Honda Civic Type-R: keeping up with the times

The technological process does not stand still, let alone in recent years. It is not enough for manufacturers to simply produce new models, they need to surprise, interest the buyer.

No less important indicator than the functionality or manufacturability of the car is its design, as this is the first thing a potential buyer looks at. More and more people want to have not just a practical and comfortable vehicle - they want to own a car that stands out from the car stream with its bright and original design. Such a car became the Honda Civic Type-R.

Prehistory

Japanese concern Honda made an attempt to realize the wishes of the consumer by presenting in the spring of 2005 the concept of the 8th generation of the popular Honda Civic. You might think that there is nothing strange in this, as several companies at the motor shows constantly present futuristic concepts to the surprised public.

But Honda decided not to dwell on this. The Civic concept of the eighth generation has practically turned into a serial model. A very bold move, since not every automotive company can decide to launch a model with such a bold design. It turned out that all the fears were in vain: immediately after the car hit the domestic market, behind it lined up huge lines.

The standard five-door hatchback is equipped with a 1.8-liter engine, but it will be about its modification - a charged coupe Honda Civic Type-R. The car photo is a confirmation of the bold step of the Japanese manufacturer, as the exterior of the novelty is "slightly" unaccustomed to the consumer, which nevertheless made the model very popular.

Exterior

The hot version is only available in a three-door body. The car is wider than its five-door relative by 15 mm with the same wheelbase. In addition to this, the novelty received body-colored bumpers, an updated aerodynamic body kit, two trunk spoilers and 18-inch wheels. All this with the futuristic style of the model itself makes the appearance of the Honda Civic Type-R car incredibly attractive. The appearance of the novelty is much more expressive than its predecessors - insolent, sporty, even aggressive.

Interior

On the driver's seat the enthusiasm is still the same. The seat looks like a real racing bucket. In the backs of the seats are ready holes for the sports seat belts. The fact that you are inside a "civil" car, intended for public roads, resembles a soft upholstery of interior elements. In all the rest the interior is similar to the interior of the predecessor Civic, and to determine that this is Honda Civic Type-R, it is possible only for some details, first of all on the color scale. The armchairs have red inserts, and the red color dominates the salon. He also used for lighting.

The main element on the two-level instrument panel is a volumetric tachometer, marked up to 9,000 rpm (the red zone starts at 8,000 rpm). Above the tachometer there are fuel sensors, engine temperatures, a digital speedometer. Type-R is present on the instrument panel as well as on the metal nameplate next to the mechanical transmission. On the central console is located the control unit of the audio system and the on-board computer. The climate control is controlled by buttons similar to the joystick with keys located on the right under the visor of the instrument panel Honda Civic Type-R. On the left are the buttons for controlling the light and starting the engine. Insert and rotate the key in the ignition lock, but the starter is started with the help of the button.

Seats, like the steering wheel, have a lot of adjustments. "Sheepskin", trimmed with natural leather, pressed inside. But the lever of the 6-step "mechanics" is made of cold metal. Despite the sportiness of the cabin, it is very practical: you can find many niches for small items, and on the second row is spacious and comfortable. The only drawback is that it's a bit difficult to climb back, but this is the problem of all three-door hatchbacks.

Cargo area

The volume of the trunk of the Honda Civic Type-R is 485 liters in normal condition, and with the folded second row it is increased to 1352 liters. It should be noted that the shape of the luggage compartment cover limits visibility in the rear-view mirror.

Most competing firms focus on turbocharged engines, and Honda continues to improve atmospheric petrol engines. This slightly limits the possibility of tuning in the future, and significantly affects the power of the model. Despite this, a 4-cylinder gasoline unit with a capacity of 2.0 liters can rightly be called a masterpiece of mechanical engineering, since an engine with such a modest volume is capable of issuing 201 "horses". Honda engineers tried to make it as responsive as possible, which they managed to achieve by five with a plus.

Cost

High cost is the problem of the Honda Civic Type-R. The price of the car at official dealers starts from a mark in 37 800 dollars. For example, the Focus ST model, which is one of the main competitors of the Japanese hatchback, costs 8 thousand cheaper. This applies to other competitors. But if you install the same functions on these cars that are available on the Honda Civic Type-R, then they will become more expensive than the last.
