The enthusiasm for terrariums has recently become so widespread that they, like their inhabitants, are sold in all large and small pet stores, and various clubs of fans of such creatures are created in large cities everywhere.

The terrarium, inhabited by very specific livestock, can be found even in urban apartments. But the domestic iguana among all its other inhabitants enjoys the greatest popularity and the well-deserved love of their masters.

The green iguana in our conditions is a real exotic! In nature, the iguana lives in Central and South America, in a tropical climate, easily moving through trees on which they live near rivers. The iguana reaches two meters in length, and its weight can be up to five kilograms. This dragon is distinguished by a powerful tail and sharp claws. The main ornament of the lizard is a characteristic dorsal crest, which extends from the occiput to the middle of the tail. On the iguana's throat there is a leather bag, which the lizard can inflate - in order to intimidate the enemy. Young iguanas are green, but with age, iguanas darken.

The iguana at home lives fifteen years or more. The content of domestic dragons is not a simple matter. Often they live only up to half their lives and die, which is due to improper feeding and violation of the temperature regime, so before you buy a "dragon" into the house, you need to study the relevant literature and assess their ability to maintain this pet.

And it will take quite a lot of time and money. Buy a young iguana is best in specialized clubs of reptile lovers who are engaged in iguanas, or in nurseries. In the club or kennel, not only will help pick up a healthy pet, but also give advice on keeping the lizard.

You can buy an iguana in a pet store, but in that case, you need to carefully examine several "candidates" to choose the best. A healthy lizard is calm, her skin is clean, her eyes are without excretions, a healthy iguana has a fat tail, she is not afraid of her hands. Home iguana at the age of three months reaches eighteen centimeters in length - not counting the tail.

An iguana at home is usually kept in the terrarium. The dwelling for the baby needs to be prepared in advance. The most convenient dwelling for a young dragon will be a glass terrarium to two hundred liters in volume. About a year later the dwelling of the green pet should be replaced by a larger one, with a capacity of up to five hundred liters. An adult iguana needs a spacious wooden enclosure with a glass front wall or completely glass, which is also quite acceptable. Just remember that immediately in a large terrarium to plant a small dragon should not be.

For heating, usually use incandescent lamps of different power - for day and night heating. And for lighting it is necessary to use lamps with ultraviolet radiation, which need to be changed every six months. The fact is that without UV radiation, home iguanas can not absorb vitamin D and calcium, without which the normal life of a lizard is simply impossible.

Home iguanas are cold-blooded creatures, and in nature regulate body temperature simply in the sun. Normal digestion of food is possible only at a sufficient temperature, which is why before meals, they usually properly warm up in the sun. Therefore, in order for the iguana to develop normally at home, it is necessary that the lizard has a special place for warming up. It can be any snag that can be placed directly under the mirror lamp for warming up. At this point, the temperature should reach 35 degrees, so that the iguana can warm up there well.

Do not forget that home iguanas need and in a cool place. High humidity is also one of the conditions under which an iguana at home can develop well. For this, a couple of times a day you need to spray the terrarium with water or use special devices for moisturizing. Temperature and humidity are just the conditions that must be observed.

In nature, iguanas live on trees, so in the terrarium you need to place several convenient snags. It is compulsory to place a special bathing tank in the terrarium. Home iguanas love water, and in nature live near rivers. The iguana at home will long please their owners with their healthy and shiny appearance when all conditions are met.
