History of Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace can be called not only the main attraction, but also a symbol of Great Britain. This is the central headquarters of the monarchy, the official residence of the rulers and the main state palace, in which the most significant events take place, official receptions. The history of Buckingham Palace is very interesting: the construction of the state value it was made by Queen Victoria, this significant event took place in 1837.

It all began with the Duke of Buckingham, who received from Queen Anne land near St. James and Green Park and acquired a mansion there. Later, in 1762, specially for his wife Charlotte George III bought this house and called it Buckingham House. The idea to turn a building into a magnificent palace came to the head of King George IV, who was born in it. The monarch ascended to the throne and in 1820 immediately got on the issue of arrangement: the repair of Buckingham Palace was entrusted to the architects Edward Blore and John Nash.

In the XIX century, the main building was completed with buildings, so soon formed a kind of square, inside which housed a huge courtyard. In transferring to modern money, more than 150,000 euros were spent on all this splendor, and at that time it was a considerable amount. Not all agreed that Buckingham Palace deserves such high costs. Photos of the buildings are amazing with their greatness, and it's not for nothing that millions of tourists come to London every year to admire its splendor.

The royal residence of the palace was during the reign of Queen Victoria, who always stressed that while staying in the building, she is in high spirits. The Queen did not pay attention to the dilapidated apartments, the malfunctioning of bells, the smell of mold and sewerage. Despite the fact that in 1861 Victoria moved to Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace remained the true residence of the monarchs.

Excursions are held daily for two months - in August and September, when the royal couple leaves the building. Most of the apartments are open for visiting, and the palace itself is guarded by the Court Division. From April to August, you can watch the ceremony of changing the guard every day, and in the autumn and winter - only when the weather is fine. The wealth of interior decoration of Buckingham Palace is amazing. Here you can see the paintings of Rubens, Rembrandt, Canaletto and other masters, exquisite furniture made not only in England, but also in France. There is porcelain, which was used by Napoleon, as well as a magnificent sculptural gallery, the collection of which was assembled by George IV.

Today, for concerts, diplomatic receptions and important events, the Ballroom, built on the orders of Queen Victoria in 1853, is used. Prior to this, there was no such room, containing so many people and suitable for lush festivities. Very much for Buckingham Palace made Queen Victoria, so in her honor in front of the building was built a statue of Victory with the symbolic inscription "Mercy, truth and justice."
