Hepatoprotector "Karsil" - contraindications, effect, expected effect
"Karsil" contains a dry extract of the fruit of the medicinal plant Milk thistle. The active substance in it is silymarin (the international name is "silibinin"). It turns toxic free radicals in the liver into compounds that do not harm its cells, improves microcirculation in it, protects it from the effects of various negative factors, and has a counter-toxic effect. Thanks to the reception of this drug, the cells of the liver are renewed, which leads to an improvement in the overall well-being of the patient. "Karsil", contraindications to which are practically absent, improves appetite and digestion of food and eliminates a significant part of painful and unpleasant symptoms caused by insufficient functioning of the liver. After its administration in patients, there is an improvement in laboratory parameters related to liver function, including the level of bilirubin.
As noted in the instructions, treatment with this drug will bear fruit only if the rules of a healthy lifestyle, in particular, a certain diet, are observed. Use during the course of treatment of alcohol will negate its entire useful effect - in this case there is no point in taking "Karsil". Contraindications to its reception are minimal, but they are still available: without the doctor's recommendation, you should not take "Karsil" to those who suffer from various hormonal disorders - the drug may have an estrogen-like effect. Consult with a specialist follows with endometriosis of the uterus, myoma, as well as carcinomas.
"Karsil" is available in tablets containing 22.5 mg of silymarin. There is also a drug "Karsil forte" - capsules of 90 mg. Tablets are taken by adults and children over 12 years old for 1-2 pieces, three times a day. They are swallowed wholly and abundantly washed down with water. In difficult cases this dose can be doubled. Children from 5 to 12 years of age are prescribed 3 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. This dose is distributed 2-3 times. "Karsil forte" is taken by adults and children from 12 years - 2-3 times a day, one capsule. The duration of treatment is determined only by the doctor, on average, it is about 3 months.
Side effects of the drug are rare. They, as a rule, arise in case of hypersensitivity to its components (as auxiliary substances "Karsil" contains, in particular, sucrose and wheat starch). In this case, nausea and diarrhea, itching and skin rashes are possible. If the patient has some disturbances in the vestibular apparatus, they may be aggravated by the use of the drug Karsil. The description-instruction accompanying this medication indicates that such cases are extremely rare, but they still should not be discounted. These symptoms can be a serious danger for a patient who spends a lot of time driving, so drivers should carefully take the drug "Karsil". Contraindications to it, listed in the instructions, do not contain a ban on the management of vehicles, but it is desirable, if possible, to restrict persons with vestibular disorders driving at the wheel.
In case of side effects, the drug should be discontinued. After that, they will soon disappear by themselves. At an accidental overdose of "Karsila" you need to take activated charcoal and, if possible, purify the stomach, and also seek medical help.
In the vast majority of cases, "Karsil" is well tolerated by both adults and children. However, even if you do not get scared by side effects sometimes noticed when taking the drug "Karsil", it is still worth consulting with a specialist. This drug can strengthen or, conversely, reduce the effectiveness of other drugs, which should be taken into account in its appointment.
Data on the effect of the drug on the body of the pregnant woman and the fetus are absent. Therefore to apply or not during pregnancy "Karsil", contraindications to which are few, it is necessary to solve individually.
