Holosiivskyi Park in Kiev: sightseeing, photos

Kiev is famous for its parks, squares, shady avenues. He is considered one of the greenest cities. Some of the cultural plantations are not only recreation areas in the shade of trees, but also real monuments of antiquity. Such is the Holosiivsky park. Kiev honors the traditions of its ancestors and tries to preserve their heritage.

History of the park

The first mention of the park dates from the middle of the 17th century. In those days, the lands in the Goloseevo tract, covered with forests, ravines and vast wastelands, belonged to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The initiative to create a man-made park belonged to the archpriest Laurus Peter Mogile.

Years passed, and plantings, ponds and avenues ennobled with careful hands merged with the neighboring forest and formed one whole. Now it is difficult to say where the first park was.

There were years of desolation, and residents of the surrounding areas used to call the green massif forest. Paths along the shady ravines, ducks and swans nestled in the lakes, mushroom pickers in the autumn echoed on the hills.

The city grew, and the former uninhabited suburb turned into one of the central regions with developed infrastructure. Kievans as the air needed a park for walking, spending leisure on weekends. In the late fifties of the last century Holosiivskyi Park celebrated its second birth.

Since 2007, the refined part of the forest has been granted the status of the Maxim Rylsky National Natural Park.

Park in our days

The area of the cultural zone is inferior to the forest by more than five times. And even so, the park is considered one of the largest in the city.

The landscape was formed around the Orekhovat valley, where a cascade of four ponds is located. This is a favorite place of rest for the townspeople. On the perimeter of water bodies on weekends it is difficult to find a free bench or pergola. The beaches were chosen by fishermen, and on the water smoothly slip boats, to which local ducks and swans have long been neglected.

The basis of green plantations is poplar, willow, maple and acacia. In the old part of the forest zone there are centuries-old trees - hornbeams and oaks. Alleys are formed from juniper and thuja. Platans on glades attract the attention of tourists with their majestic view.

It is not uncommon to see squirrels galloping along trees and lawns. Mushroom pickers maintain that the little-visited part of the park is populated with hedgehogs, hares, and snakes. And some dozen years ago you could meet a fox or even a wild boar.

Now Holosiivsky Park can not boast an abundance of living creatures, but on its footpaths are full of fans of running, and special bicycle routes laid on the hills, attract many cyclists-extreme.

The lower alleys are so sheltered by the shadow of the trees that even in the heat there is cool. This is especially attractive for young mothers with babies and elderly people.

How to get there? Main objects

It's hard to believe that in the city, surrounded on all sides by residential buildings, is a huge (more than 900 hectares) forest massif, which includes the Holosiivsky Park. How to get to this oasis of clean air?

From the central areas of the city the road will take no more than ten minutes by car. For owners of personal transport, the administration equipped a parking lot near the cafe "Barracuda".

On the perimeter of the park there are two metro stations - Goloseyskaya and Exhibition Center. It is very convenient for those wishing to spend a weekend in nature, but living in remote areas of the city.

You can also get by public transport from the metro station "Lybedskaya". Trolleybuses No. 2 and 11 will be taken directly to the main entrance to the park.

The main attraction of the park is a monument to the Ukrainian poet Rylsky, installed opposite the central entrance to the territory. Closer to the northern border is a museum with an exposition dedicated to the activities and works of the poet.

Noteworthy are the stele in honor of the defense of Kiev at the beginning of the Patriotic War and a memorial to the deceased, among whom, in addition to military personnel, there are students and teachers of Kiev universities. These monuments still attract the views of holidaymakers, and not only on holidays. Teachers of schools in Kiev express gratitude to the administration of the district and the city for the preservation of cultural heritage, which makes it possible to demonstrate vivid examples of masculinity and patriotism to the young generation.

For hundreds of years, Christian believers have been attracted to the true believers, with whom the Holosiivsky Park is proud: the monastery, the Kitaevskaya Desert, the tombs and relics of the local saints, and fonts for healthful dipping.

This place, if I may say so, is marked by divine providence. The proof is that during the Patriotic War the second line of defense of Kiev passed through the desert territory, and everything was destroyed, except for the monastic cemetery where the Monk Alexy Holosiivsky is buried.

The monastery and the deserts not once came to desolation and were reborn again. The last flowering began in the nineties of the last century. Today you can visit the service in the temple, bow to the holy saints of these places, ask for help from Mother Alipia.

There are many stories connected with this woman. It was possible to attribute them to the category of fairy tales and legends, if it were not for the events taking place at the end of the 20th century, and the thousands of eyewitnesses helped by the hermit.

It is also surprising that Alipia lived all year round in the hollow of a tree outside the gates of the desert. She ate alms and prayed for the salvation of all those who applied to her for help. Now the hermit's body rests in the temple of the Holosiivsky monastery, and everyone can come and bow to her.

Local residents claim that even after the death of this amazing woman miracles happen. Diseases recede, long-awaited children are born, family problems are solved ...
