Herbicides of continuous action

Herbicides of continuous action, or, as they are also called, non-selective, affect all the vegetation that exists on the field. Such herbicides penetrate the plant through a leafy green surface. These substances are applied in the event that there are no cultivated plants on the field, that is, either in pairs, or before sowing, or after harvesting. However, the latest developments have allowed the use of a herbicide of continuous action in the same way as selective herbicides. This became possible due to the cultivation of genetically modified crops, such as sugar beets, potatoes, soybeans. These cultures have a special resistance gene to some herbicides that do not have negative effects on plants.

There are several ways to use these substances, which directly depend on the culture. On annual crops, pre - sowing treatment of the field can be carried out . This is done in order to prevent the appearance of weed plants and reduce the number of mechanical treatments. Also, one can perform early treatment after sowing before the plant has risen. For the desiccation of weeds and culture, pre-harvesting is carried out. To suppress perennial weeds, we need to post-harvest.

On perennial crops, that is, in orchards, vineyards, processing is carried out between trees in such a way that herbicides of continuous action do not fall on cultivated plants. This is done to prevent the appearance of weeds, to retain moisture and to reduce the number of cultivations. This treatment prevents soil erosion, which is caused by frequent treatments.

The herbicides of continuous action are subdivided according to the methods of application and the signs of action on plants in 3 groups: contact action, systemic action and which affect the root system and germinating seeds.

To contact herbicides are such drugs that affect the stems and leaves of weeds at direct contact with the drug. Such herbicides differ in that they quickly act on weeds and are resistant to rain. Upon contact with the substance, the normal processes of the weed are violated, and it perishes. However, there is a drawback - quite often, new shoots can grow.

Systemic herbicides act differently from weeds. The active substance gradually moves from the place of contact with the surface of the weed to the place of plant growth, causing rapid dying out. Such substances perfectly compete with perennial weeds, which have a strong root system, but they are much slower absorbed and move along the plant.

The third group includes herbicides of continuous action, which are intended for complete destruction of germinating seeds and plant roots. Usually herbicides are introduced into the kidney before the culture is planted, at different periods of vegetation.

Effective herbicides of continuous action are "Roundup", "Alaz", "Tornado", "Glysol". In all countries of the world, Roundup is widely used. It effectively fights with both annuals and perennial weeds, and destroys both underground and terrestrial parts. In addition, this substance is devoid of soil activity, this means that any culture can be sown after applying the drug. Roundup is one of the safest herbicides. It does not pose a threat to the environment or to humans, if properly applied. The drug, which is applied on the surface of shoots and leaves, is absorbed for six hours, and transferred to the roots and other parts of the weeds after about 7 days. The first signs of exposure are expressed in the yellowing and wilting of plants. This effect is noticeable after 10 days, and completely the plants die within three weeks after treatment with the drug.
