High atmospheric pressure - an excuse for panic attacks?

The number of meteosensitive people is growing all the time. The height of the mercury column now predicts how the day will pass, what kind of mood and well-being the person will have. But in fact it was initially believed that atmospheric pressure affects only the weather. Let's see what a low and high atmospheric pressure is, and whether it can really affect our life so much.

What is atmospheric pressure

If we take the general definition, this is a value that shows the force with which the air column presses, starting from the upper boundary of the atmospheric layer, on the terrestrial or water surface.

Above 762 mm of mercury is a high atmospheric pressure, and below 758 mm, respectively, a low pressure. The maximum pressure at sea level is fixed at 808.7 mm and the minimum pressure at 684 mm.

On what the atmospheric pressure depends

First of all, the pressure changes due to uneven heating of air above the earth's surface. The features of landscape zones, the rotation of the Earth, the difference in heat capacity and the reflecting abilities of the water and the earth's surface - all this has an impact in this case. As a result, cyclones and anticyclones are formed, which form the weather.

Cyclones are relatively fast moving vortices with reduced atmospheric pressure. In the summer they bring rain and coolness, in the winter - snow and thaw, but always - strong winds and cloudy weather.

Anticyclones are slowly moving areas, which are characterized by high atmospheric pressure. In summer they create hot, windless weather, and in winter - frosty and clear.

On a planetary scale, the atmospheric pressure varies uniformly from the equator to the poles. The areas of the lowest pressure are the equatorial region and 60-65 degrees south and north latitude. And the highest is 30-35 degrees of latitude and both poles. In addition, over the cold continents, each winter there is a stable high atmospheric pressure.

Atmospheric pressure also varies with the time of day. Its peaks occur at 9-10 hours and 21-22 hours, and recessions occur at 3-4 in the morning and 15-16 hours.

Influence of high atmospheric pressure on well-being

Sharp changes in atmospheric pressure lead to a deterioration in the health of meteosensitive people. High atmospheric pressure can bring such symptoms:

  • Decreased heart rate ;
  • Lowering of blood pressure;
  • Rarer and deeper breathing;
  • Slight decrease in hearing and smell;
  • Muffled voice.

Risk group with increasing atmospheric pressure

First of all, elderly people and chronic patients who suffer from cardiac and vascular problems, unstable arterial pressure enter the risk group .

They may have chest pains, jumps in blood pressure, exacerbation of stenocardia, migraine, tachycardia.

What will help with high atmospheric pressure

If weather forecasters predict an anticyclone and an increase in pressure, then meteosensitive people should be prepared in advance - try to reduce physical exertion and consult a doctor to appoint special medicines.

High atmospheric pressure very often entails severe frosts or prolonged heat. And the temperature of the air affects the health several times stronger than the pressure. Therefore, it is better to take care of yourself and try not to go out again to the street, while the apartment should have a comfortable temperature.

In any case, you do not need to panic so that the effect of auto-suggestion does not turn out. Interestingly, people using elevators undergo a change in atmospheric pressure several times a day, but their health does not suffer from this simply because the elevator is a familiar phenomenon. Take care of yourself!
