Do cats sweat? How to prevent overheating of your pet.

Pets for many people are equal members of the family. Taking a bird, cat, dog or some other pet in your house, we must take care of it, feed it properly, water it, and monitor its health. As a rule, owners of animals periodically have various kinds of questions, such as, for example: "Do cats and dogs sweat," "How to make a diet for the sphinx correctly," "Do additional vitamins for guinea pig?" And others. And this is natural, since we must have information about our pets to look after them properly.

A cat is a human friend

A cat in the house is a wonderful soothing for the whole family. Scientists have already proved that these fluffy (and not so) creatures have the ability to treat their hosts - to set the heart rate, lower blood pressure, relieve stress and much more. We, in turn, should also give their friends enough attention and help them in difficult times. To provide your pet with adequate nutrition, to monitor compliance with its drinking regime and hygiene is our direct duty.

In addition, we still need to know the features of the functioning of his body, in order to prevent health problems. For example, we will not be prevented from knowing whether the cats are sweating to understand how they are thermoregulating. Know these features of the body is necessary in order to prevent overheating of our pet in particularly hot weather.

Do cats sweat

The allocation of sweat is one of the mechanisms of thermoregulation. Cats sweat, however in a different way, not as people. The number of sweat glands they have limited, they are located mainly on the pads of the paws, as well as around the anus and nipples. Does the cat sweat underarms? No, there are no sweat glands in this area of the body.

In dogs, for example, as well as in cats, paws sweat, but the main mechanism of thermoregulation in them is the evaporation of saliva through the tongue sticking out. Cats, like dogs, can sometimes stick out their tongue when they are hot. However, if the dog is the norm, in cats this phenomenon can signal other problems not related to heat (up to heart failure). If, however, the cause of the tongue stuck out in the cat is the high temperature of the air, then you need to know that the cat pops out the tongue when it is already on the verge of a heat stroke.

Whether the cats of the Sphynx breed

This breed of cats is an exception to the rules. The lack of wool in the sphinx breeds its own characteristics of the body. These cats are sweating all over the body, especially it is noticeable in completely naked individuals. Some owners of sphinxes notice that after their pets there may be a trace on the surface on which they like to spend time. These cats require special care, they need periodic bathing or wiping the body with wet napkins.

How strongly sweats the sphinx - depends on the individual characteristics of the body and the state of health. Some representatives of this breed sweat a little. But it also happens that the abundant secretion of sweat in the Sphinx is a real problem for the owners, as brown spots of sweat on furniture and other surfaces create a certain discomfort.

Thus, the answer to the question "Is the perspiration in the cats of the Sphynx breed?" The answer is affirmative. If sweat is allocated too much - you need to contact the veterinarian, maybe your pet has health problems.

How cats are cooled

A good help in thermoregulation of cats is its wool cover. Then swelling, then pressing the wool, the animal ventilates and cools the surface of the skin. In addition, in hot weather, cats instinctively look for the coolest place in the house. They can become a tile, marble surface, sink or bathroom - i.e. Those surfaces that do not heat up strongly.

Washing is another way to cool down for cats. Evaporation of saliva from the body surface allows the cat to lower the temperature. The use of cool water also helps the animal to transfer heat more easily.

How to prevent overheating in cats

If cats sweat, we have already found out. Sweat in them is not the main mechanism of body regulation, as in humans. But how can we prevent overheating of the animal, because this is a very dangerous condition that can even lead to death? When the air temperature is abnormally high, and you notice the signs of overheating in the cat, with which she can not cope herself, you need to help her:

- Give her food cool temperatures, perhaps even pieces of frozen meat;

- put next to the cat a basin with cool water, maybe she will want to cool by means of water procedures;

- Do not expel the animal from the bathroom, if it is easier for her to tolerate heat;

- provide the cat access to cool drinking water to quench your thirst;

- In extreme cases, when the cat is very bad, she stuck out her tongue and breathes heavily - wrap it in a cool wet towel and contact the veterinarian.
