lines, the usual copper wires or through radio frequencies (3G modems).

To understand the importance of ping, we'll figure out what it is. The work of the Internet is based on the exchange of data packets. For example, a user launches a browser, opens a search engine window, and dials a "how to check ping" query. After clicking on the confirmation button, the network interface of the computer creates a specific bit sequence, according to the standard that generates block-packets that are transmitted to the provider's server. The latter, in turn, in one way or another (wire, satellite, radio) transmits them further to the search engine servers . However, this transfer is not direct, but through a chain of other intermediate servers, i.e. From node to node. If you consider that each of them processes not only the query "how to check ping", but also data packets from other users of the Network, then it becomes clear that there are certain delays in data transfer to the target target server (resource). In addition, the response packets, in turn, make a similar path to the user's browser.

The existing mechanism for working with the Network allows you to automatically select servers with minimal load, however, even this does not guarantee the absence of delays, although to some extent optimizes the transmission. The time between the initiation of transmission of a data packet and the fact of reception is called ping. Obviously, the smaller it is, the faster the Internet works. The speed of connection in this case is unimportant, since it characterizes how quickly the request to the server will be transmitted, but the signal path length practically does not influence. Total speed is the sum of these two parameters - speed and ping.

Why would a simple user need to know how to test a ping? For example, a computer owner is faced with the issue of choosing a provider. Having checked the ping, you can choose the best (although this does not guarantee the constancy of this parameter). Sometimes the user's speed of the Network speed drops, sites slowly open, and the neighbor connected to the same provider, everything is fine. Check the ping. If it is too high, then perhaps it is worth checking the quality of the wires, the state of the connectors, since the transient resistance introduces its own delays.

No less important is checking the site for availability. If the resource does not open, then the reason may be not in it, but in the browser settings (virus actions). With the help of the system utility "ping" you can send test packages to the target site and make sure that they come. Otherwise, we can assume that the problem is with the resource itself. Ping comes to the rescue. The default settings are universal. Although they can be adjusted by specifying the keys. For example, the -n switch indicates the number of requests (the more, the more accurate the result); "-w" allows you to set the interval after which the packet will be considered lost; "-l" is the packet length from 32 bytes (standard) to 65527. You can read more about these parameters and their use on specialized resources.

To use the built-in test function of the Windows operating system, you need to create a file with the extension bat. The first line in it will be ping the site_name (for example, site), and the second one is pause. Will only execute this file and see the results. Time in milliseconds is ping (the less, the better). Here is an example of the file content:

Ping -l128-w1000 -n 30 fb.ru

Pause
